Title: Current delivery times?
Post by: Bigbeemer on 24 April 2017, 21:00
Hi,

I have ordered a pure white GTI with panoramic roof, Santiago alloys, leather and keyless entry last week. Keep getting told different delivery times between 6 to 10 weeks, anybody else got any better current delivery times?  I have been told from VW today the order has been accepted by factory today but not build day.

I ordered 23rd Feb and I get it tomorrow 🙂 (8 weeks and 5 days)

That may not answer your question though as that's Feb's delivery times.

It took around 2 weeks for a build week then it took 4 weeks to arrive after the build week had started.

I placed an order on 9/3 it was built on the 10/4 and it was given 3 weeks to dealer I cancelled that order as I managed to get one of those cheap build slots at the beginning of april.

New order 03/4 car has shown with factory for nearly four weeks emailed dealer today they said its got a build slot mid may will be delivered June tracker is slow at updating.

I was tempted with the white silver but gone for pure white, I think both will be difficult to keep a deep wet look shine but will try my best

if the delivery keeps getting put back does this show on the "my VW" app or is that useless?

Yes you could change colour and wheels or other options but then it doesn't cost £150 per month!!

It's a company car with Lex, so I'm only seeing what's on the lex portal and not the VW  website or app.

Today I received a call from my dealer. He had made me aware that there was a problem placing my order with their configurator. Some of the options were generating errors. Today the order was finally accepted by the system. The estimated delivery date is week 5 2018  That's 9 months. Though apparently that will change.

OMG! Are they having a laugh, surely it has to be less time than that, mine is meant to be a prority order as currently in a 2017, 17 plate which i have rejected as found a bulge/crease in bonnet which was done in the factory and was missed on all PDI's. I ordered a white one now as a replacement.

If you go on live chat on the vw site with your order no and ask for a preliminary build week they can give you that.

I ordered a 5 door DSG GTI on 25/04. Dealer said 16-18 weeks delivery time, but the preliminary build date is 18/09. Sounds like delivery will be closer to the 25 weeks you have been given.

That's not too bad then.

Have you spec'd many options? Wonder why there's 15 weeks difference between mine and yours?

To be fair the guy I talked to said check back in 3/4 weeks and the provisional date should be a bit more accurate.

Mine's 5 door dsg, Isaac blue, 19 brescia wheels too. But also went for art velour seats, keyless and climate windscreen as well so must be a delay on one of them.

I don't mind waiting til sept tho as it will be a 67 reg and gives me plenty of time to sell my current car. Think I'll start getting frustrated if it goes beyond then though.

My provision build date has come forward from BW38 to BW31. So that's w/c 31st July.

Am I right that's it usually about a month after that to allow for building, delivery and PDI?

New member here, just ordered the following:

GTi PE, 5dr, manual in Issac Blue, with:
Dynamic chassis control
Brescia wheels (have never upgraded wheels on a new car before, but having seen the Parkers in the flesh, really don't think they look that good)
Dynaudio (what is peoples impression of this? I've not heard one myself, but enjoy my music)
Keyless
Rear camera

Been quoted 16 weeks for delivery, but not had order number yet to get a build week. Went through DtD as they seemed to offer the best price and I've used them a number of times before. I know the dealer is in the SE, but does anyone know which dealer?

As an aside, does anyone know why the price differential for the PE kit is greater for manuals than for Dsg's (£1360 for a manual, £1115 for Dsg)? Seems strange as the Dsg gets 7 speeds instead of 6, but then past experience suggests VW UK does do some odd pricing tricks.

Mine is through DTD too. Not sure if it's OK to name the dealer but they're based in Kent and they have a very similar name to a company that makes yellow diggers!

I ordered with DTD on the thursday, they rang me on the friday to confirm details, and said the dealer would be in touch by wednesday. The dealer rang on the Tuesday to finalise. Got an email that night with an order number. I have only spoken to him once, everything else has been by email. Has answered all my queries quite quickly but found that he likes to email back about 8-9pm for some reason.

Thanks for that. I will go down and collect the car and probably stop over with relatives on way back, so killing two birds, etc.
Used DtD at least five times now and they make the process very easy as well as saving the hassle of trying to negotiate with recalcitrant local dealers who claim all manner of wild and inaccurate things about DtD as soon as they are mentioned.

