Looks awesome mate!
What do you think to it anyway? I found the mk4 to be much comfier than the mk3 but the handling nowhere near as sharp.
But yeah, looks real clean!
Looks great Dom :afro:
Don't see many with super low miles.
Nice motor Dom looks spotless and as said very low milage any reason you went for a 4 door or just not fussed?

i'll be keeping an eye on this one dom, great low mileage find. lows and wheels and your own touch and i'm sure it'll be
I like the wheels on these. I'd keep em on.
Are the wheels BBS? thought they were sure ive seen a set the same as these with a nice stretch, spaced out and in white they looked really good and different to the norm..

Very nice mate, it's going to look very similar parked up next to mine at the RR in October. You shoulda bought mine off me
Lol, it's still up for sale. Might have some parts you could have in the future if you're looking to upgrade as well mate. Very nice car though :afro:

Haven't posted on this yet, but have been following! Look like a nice find! I hope you can make it look as good and factory as you did with the Mk3.
I have a lot of faith in you that you can transform this, don't let me down!
Think i need to do some research on detailing so i can get my panels looking as sweet as yours!!
dom its looking really good now itspolished. Am awaiting what it will look like on the rr day
Looks real nice mate, same as my dads. but his has the leathers and stuff in it, polishes up nice that black dont it, real nice sparkle in the paint
deffo need to lower mk4's. they are more boat like than the mk3's (iv had 2 mk4's)
Look forward to what you do with it, a great base to start on

Why do you do this to me Shaun?
That looks awesome, but the mk4 is supposed to be slightly more practical than the mk3 was, getting it looking that good means air. Air means a lot of money :undecided:
I tell you what....if you buy my mk3 for £4k then i'll get my mk4 looking better than that
Interesting place to take a photo... hey why are you going to ignore me anyway, what have I done that's so wrong?
I'm ignoring you because I bought this car with the intention of not modding it very much and you keep putting evil ideas into my mind

Mods will happen quicker when I pull my finger out and try to shift the mk3

It's right outside the house, where the car is parked atm

Bloody hell mate, things move quick with you! Wish I had money!
That was a good price for the Anni valance :afro:
Need a 007p!
Good stuff. Youll also need a valence on the front to match the rear? Have you bought a diesel valence or petrol one?
As above, need a front valance too
also +1 on the 007 - its a must
Looks cleaner without exhaust.
Looks cleaner without exhaust.
It does indeed, i'm considering removing the golf & gti badges also.
I'll be ordering either a mk5 or polo rear wiper & a sharan badge to further tidy up the rear end...oh and a smaller aerial
I would say leave the badges on.
Thay look plain without them, following Richw's yesterday on the motorway got me thinking how much better they look with the badges on.
Should be some more pics coming soon then.

Save your dosh and delete the rear wiper!
Yup, I agree. Always had hatchbacks except for my Saab. Hated it when it was raining and your trying to reverse out of a parking space. Scene points but not worth in imo due to being so impracticle.

Yeah but it's hard to judge distances with wing mirrors

Well it is the same size grommet for a mk3 and my Octavia, I believe a mk4 is the same size.
If you stuck I have a few spare could always post one to you.

I'm not sure about the tbh Rhyso, looks a little too plain for me :undecided:
Oooh, is that a Mk5 boot release badge thingy??
It would appear that the car has previously had a G60 flywheel & VR6 clutch fitted. I found an invoice earlier for:
'Uprated/modified clutch and flywheel set - £590.39'
The clutch is considerably lighter than the clutch on my Mk3, I remember speaking to Wayne a while ago when I was first looking at Mk4's and he told me the clutch should be heavier than the Mk3. This would suggest the above set up has been fitted....anyone else car to confirm/deny this?
Obviously I know that there is no real way of knowing without actually looking, which I have no intention of doing
Clutch on the GTI 1.8T and GT TDI's was a lot lighter than ones on my old mk3 engine
and the one on my S3 engine is suoer light too, hydraulic you see  your 8v wont have had that

my standerd clutch was heavy.. now with vr6 clutch/g60 flywheel its much lighter plus revs alot higher through gear changes if ya get me
Wheres the mk3 plate gone? I think you should keep both!!
Looks good dom. Just needs droppim
Smoked side repeaters?
Looking good. Swap the alloys from the MK3.
Prefer a nice heavy clutch.
You is gonna love it blaaaaaaaad!!! Haven't read any of the thread yet but when is it getting remapped?
Get the VW badge removed too! Then it will look better

Im going to have to disagree there. I dont like debadging.
I would leave the badges on, no rear wiper and the valance looks really good.
looks loads cleaner mate
anni rear valence is my next purchase
with badges i took the GOLF 1 off and left the GTI just need sharen badge now
they can get you stuff from germany in a few days so wouldnt worry
Well i say that, but i do know the lads in my dealership so who knows maybe they just sorted me out in the past :undecided:
Looks better, I think debadge it bar the vw badge now i've seen it. :lipsrsealed:
Keep the VW and GTI badges, loose the golf badge imo  Shaving both side badges looks cool IF the hatch handle is shaved too. That handle sticks out like a sore thumb with the badges gone
Also, lower it
You make it sound like you didn't do the mk3 properly! I know what you mean though.
With a new toy there's always lots of little things to be getting on with which you seem to be doing. Especially while you save for your airide.

