Looks nice apart from the rear wheels look too far forward (ie not central) in the wheel arches.

All Mk4's do that when they're low, I quite like it

Black and silver plates look lovely on white or black cars :afro:

Black and silver will be bought :afro:

So, I've been working on some all red rear lights for a little while, as I mentioned earlier I started with some poverty spec lights which I sanded back with various grades of wet and dry paper to get rid of some imperfections in them.

I sprayed them but wasn't happy with the finish so painstakingly sanded them back down and started again. I spent a while prepping them again and then sprayed a few coats of tint spray which gave this result:

Much better! Until I stupidly thought 'I'll just give them a few coats of lacquer', what a mistake that was and this is the outcome:

The lacquer reacted with the spray and I could literally peel sections off in sheets

I then set about sanding them back again!

I got them finished again today but haven't got any final pictures yet as I'm giving them 24 hours to harden properly.

I also spent half an hour more on the rub strip, I chopped sections of a rear rubstrip and plastic welded them into the recess of the front one:

I then sanded back the welds a bit:

It's not perfect and will need some proper sanding before a skim of filler but it's a start at least!

DON'T lacquer the lights again!!!!

I had it with a MK3, got them looking alright then literally months later lacquered them and wrecked them.

That tint stuff does NOT play ball with lacquer, the thinners eats the tint spray.

Where all my moneys went.

Yeah, not going to make that mistake again. I was so pissed off when I did it

It's flipping gay. I dunno if you know anyone at a bodyshop but I did mine in the end with 2 pak lacquer and just small amounts of basecoat.

Brief update, stuck the standard rear shocks back on earlier so there is officially nothing JOM left on the car! Ride comfort is almost as good as standard now, I haven't given it a blast yet though.

If it's too wallowy then I'm going to get some Gaz fully adjustable shocks instead.

Other jobs planned for the near future:

Finish headlights
Finish rub strip
Custom rose jointed drop links
Rear top mounts
Rear arb
Replace leaking driveshaft seal
Change gearbox oil
4 New tyres
New headunit
Speakers