No worries. First time I've used DTD, but they were £2200 cheaper than my local dealer even after showing them the quote I had.

I'm up in the North East so not sure whether I'm going to go down for it when it's ready yet. The cost includes someone driving it up for me, but I'll decide nearer the time. Might see if I can get the dealer to contribute to my train ticket!

If it's on PCP or any kind of dealer-arranged finance, in my experience you will need to present yourself for collection anyway to sign the documents. This is what happened with my wife's Mazda via DTD and they refunded us the cost of a train ticket to Norwich.

Thanks. They said the finance can be sorted without having to attend in person. So maybe they do that via post then release the car the day after or something. I'll more than likely collect it, which I suspect will be quicker/easier all round, but it's nice to have the delivery option too.

I agree with Watts I'd go and collect the car ok it's going to be covered in kamakazi insects and road dust when you get home but that's the joys of driving then meticulously cleaning every last one off your paintwork lol.
I collected mine from my dealer albeit a new build and 40 mile trip but the buzz made it worth the run lol

Just ordered a 7.5 GTI Performance Pack from Lookers in Newcastle. They matched the online price and the delivery time quoted was 12-16 weeks. I'm coming from a Seat Leon Fr184 and was going to buy a Cupra 300 - I prefer the look of the Cupra but I don't want 19" wheels and the quality of the Golf is far higher. The Leon was £2500 cheaper online but the depreciation is horrendous.

I totally agree that picking it up yourself is the way to do it. This is my second Golf through DTD so first time I had to drive it back from Liverpool to South Wales. Sorry this is slightly off topic.

As above I agree with the quality the Fr is a nice looking car but what let's it down as you stated was build quality and quality of cheap plastics inside the dash is horrendous the door cards are plastic and the steering wheels ain't even leather so yeah yeah Golf way out weighs the seat....

The Liverpool trip was 2014 when I picked up my GTI, the M25 experience was last month when I picked my R up.
It might be less distance than the Liverpool but still took longer.

Golf R Estate (Pure White) with no extras. Had everything in my MK6 GTI and although I like leather, fancied a change this time round so sticking with the standard R seats.

Not long to wait, can I ask when did you place your order?

7th of April

My delivery time has changed from week 5 2018 to week 26. That's the last week in June. So delivery mid July - fingers crossed.
Gone back from week 26 to week 33. So September delivery now.

I thought that date was too good to be true. :undecided:

My build is due to start this week and I've been told, all being well, it should be with the dealer by mid June and ready to callect a few days later. I ordered at the beginning of April. It's a manual GTD, which might make some difference.

I got an email from the dealer with an order number the day after ordering (25/04). The tracking number worked straight away but was at stage 1 order processing or whatever it's called.

The next morning it changed to with the factory, where it's been since. My provisional build week is 31/07.

My provisional build week has moved forward 1 week to w/c 24/07 now.

If it takes 4 weeks to get to the dealer it's going to be available mid to back end of August.

What's the general consensus in terms of waiting for the new reg in September? I'll be putting a private plate on anyway just wondering if it being a 67 reg would help with residual value?

Ok thanks. So it's going to be better in the long run to wait for the new reg.

I've never bought a brand new car before. Are the dealers usually flexible in that they'll keep hold of the car for a couple of weeks if it arrives just before the new reg dates?

The dealers order probably hasn't been accepted by the factory because they may well of outsold there allocation. I would keep an eye on it......

Have you tried the live chat on the vw website? The tracker app just says 'with the factory' whereas on the live chat they can give you a provisional build date. That is presuming the tracker number you have been given shows up on their system.

Don't pin your hopes on the tracker.
Mine has been showing stage 5 (In Transit) since it was built on the 6th May. It's been at the dealer for 5 days and still not updated.

As others suggest - vw live chat is the best way for real-time updates.

Thanks for the live chat suggestion guys.  Just spoken to an agent who told me that my order is accepted and allocated a provisional build week of 33 at the moment.  I'm guessing at 4-6 weeks from build to collection? So my lead time is looking like 16-18 weeks.