 I stuck cheap suspension on the Mk3 and refurbed the wheels myself which is what I meant by that. The Mk4 will get better suspension (not air), arb's etc which won't be cheap.
All the little bits add up pretty quickly though, £20 here, £30 there and suddenly your talking a few hundred

Yeah i know what you mean.. I hate to think how much i've spent in 10s and 20s!
Damn this means I've done none of my car properly!
edited my poor english.
Nah i'm kidding... I'm pretty happy with what i've done, in many respects proud comes to mind. I hope to get the body in a better looking state by VW action.
Will your mk3 funds when they come be free to spend on the mk4 or are they tied up?

Yup, VW badge is definitely staying but will be replaced for a smaller Sharan version

Great results bet shes a flyer now  will you need any upgrades now youve gained that much bhp..?
It's a lot of fun to drive now
Anyway, I played a game of how much Ikea furniture/crap can you fit into the back of a Mk4 earlier. This little lot has put an end to any more mods in the near future

Well re-sealing the vents did not solve the problem, stripped the rear out again this evening and got the pressure washer on it. Water is p!ssing in through the boot seal along the bottom of the boot, especially the n/s. It looks like the back panel is sitting too far into the boot so the seal isn't being made correctly when the boot is closed
Going to take a sledgehammer to it on Sunday to see if I can knock it back out, got a panel beater mate coming over to help out so hopefully problem will be solved soon
My friends 1.8T sounds like that, but i don't really like him so haven't looked into it :D hopefully isn't a massive fix :)
Hard to tell from video but does not sound right, how does it drive.

On the whole it drives ok, idle can be slightly erratic though and power can often surge between 2-3k rpm on half throttle :undecided:

Absolutely mint, not seen many silver 3rd 16v's around. He's got an ABF lump which he's sticking in it over the winter and plans to put a 1.8T in it next year....which reminds me...PM heading your way in a min!
top work  are you putting new rims on this one ?

Yup, eventually! Once the rest of the outside is how I want it, I'll sort the suspension and then the wheels. They're quite a long way down the list of jobs though

Car looks really clean Dom good job on the spoiler and the carbon bits I done my heater control panel and it turned out well but I cant detach the other bits you have done on yours round the stero etc.I was having second thoughts after I bought my mk4 as ive got loads to do to it but after using it everyday its a better car than my mk3 and glad i made the move and it nice to buy a car without any rust issues lol cars looking good though dom
Yeah my surrounds that is just plain black and you cant do anything with it as in change it I think its standard in Gt tdis as my dads isthe same but he has just stuck a Anni set on his.I think with mine as its just a standard car it makes me feel ive got shed loads to do but really compared to what ive done to my mk3 its not that much really.Ive started buying small bits mainly tatty trim bits as I cant stand scabby trim in a car  I think yours looks a great base and stick with it and it will come good soon enough.Whats it like now on fuel after the remap as a few people ive spoken to reakon the 20vt after a remap drinks?

Around town I'm seeing around 25mpg, on a mixed run around 30mpg and on a good a-road run around 35mpg - that's driving pretty sensibly though. If I put my foot down those figures drop pretty rapidly....it's worth it though

Nope, not bad at all! Strangely those figures are slightly less when running super unleaded :undecided:
Gutted mate only just put it on aswell  I would bet £100 the insurance conpany wouldnt even know thats a different valence and neither would many people its not like its something that really stands out.I would ask the guy or company you gonna pay if not ill put a claim in asap get it sorted.

Yeah but would they replace it with another votex one? This ones all cracked now
if it goes to a garage for repair, they will just take off the valance whats on it and replace with the same, they will just take the part number on the valance, how are the insurance company not to know it was factory fitted as an extra, its not like your running some stupid max power item that looks stupid

Will it have a VW part no.?
If your claiming of the other parties insurance you can also take your car to which ever garage you like I did this and had my car repaired by a friend who fitted what parts I wanted which at the time was a de badged grill clear indicators and some extra paint work the car was fixed and the insurance company only looked at the car once and they wasnt intrested where the parts came from and if there genuine etc they just pay for the job to be done.