He also confirmed issues with the tracker

Yes, this works. I've just used it to find out that my build week is provisionally 26.06.17. Guess this would mean delivery early August, so will be available for 1st September registration and collection

I wouldn't be surprised if that build was earlier, besides don't they reckon 2 weeks to get to dealers. Be amazed if it's not available by mid July? Mine arrived a month before best due time. That would mean an awful long wait until September. Also depends on size of dealer network regarding storage I would think.

I don't know that being 17 or 67 makes any difference with these anyway.

Mine will be a 67 plate due to timing with other car (and I wouldn't take delivery of a new car if it was only a month away from a new reg.)

4 weeks seems to be the norm from factory to dealer (it was for two last VW's, current A6 and even a Fabia that was built and sat at port awaiting shipping to UK), but I guess it can depend on sailings, etc.

I used VW chat this afternoon to chase up why my order number is not recognised by VW tracker.  Shaz said she'd refer it to the technical department, but did check on my order number's status, which if the tracker was working correctly would show as Stage 3 as I'm allocated build w/c 24th July.  If that stays the same I could be on for 1st September delivery which will be ace.  She did say I could always check progress with my dealer or return to VW chat.  I said VW could do better than that by getting the tracker working properly, so we'll see if that materialises in the short-term or not?

I think you're still on stage 2 if they've only given a provisional date, as stage 3 is build date confirmed. When I spoke to them on live chat they said build week is usually confirmed 4 weeks prior, so you should expect it to move onto stage 3 last week in June if nothing changes.

Obviously if the tracker isn't working this is probably irrelevant anyway!

I can confirm that the tracker is about as useful as tits on a bull. My build week was 2 weeks ago and it's still saying it's in progress. Jumped on the chat today and was told that it's arrived on UK soil yesterday

Been told it can take 7-10 days from arriving in the UK to getting to the dealer? I'm hoping it'll be a bit quicker than that but just glad it's not still being built and the wait is nearly over.

Hi guys,

To add my story in to the mix:

I ordered a new GTI late April  (I think it was the 29th or 30th). I was told it was a 12-15 week lead time and to expect delivery mid August.

I spoke VW on the live chat thing and my provisional build date is the 21st August (wk 34), that build will take around 2 weeks and that could take up to 10 weeks on top of that for it to be shipped and delivered.

I appreciate that VW might be conservative - by my calculations, the worst I could be looking at is mid November.

Not impressed

If your build is in August you have to be prepared for the two week factory shutdown so that will drag things out a bit. Not great for you but unlike here most of Europe buggers off on holiday during August.

No, just make sure you don't rev it above 3.5k until the oil is near 90 degrees. It takes longer than the water temperature to get to normal.

There doesn't seem to be much logic as to how the build dates are allocated. Some are waiting 6 weeks for a car, others 16.

I take it factors such as specification and how many build slots each dealership has taken up have a big effect on manufacturing time.

I've had an update today too, I'm also in the Build Week 30 gang, think I've done alright considering that JCB didn't process my order until the 16/05!

Luckily I revised my spec last week too, need to update my signature now

Hi all, not sure if I ever mentioned that I'd ordered a 7.5.

My build week has just confirmed today too, w/c 24th July, so looks like week 30? As per other posts.

I ordered mine on 11th April  but I think the order was actually processed a few days later.

Roll on 1st September  (hopefully)

I originally opted for Iridium Grey but changed my mind when I saw some pics of the car in Isaac Blue I thought it looked different... maybe I should have stuck with grey.  😀

I don't think Isaac Blue will be particularly common. It's exclusive to the gti and gtd whereas indium is across the range and on ther models too. Since ordering I keep my eyes peeled for gtis on the road and they seem quite rare regardless.

Snap. Ordered mine on 7th April and just had build week confirmed as w/b 24th July on the online tracker, quite a bit longer than the 12 weeks the dealer quoted. White manual GTI with Santiagos.

I was lucky and ordered a PP that was already queued for build. Order went in on the 1st June, build week was not showing on the app but randomly got a notification saying it had been built on the 8th June. Expected delivery for this model is apparently 4 weeks so hoping to collect mid to late July.

Spoke to VW chat a few days ago and it is awaiting transport to the port.

It will be interesting to see how long it does take to get to you, my build week is next week so currently debating (with myself) if i take it when it potentially arrives at the dealer or defer to Sept.