Yup, cheers for that mate
Taking it over to see jonny tomorrow to get a quote, insurers just need quotes to approve & I can go to a garage of my choice
Proper update tomorrow when I get internet access back.
Chin up mate, you had me worried when I was accident - thats a battle scar
jonny sort u out mate ?
Went to see Jonny earlier, needs new sump, gearbox mounts, front valance, both plastic under trays, gearbox is leaking oil & lots of underseal is missing :undecided:
Getting a courtesy car delivered tomorrow & mine is going in to be fixed.

just been at the garage... insurance are sending somebody out to the car. possible it could be written off
jonny says it will be up to him in the end so all should be good, the underseal has all been damaged and lots of parts need to be removed to correctly re do this aparently.. which is a big job
Doubtfull it will get written off tbh

so is it getting repaired then mate?
Just spoke to Ben, they're waiting on the insurers assessor to come out still. Should be by the end of the week.
It's doubtful it will be written off but there is always a small chance, assuming it isn't a write off then a couple of extra parts will be sprayed & added when the repairs are done
Any more news Dom
Tight baaarsterds regarding the zaust but good new otherwise matey, should have it back for the RR day then
That's good news then, tell the missus that it was the suspension at fault so you think you need to get coilovers. Then when she agrees get some wheels to compliment them
jonny is back now mate spoke to him yesterday

Good news!!
I know a few purchases :lipsrsealed:
So I got a nice phone call today saying that the car will be ready to collect tomorrow
A little over 3 weeks of driving a diesel Vauxhall has almost killed me, how Chuff is surviving is beyond me
I have collected a few little and a few not so little parts over the last few weeks, I'm not going to post any pics of it until they're all fitted which will hopefully be next week sometime
Oh and I forgot just how damn quick it is
Got it back! Wahay!
They have done an amazing job, paint work is very very good, the car has been fully valeted but the best bit is the underside!
It has been fully waxoiled, stone chipped & painted, they even painted both front & rear beams, all brake lines have been coated in copper grease etc. I'll post some pics of the underside tomorrow, but you'll have to wait a few days for the rest of the car
If anyone in West Yorkshire needs a bodyshop then consider Auto Body Worx
Also have the choice of:

Would look nice with Golf and GTi badges gone and a standard Sharan badge :) friend done it on his MK4 and looks fresh!

Looks like "if brad a mk4"
Looks very tidy.
hmmm, don't know what the addition is.
Looks mint Dom hopefully have mine as mint as that in good time
side skirts!.. doh!
side skirts!.. doh!
Only a subtle mod but it adds to the overall look
Ours is debadged with the standard VW badge on it - looks good.
Ours also needs lows and wides but enjoying being able to get everywhere
looking good mate looks like they've done a good job there catch ya sat about 11ish if your still on for rr day
I'm thinking Sharan badge in silver & leave the Golf & Gti on. Being able to get most places is a bonus however the Votex splitter is deceptively low & does catch on speed bumps even at 4x4 ride height

Was only kidding about the engine... its not that bad and so what if it was.
New headlights?.... Ooooo. Bet they've got dark bits in them.
Ooo shiny.... would you be tempted to joey all the bling?

In other news I have lost 20 ponies & 30 torques and would like them back! A new maf improved driveability of the car but was not the cause, looks like a day of diagnostics at carbon in the not too distant future.

Easy job on a MK4. :P
Get some 20mm spacers on those back wheels!!
And some aero wipers for the front
Get some 20mm spacers on those back wheels!!

Aero arms cost a fortune. I paid over £100 including the two blades from VW.
The rear wiper will also be refitted for winter as I'm sick of not being able to see out of the back window
take the boot panel off the inside and you will prob find that the pipe has poped off. does it in the when the water freezes aswel, i put a tie wrap round it and it sorted it. also get your self a mk5 rear areo wiper for bowt £20 of ebay look loads better
Looks great Dom :afro:
Lookin sweet!! Pm
Me the link to where you got them!! Im getting horney lol
After recent events I've really been thinking about chopping the Mk4 in for another Mk3...however I'm going to persevere for a bit longer. I'm going to save hard for some nice coilovers & I think once the car is lower it will make a massive difference to how it looks.
I'll let the Carbon boys work their magic during half term week and hopefully it'll be back to full power. I'm expecting a boost leak tbh, so silicone hoses will be ordered if that is the diagnosis.
In the mean time the rear badge has been bugging me a little, I didn't really like it sprayed black & talking to a few others it was obviously letting the rear of the car down. I was going to upgrade to a Sharan badge but cannot justify spending £25 on a badge at the moment. I had some spare carbon wrap lying around and after speaking to Will (Billabong) at the RR day yesterday I decided to try and wrap the badge:
Really like your rear badge dom. Have been planning on doing exactly the same to mine for some time now but you beat me to it. Oh well i'll just copy! I've done my front badge but struggled to make a nice job of bending it around the ouside of the badge without creasing. Gonna have to redo. Any tips?