I was thinking the same, I was initially told it would be ready to collect in early August, in which case the argument for deferring it until 1st September was a lot stronger. The dealer was happy to store it for the 67 plates. Now that it looks more like Mid July I don't think I would wait the additional month and a half, not that there is much point as there is a lot less focus on the plate these days, more the date it was registered.

If all goes well I think your car will be built by the 23rd, shipping takes 3/4 weeks so I would say late July/first week of August? Only a 3/4 week wait for the new plates. The dealers will be desperate to clear orders prior to the September rush so I doubt they will hang around with the prep.

Edit:- Just had a call from the dealer this afternoon and it has arrived in the UK, they are trying to get it to me before 1st July...   Things are moving quickly now.

Well, bit of a surprise, the tracker app just notified me that my car had been built already (a week early) and is now in transit. My assumption is that its looking like Mid July (unless of course this is a delayed tracker message and its actually half way here).

My 5dr GTI manual was build week 25 (5th June). On live chat on Wednesday I was told it was at Tyne and my dealer had booked transport for it. Had a call this morning(Friday) from my dealer to say the car had arrived late afternoon Thursday. It should be ready for collection Wednesday, although I'm popping in to sort paperwork tomorrow and have a sneaky peak.
Not too bad a delivery time at 7 weeks from ordering to collection.

Title: Re: Current delivery times?

I suppose many factors will influence delivery time, such as spec of car, port of arrival and transportation to dealer. Mine is a standard spec 5dr manual in Tornado red and I know my car was collected from Tyne within a day of arriving as the dealer had a few cars on the same shipment.
When talking to the dealer today, even he was surprised it had arrived so soon. Had a quick look around it in their workshop this afternoon and it looks even better than in the brochure. I took some photos, but can't figure out how to post them on here.

And additionally, if the dealer accepts customer orders in excess of their monthly vehicle allocation this can delay the build.

Assuming the dealer ordering system is still the same as it was for the mk6 Golf, dealers are restricted by VW to the number of certain models such as the Golf GTI they can order each month. If they accept more orders in a month than their allocation, those orders are carried over to the next (or subsequent months). So a customer can order a car in June, but if the dealer has exceeded their allocation, this can add a month or more to the build, as the order won't be placed with the factory until the following month or later.

I don't think the dealer would volunteer this information if the customer didn't ask for it; could mean the difference between then getting the sale or losing a potential customer.

Personally I'm waiting if my build week 30 order is available sooner than September 1st.  Suits my circumstances though (holiday commitments, current PCP ending etc).  Even without that for the sake of a few weeks now I'd likely wait for the new reg.

I'm planning on buying using PCP (and maybe cancel at a later date) but just noticed that 'The Golf Event' is running from 7th-24th July which now offers a £1500 contribution. I'll ask the dealer if I'm eligible for the new finance contribution when I sign the paperwork, but has anyone been in this position where the offers have changed between ordering and collecting the car? If so did you get the new deal?

I've also noticed that the base price of the GTI has increased too just as this increased deposit contribution has been announced.

The base price of the 230 5 door DSG GTI has gone up £400 since what it was when I ordered mine. So at best you're only missing out on £250 tops. £100 there and can still get the first 2 services for £149.

Obviously if you can get them to honour the new deal it's better. But if not it's not the end of the world.

Just had a call from my broker who I ordered the car through. So ordered on 10th May and collecting on 17th July  . Only downside is its costing £450 to have it transported up
Throw a couple of hundred my way and I'll drive up to Glasgow and drop you off at the dealers.

Update: my tracker has just jumped forward this morning. Gone from build week confirmed 24/07 to in transit. Skipped the build in progress step completely.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: Beezer on 07 July 2017, 15:02
Sorry to double post, another update which might help answer why all the build week 30 orders have jumped forward.

From VW live chat:

'Thanks for waiting. I have some clarification now. The car has been built and it left the factory today, en route to the German Port of Exit. The reason is that it has been built early. Originally it was scheduled to be built during week 30, but it was built early due to a factory closure.'

Fair play to the guy I spoke to he couldn't get any joy on the phone, so physically went two floors down to get some clarification in person.

Whether this means the cars will sit in Germany til the original planned shipping date, or it ships sooner, I'm not certain, as he didn't have any more info on that.