Am thinking about doing the same with 'Golf' & 'Gti' now :undecided:
This means the problem is likely to lie with the actuator

Is that an easy fix :undecided:
It's an easier & cheaper fix than the alternative though.
It's an easier & cheaper fix than the alternative though.
Whats that :undecided:
It's an easier & cheaper fix than the alternative though.
Whats that :undecided:
If it's not the actuator and there are definitely no boost leaks then the only other piece of hardware it could be is the turbo itself, but on a car with only 56k on the clock I'd hope it's not the case :undecided:
I think to replace the actuator involves getting to the turbo, so almost as much work as replacing one. If you take that route, would be rude not to put an updated Forge on in :)
Should have kept the Mk3! :lipsrsealed:
Just spoke to my old man on the phone about it, his advice - 'sell it'
Just spoke to my old man on the phone about it, his advice - 'sell it'
stick with it mate ull get it sorted
Nick will get to the bottom of it mate. Forge actuators are not that expensive either. plan on one for mine TBH
My 2p is on the actuator - get your ass over so we can check it - then help you fit it
Then help you advertise it and get you a 130 pd like we told you in the first place 47 times
That my friend is why I had to stop modding. It was getting me more and more in debt, and I knew if I didn't stop I wasn't going to be in a "happy place" Even ended up selling my wheels, US spec lights and entire turbo back blueflame system. Part of me regrets is massively, but at the same time I actually have a chance of clearing my debts now.
Just take it easy with the mods and there's no reason you can't enjoy the car. Mine's paid for in March, so until I can't justify running petrol over diesel any more, I'll hold onto it.
My modding (and essential repairs) cost me close to £3k before I realised what I was doing

In my thread (pg78) :embarassed: £4100 including buying it.
its a nice mk4. and am not a huge fan of them. whens the coillies coming then dom?
Got a letter from the company dealing with my claim for the 'trailer incident' this included a copy of the invoice for the Astra hire car which I had last month, I had the car for 3 weeks and the total bill for hire of the car, insurance, delivery & collection etc was a tad under £4k
The letter also included a copy of the assessors report of the car who valued it at £3.5k! Go figure that one out! £4000 of hire car + £1500 of repairs + all of the fees & charges for dealing with my claim = a hell of a lot more than the car was worth!

With hindsight I should have had it written off and bought it back :undecided:
and people wonder why insurance is so expensive :lipsrsealed:
It is madness  you can hire a car for £30 a day but the same car it an insurance company is 4x's as much.
Ive had 2 hire cars due to insurance claims and both have been more than double what the repair cost was
Well I guess somebody is making a lot of money out of it all
Bought some wheels to put them on?
Plates look good

Lets see...
- TT Wishbone Bushes - Done
- Top Mounts - Done
- Rear ARB - Done
- TT/R32 front ARB - Done

Thinking about spraying the rocker cover tomorrow....I'm assuming I'll be able to reuse the gasket?
Ok, maybe it'll have to wait! Literally got no spare cash atm and already have paint I could have used!
Ahh i see haha Red it is then
Mate DONT reuse the gasket, i changed mine, it was 30 quid ish from Audi. but while your at it do the Half moon seal too under the tensioner on the right hand side, its about a Fiver from the dealer and one of the weak points for oil leaks on 1.8T engines
did all these on mine when i do my cam cover
I also used some of the silicone VAG sealant as per service Dept guidelines at Audi
Are you going RED with the cover then ?
Ok, maybe it'll have to wait! Literally got no spare cash atm and already have paint I could have used!
Since you're painting stuff, perhaps the intake manifold in red???

I was being nosey about the PM. Was it about what was used to get the intake like he did.
It drives me mental, every car Ive had has suffered some form of damage from inconsiderate cvnts parking in close proximity of mine.
Bit far behind but the bay is looking sweet. Do like coloured hoses but has to be done right, these are looking good and like how you cut them! :lipsrsealed:
It's because you have been driving like a crazy woman!
Is that part of the bit that can be replaced with the Audi TT short(er) shifter?
was £25ish when I last bought one.