If it's showing as in transit my guess is it'll get shipped as soon as it fits in with their schedule. Mine was supposed to be build week 24/07 but has already arrived in the UK on 4/07. Spoke to my dealer yesterday who wasn't even aware it had been built!

Well my tracker updated last Friday to 'in transit' so thought I'd go on live chat this morning to see if any more updates.

My car left Emden for Sheerness yesterday. So that was less that a week from leaving the factory to being on a ship.

Been on marine traffic site and the Thames Highway ship is due into Sheerness from Emden this morning, so my GTI must be on that.

Also I've just discovered where Sheerness is! I thought it was in Scotland!! :D

I have finally taken the plunge and placed an order on a GTI Performance Pack.

Placed the order on the 14th July.

How long did it take for you to get a build week added to the progress? I am at stage 2 - "With the factory".

The dealer gave me an expected time scale of 16 weeks. Are these normally accurate?

Title: Re: Current delivery times?

I think these build weeks might come forward, its due to a delay on the rear lights in most instances and I think they are being conservative in the estimates

Bear in mind your order depends on how clued up your salesman is to ordering process, he should be able to modify an existing order for gti and give you a build week at point of order unless your retailer is completely sold out of gti. Not having a build week for gti at point of order is not a good sign.

Just to give you a heads up, James at JCB Medway emailed me the below earlier this week, it looks like some of us should start getting confirmed build weeks very soon fingers crossed:

The Golf we have ordered for you does have a confirmed build week for its production at the factory during week 32, 7th-13th August, due to the factory currently being on partial summer shutdown our factory order system has not fully updated with this information, so this is why it is currently showing at stage two on the tracking website, it is actually at stage three.

FYI, I ordered 8th May..

So after my car shipped about a month early I was left with the dilemma of whether to take it straight away or wait til sept. Decided if I could sell current car and get the new GTI before the end of July then that's what I'd go with.

Anyway got a bite on Autotrader after a few days and while it was a little bit short of what I wanted it was a concrete offer so the old one went on Monday.

Was surprised how quick the DTD dealer got my new one ready. They were happy to store til September if I wanted but at around 12pm today I took delivery of this little beauty....

Thanks mate. Yeah I'll try and post a few better pictures once I've given it a good clean. Couldn't have picked a worse day weather wise for delivery it was filthy by the time it got here (about 280 miles in the rain!). Gave it a quick rinse once the weather brightened up. The photo above was about 8:30pm so was running out of daylight by then. The wheels up close are really nice. I know diamond cut aren't everyone's cup of tea, but up close they really stand out.

My old car was a RR Evoque. Only had it about 2 year, was nice on long journeys but was a bit of a bus for day to day driving so fancied something a bit more fun. The Evoque was 5 year old now and while I had a lot of advert views I didn't get many calls. I think people are put off buying expensive cars privately as there's the risk of getting scammed or buying a dog with little comeback. It was actually a garage from Derby who bought it. They said they sell a lot of them. I'd priced it fairly cheap to sell and while I took about £600 less than I wanted, it was still £2400 more than we buy any car and the like we're offering. Overall I'm happy enough considering the 15% discount I got on the GTI by going through Drivethedeal.

I offered to collect mine but asked if he could knock anything off cost wise or chuck something in free as I was saving him the delivery cost. He wouldn't do neither so I just said deliver it then as it was included in the DTD price. A train ticket at short notice would cost me best part of £100

I know people worry about them just chucking the work experience kid they keys and it being flogged, but the delivery guy they sent was spot on. Retired fella whose does drop offs for them 2/3 times a week. Took him best part of 6 hours to get up to Durham so must have been taking it nice and easy.

After collection we will probably spend the day out driving the car. Though the garage is only a 15 miles away. There is a restaurant we both like about 100 miles along the coast. I ordered GTI pp on 9th May, tracker currently shows 'nearly there', though it's been like that for a few weeks.

Just realised that having had a confirmation email from VW (16.05.17) confirming that I had signed up for tracker alerts, I never received any! Is that usual?

The tracker is nice when it works, but it doesn't always and sometimes jumps steps quite dramatically.

If you are really sweating, talk to VW UK online for an update on your order... otherwise just relax and listen to some whale music or something.

We ordered it on the 24th July (2 weeks ago) through Blue Chilli cars in Manchester. A cancelled order at Crewe VW so we should see it in around another 4 weeks, so that's 6 weeks from saying yes to taking delivery !