Did you know it was cracked?
the crack on the lip can be sorted, but i doubt you'll find anyone willing to weld the inside one.. last time i tried to get one like that repaired they refused because it was too risky.
what size and offset is it dom? i'll see if i can order a single new one. or if i can only order in pairs, i'll get a price on wider rears
Unlucky Dom. Have you contacted the seller about it? What does he say about it? Nice rims though, but will probs cost what you paid for the set for a new single one as I doubt there are any used singles about.
You can send a set of wheels for £27 with Paisley Freight.
It all depends on how much you paid for them.
Well id look at this way, you either soak up the loss of the return courier costs or fork out hundreds for a replacement....no brainer imo.
As you say not many people sell them on their own. Why don't you try that approach, seeing as what you paid for them i think you could easily make double

Think they'll go on eBay this weekend as it's free listings....try and make a little money which can go towards some others

i have Jamex on my mk3 BAD car... 5 years on still rocking it out!!
Dom nice work getting Collies will look bad ass
Have they changed the law so cars off the road need to be insured yet? Or are you going to have to SORN it or something?
Save some pennies on the tax, boom!
Fiat 500...........
Right, car might well be off the road for the next month or so to save some cash :undecided:
I need to check that I can cancel the insurance renewal (pretty sure there's a 2 week 'cooling off' period?)
Basically my g/f has a fiat 500 which is sitting on the drive doing nothing and she has a new job that she can walk to. I can use her car to get to/from work for a couple of months which will save me some cash in fuel and give me some time to get my insurance renewal money together and not pay for it with a credit card.
I'm still in 2 minds about it at the moment but it seems the logical thing to do at the moment :undecided:

Seems like a good plan apart from leaving yours sitting around uninsured.

cracking
Ouch!
That's not what you planned on spending the money you would be saving!
was this a planned window crack
Ouch.
I assume claiming for a new windscreen doesn't effect your no claims etc. As in, it doesn't count as a proper claim?
No , doesn't affect no claims at all
Plus it means I can no longer cancel the policy so the car is staying on the road
Cancel you insurance and worry about the windscreen later, you could sort it with the new policy

Fraud alert?
Good job on the interior bits, bad job on the mirror!...
What were you doing, beating it on with a mallet!?
Poxy little stone hit my dailys screen the other day, the chip is the size of the end of a tooth pic but has caused a crack nearly a foot and a half long!

Well it shows it does take much to crack a screen but then again your example demonstrates that you're a bit heavy handed when it comes to knobs.
Happening Sunday morning
Looks much better mate. Need to get mine lower but it's cold outside and I can be bothered when I get in from work lol
Time for some sexy rims now :)
Just to add, the ride on the JOMs is in a different league to the hot tuning ones I had on the MK3
Just for you Jamie, I took some more pictures on the way home from work
Probably just me, but the drop looks the same as if you'd only used springs?
Ahhhhhhhhh! I've got the same alloys on as you now. I need some 20mm spacers badly!
get some 20mm spacers on rear and 5 on front thats what i had on montys and still have now :D
get some 20mm spacers on rear and 5 on front thats what i had on montys and still have now :D
Yup, heading to halfrauds tomorrow after work to pick up some 5mm ones for the front. Any pics of how the rears sat with 20mm spacers?
Looks spot height wise IMO. (drivability)
hmmm... How come the wheels are rubbing on the collies?.... Camber?
How much were the 5mm ones?
Blimey you were lucky that tyre wasn't shredded from t6he rim tbh.
Woh!... how deep is that groove in the tyre!?
You are a very lucky boy there!
looks good dom i had to higher my mk3 10mm to fit the 17's on with 205/40's as the outer rim on the tyre was trying to do the same on the wing  it's now perfect with a tiny rub on full lock good progress for someone who's skint
Million times better with them spaced out! Still too high though! :lipsrsealed:
told u 20mm was fine (still space to spare )
should be good for new alloys aswell :afro:
got 8j ones and still got a lil bit of room to space out if i wanted
looking good mate,
i had 25mm spacers with 8j wheels with 215 45 18 tyres rear and same wheel tyre but 15mm spacers front.
give you a idea
god i miss my golf
Kind of a random side note but whered you find the white wheels on your mk3? and how much did u pay? thanks bro
Looking good mate.Wash your bloody car though!
Sitting nice Dom
(http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy183/codling1234/IMAG0745.jpg)U done ok out of that swap eh dom
stright swap  great deal that
Looks great..... what's going on with the tyre in the last shot, looks like half of it's going bald?
-1.5deg camber courtesy of some shims would do the trick.
-1.5deg camber courtesy of some shims would do the trick.
Good shout, whats the deal with fitting shims? They easy enough to sort?
I don't want to raise it & the spacers are staying on so I guess that's the only option

Why not go for a thinner spacer, camber shims will increase tyre wear.
Also see what your tyre fitter says but the last time I had 2 tyres I was advised to fit them to the rear, not sure why however.
All tyre companies now say fit new to the rear. This is because they're less likely to aquaplane. I personally prefer the rear end to go rather then the front but they say it's easier for the back to go in a bend then the front (which for your average driver is true) and it's easier to control apparently.
As I said, I always find it easier to control oversteer BUT if they say it's easier for the back to go then the front, I guess it's true.

Say what?
Look in my thread, that will solve your arch issue!
would look cool with a euro style front bump strip  also you thought about retro fitting some headlight washers? ment to be fairly easy
Not that big ju :smiley:st smooth the rub strip fit side indicators. Then cut the holes that are marked out at back bumperfor the washers mount the washers fit bigger bottle feeds pipes. Job dun : :smug:
looks awesome dom top job you,ve done
cant wait get mine done now seeing this but things are going slow and am not happy
All headlight washers do is spray sh!t all over the bonnet and down the wings; I've never seen them be effective at actually cleaning the headlights. That and you go through a silly amount of washer fluid
I'm debating an R32/Anni boot spoiler....thoughts?
Get one purchased, I think it will finish it off nicely
I spent about £3k on my Golf before waking up and realising I was being a complete douch spending money I oculdn't afford too  Got cold feet and sold the turbo, exhaust, cat, everything I had bought and stored up to get fitted. Partly regret it now. If I'd stuck to my guns and fitted it all I'd have some awesome power and sound coming from the car now.
Rear spoiler gets my vote. Where would you buy it from? I bought a cheap one from eBay but it was so poor I refused to fit it to the car, sold it on to come boy racer instead. I'd like a genuine one, but don't want to spend a fortune.
is that with friends discount lol
is that with friends discount lol
Yup
I can't justify spending £200 + paint on an anni one :undecided:

Oh you need to update your sig.. you don't hace lowering springs anymore!
Looking slick Dom, pretty much how the mk4 GTi SHOULD have looked from the factory
Forgot to remind you of the first meet mate too, sorry, its back on 2 weeks yesterday if you wanna make one in
Bout time u got an exhaust
Have you sorted the piping for the boost gauge now
Bout time u got an exhaust
Yup, slowly building up to a stage 2 map....just need a fmic now :grin:Have you sorted the piping for the boost gauge now
Yeah all up and running properly now

Exhaust is on and flipping loud
Not sure I'll be able to handle it tbh
I'll say it again, I love these wheels and think it looks proper awsome!
R32s are nice don't get me wrong, but not a patch on the CH's imo.
Looking very nice there Dom. All these mk4 threads are putting bad thorts in my head

Is it just the fact that they don't age well??? Not really had much to do with them, had one at work for a short while and was fine, but then it wasn't that old at the time.

Were they ever reliable?.. ie, when new were they OK but once they get on a bit they have a terrible mid-life crisis?
Thought it was going to be an a update that your selling it. Seems to be the way things are going with mk4 owners :lipsrsealed:
Glad to see your not

Nah, decided to stick with it for the moment! In the middle of buying a house at the moment which means I'll have a drive from September, as soon as I can afford to I'm going to get a VR6 as a project
Urm warranty on the MAF? Fook paying out for another after less than 12 month!!
Urm warranty on the MAF? Fook paying out for another after less than 12 month!!
Lost the receipt for the GSF one, they wanted nothing to do with my without it. My own fault really! It was the RR day last October when I got the one from GSF, that's the last time I buy anything non-genuine!

Polished inlet manifold would finish it off
Straightening your oil cap would help too
The only problem with going with a crackle effect is that it'd look sh!t.
powdercoat it the same colour as your pipes

I wondered whether this might look good to.
Is the shock a complete insert, if so a little oil will not hurt as it will stop it rattling.
Is the shock a complete insert, if so a little oil will not hurt as it will stop it rattling.
Yeah it is, the nearside one was bone dry though. Apparently you can replace the JOM shocks with Koni inserts....something that might be a worthwhile upgrade.
In theory that little cap stops the rattling by holding the shock in place
Hope you curb a wheel!
Car is looking awesome
Still think you should do a red underlay and black crackle over it!! I'm not saying it again, do it!!

Whenever I have fitted inserts, I always use a little oil or even antifreeze they do tend to rattle otherwise.
How do you find the ride on the JOMs Dom?
I would bin the GTI badge as well :undecided:

Nice job on the valance, what polish did you use?
Feel for you with the Kitchen tiles, I get things like this sometimes.. Currently looking at wood flooring.
Love it, much more meaner looking
Dom, did you Decat the Golf? If so, how do you get her through MOT's?
Does look much better like this... :afro:
As far as decatting goes, someone needs to design a quick release system for swapping the relevant section....
Saying that though, how long would it take though really to swap out once a year?
Looking ace.....
Not so sure about the car you parked next to though....... :undecided:

It was bought as a £500 sh!tter with really bad paint/bodywork, it's been done like that to get attention and split opinions....which it certainly does
Never seen one of those
Does it touch the aerial when you open the boot?
The boot (new to the car last month) had a huge amount of contamination
Shiny
Wanna do mine? Finish looks lovely mate :afro:
QuoteThe boot (new to the car last month) had a huge amount of contamination

Haha it has the be the most pointless piece of crap ever  ran my old 1.8turd through winter without it no problem :)
Refund i hope?
Car looks really well pal.
You're crazy
wish I'd known you were after a 4mo valance, got one sat in the garden lol
That air install is absolutely lovely :afro:
Are you going for the Polo/Golf hybrid strut caps like I made?
Lastly have you noticed an improvement in your MPG now you have the Miltek?
How much can your friend get me a air for the mk3 ?
^ Don't beat around the bush there mate!
Defo get air, that install looks lovely. Like a nice practical install.
It seems everyone is changing there 3" system, why so? I have a feeling it wasn't just for the MPG?
Nice progress Dom
You get my link for the hybrid Polo/Golf top caps?
Nooo keep the net optic
Nooo keep the net optic
Yeah, I'm in 2 minds about it tbh. I guess it depends on the condition of it when it turns up
Looks stunning Dom :afro:
So low at the rear!
How do you cope with that as your daily?!
 So many speed bumps and pot holes in Manchester, I could never dream of going that low!
Last time I came on this site you had a red mk3 mate I think? Just had a quick read through this thread, awesome work! 8)
Has it really been 2 years!? lol. That's right bud, yeah sold the bora cost to much to run, the passat is my daily, have a mk2 20vT as a project car :) what's your future plans for this then mate? :)
Looking awesome pal!
What bushes did you go for.
Will have to hve a run down to dynodaze etc when I have the track car on the road would be good to put a face to the name
Do you need to have the wheels aligned again now?
Nice job on the splitter
Looks sweet Dom
What paint did you use?
I've bought some to do a few jobs on my car, came in two tins, one for the LC9Z paint, and a tin of lacquer for after to make it shiny shiny like the original finish.
Really gonna last well with rattle cans so low down isn't it?
- one of the rear shocks is leaking slightly
- gearbox flange seal leaking a bit as well.
Changed the temp sensor again for a genuine one, forgot to undo expansion cap before unplugging sensor, got a mouth full of coolant

Probably both down to you being so low lol

yay someone else has finally done it! Thought I was the only one
Chosen the wheels new colour yet?
Did you do all of that damage in one sitting?
meh just slam it down and walk away
What does it sound like
Looks like it will be a tight fit with the bonnet shut!!

I'm going to rip out the SAI pump and associated crap tomorrow along with the carbon canister. I'll order a catch can sometime soon and simplify the PCV system and do the brake booster mod to tidy the bay up a bit.
Also bought a spare inlet manifold so I can get that powdercoated along with my spare rocker cover when I get the wheels done - should look good.
Wow great looking golf dom. Top dedication in your efforts to do things properly. Too many chavvy golf's and r32 fiberglass reps about atm.
Must say did preferences the anniversary rear though, but each to there own.
Did u have and problems with sump catching while that low
Are them joms really.that cack?
Looking good dude
Starting to look very tidy with the deletes! The head and mani will be a nice edition!
Ps. Where is you get your sk2 filter, gsf?
That looks absolutely superb mate.
What do the two Poorboys products do?
That is super shiny!!
Needs new rear lights
Cant believe you are still rocking the standard items
Is that a fuel pump ?
Would have been better just spending that money on a Walbro 255
can get a walbro thats a direct fit and its less than £100. the S3 is no better than what u already have TBH
going walbro on mine, but a inline one.. its the Fuel pump of choice.. the standard
Yup, whereas the standard pump will struggle at 230bhp.
The walbro pumps also make a racket. If I ever get to the point where the s3 pump isn't good enough I'll fit an inline walbro as well.

Thats bollox about the Bhp capabilities (not saying you are talking bollox - just the internet in general), i can back this up as i have 350 bhp on a 8v pump, 580cc injectors, big turbo etc etc and it flows more than enough
however, going for custom map soon so walbro it is. these can cope with 700hp and is the pump that everyone uses.
I am going for a inline one, so the original will still be in the tank also..
only noisy if you dont insulate ;-)
has the extra line been blocked off?
Looking nice. How much lift can you get from the air suspension?
It was going to happen eventually!
Looking good.
wondered why you went quiet on the coilover front
Car is looking great now man.
Looks great!
Rear lights
Looks great
Going to be better than the coilovers in the long run as well.
scene whore
don't worry mate, that roughly translates to "I would love air but can't afford it"
you're making me look so bad with the instant progress of your rub strip lol
Should have got some xenons
Should have got some xenons
Can't afford xenons
You'll be glad to know I've also got another set of tail lights to modify
Looking good mate, I need to twindicate my headlights too....
Be nice to have a spare set first lol
Dom you do know theres a breaker not far from you? He has the works for mk4s!! I have added him in the good guys section!!!

Yeah a spare set is always useful :grin:Dom you do know theres a breaker not far from you? He has the works for mk4s!! I have added him in the good guys section!!!
Is that the guy in matlock? If so it's not too far, I know the guys at srs in Barnsley who break mk4s all the time as well
Looks nice apart from the rear wheels look too far forward (ie not central) in the wheel arches.
Black and silver plates look lovely on white or black cars :afro:
Just got up to speed here and the car is looking sweet dude!
Headlights look great and I just love the stance!
Good work dude
It's come along way since I first saw it at the Docs place a few years back on the RR day. Looking awesome
DON'T lacquer the lights again!!!!
I had it with a MK3, got them looking alright then literally months later lacquered them and wrecked them.
That tint stuff does NOT play ball with lacquer, the thinners eats the tint spray.

Yeah, not going to make that mistake again. I was so pissed off when I did it
Dom I have a source for rose jointed drop links, I'll send you a pic of mine...
Looking well Dom, been a while!
Looking good. Do you not have issues with amber and white on those rears?
I have an annoying rattle in the back somewhere which I put down to being the seats. Thanks Dom now I've seen this there's a new job on the list.
That's what you get for having a later one, 6 months for me is £123.75

Looking very nice Dom
What happened with the strip mate?
Same thing happened to mine when I tried to plastic weld! In the end I used araldite to stick some plastic in there then a skim of filler to give it the shape It was on the car for quite a while and it never cracked its now currently in the loft with god know what piled on top of it I had a look at it the other day and its still not cracked :D so I would suggest that method im sure theres a couple of pictures in my build thread to explain better mate
If I remember rightly I used the recessed bit of another rubstrip?!?! Not 100% but that seems right was a long time ago now ! Mines not worth buying mate lol if you look closely I never realised the rubstrip has a line in the middle of it so if I fit it again I have to reshape it
Very nice headunit, xmas pressie?
Looks good Dom. Wish someone has bought me my new one that's coming Monday.

I'm selling it as I've got a Pioneer F930BT on the way. Built nav, Bluetooth and 6.3" touchscreen. Looks like it will suit the interior better of the Bora too.

I only paid £40 for the set so they were a bargain!

Not decided on a colour yet, going to wait until I drop the wheels off and have a look at the colours they have. It'll probably just be a shade of silver.

Well the CHs have gone...some theiving b@stard has them out of my shed last night. Home insurance company won't cover them as they're classed as motor accessories.
Going to have to find some cash for new wheels within the next month as the car is supposed to be inside at Elsecar show Easter Monday.

Keep a eye out on ebay for some poping up in your area or if on anyones car round where you live. Wots the world coming to when nothing is safe.
Nothing else was taken so it was the wheels that they went for, I live in a quiet corner of a nice estate that no-one has any reason to go down :undecided:

One thing I learned doing window cleaning is you can get away with murder.
Literally going through gardens and houses, nobody in most of the time and clambering through gardens to get to houses.
There was some MK6 .:R alloys on someone's drive once, had some others fitted on the car and if I was a thief, they would have been gone.
Mate, check Gumtree too.

I will do mate, they're building right behind my house now. Police suggested that maybe someone working on site saw me putting them in there.

b@stards. It's not just the wheels as well, the tyres are probably like another £400 alone
They do look sweet on my car though!
That is bloody rubbish! Sorry to hear that mate...
Hope you find some NUEs soon, check out edition, have seen a few sets on there the past few months.

Looks like a good deal...
If its anyone of site it would more than likley be bricklayers or scaffolders no other trades will have seen you put them away, how are you with next door could it have been them who seen you or any of there friends family?
The only other possibility that I can think of is someone to do with Temple Alloys. They were being really awkward about re-doing the wheels, to the point that I threatened them with small claims court. The next day the wheels are stolen at the very same time their Facebook page disappears :undecided:

Yeah, not a bad price but I'm after 18's really. Cheers anyway :afro:

Rear lights really finish it off :afro:

Still undecided about what to get next, MK4's are worth next to nothing hence putting it back to standard and selling all the mods on...it's the only way I'll see any of my money back.
I hate you, I hate you, I hate you! This was my favourite Mk4.. I'm not looking for another one to replace it
1 more mk4s out of the game!