Just off live chat checking the progress:

GTI 230 PS  DSG   3 door.   Pearl Black / heated screen / Dynaudio / reverse camera

Order placed 19/07
Build week beginning 09/10

Then:
Completion of the build = 14 days
Factory to port of exit = 7 days
Waiting for space on ship = 14 days
Port of exit to UK = 2 to 3 days
Unloading the ship = 2 days
Time at the UK port = 7 to 10 days
UK port to Retailer = 2 to 4 days

So early / mid-December collection = 25 / 26 weeks.

I'm assuming this is all "computer says" nonsense though.   Hopefully

Just got my build date confirmation come through on the app for the 21/08/2017.

On average how many weeks from build start date to delivery am I looking at?

Matt

I think it's all a bit pot luck tbh.

My confirmed build week was 31/07.

The iPhone app updated on Friday 07/07 to say it had left the factory (early). It arrived in the UK Friday 14/07 and at the dealers on Tues 18/07. So went through both ports and shipping in just over a week.

Ordered my GTi DSG at start of July and dealer talked of build week 38 mid September. Was on the chat today as app was still just showing with the factory. She gave me an unconfirmed build week of 41 mid October and said it previously was showing week 45. Doesn't sound like I will have my GTi any time soon. Quite ridiculous to have to wait so long for a standard volume car, my Porsche was a long wait but that's because of low allocation to the uk.

Mick, Ferwie, MrE.....when did you place the order originally?

Hiya - mine was ordered either last week in April or first week in May - can't remember exactly from Crewe VW.

The my VW app has just updated my build week 30 order to status 6, arrived in the UK.  Won't be collecting it until the new reg but nice to know she's here

And today it's updated to in transit to dealership, so looks like it's gonna be less than 10 days from build to forecourt!

It was ordered through DTD on the 12th May but if I'm honest I don't think the dealer processed order until half way through the following week so around the 17th.  Just over 10 weeks to dealer when I was quoted 16-18 weeks originally.

I have had the same with the App not moving off step two 'with factory' but asking on chat today and they said I currently have a proposed build week 38. Having never previously bought a new car it's going to be a long wait to get the car. The misses is already fed of me talking about it!
Sure it will be worth though.

Got a message from my dealer this morning to say that the car was expected to be delivered today.(http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/styles/default/xenforo/asn/aa/yahoo.gif)

So 14 weeks.

There was 1 week delay before the system accepted the order - a problem with options. Then there was a 3 week factory holiday.

If it helps, my provisional build week was the 7th Aug and was in transit on the 8th, skipping all the stages in between.

Even on the 8th VW couldn't confirm my build week...

Have you tried VWs live chat, they can normally give you a previsional build week to give you an idea of when to expect it.

Mine is currently on build week 39 but the app still shows as 'With the factory'

Don't be to concerned if the tracker is stuck at 'With the factory' at the moment I understand there is an issue with updating at each stage, therefore this week my car was unconfirmed build week 33 and went from 'With the factory' to 'In transit' and is now built sat at Emden waiting for a boat!

Use the VW Live Chat they can confirm your provisional build week which will give you a good idea of when to expect build to commence!

Ordered my GTI Performance on 25 July.
Just been informed the provisional build date is 16 October. I was then asked what model and colour I had ordered to then be told the build week is likely to be earlier but cannot confirm that will definitely be the case.
Anyone know if colour and model impact on build dates. My car will be Tornado Red.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: SRGTD on 18 August 2017, 16:20
Build timescales can be affected by the options specified - although availability of certain options would be more likely to delay build, rather than bring the build date forward. A few years back when the mk6 was the current model, there were issues with the supply of DSG gearboxes and rear view cameras that delayed the build of some customers cars.

I don't know if colour has any impact on build dates but I'm assuming that car bodies are painted in batches of the same colour. So it could be that your car has been slotted into an earlier (than originally planned) batch of Tornado Red cars; I assume this is more likely if your car is standard spec, where build won't be influenced by options availability from VW's suppliers.

I find the VW My Car App is not very good so I went onto the VW Chat Line who gave me a Start Build Week 41

I believe manual gear box have a quicker delivery time than DSG.

All you need to do is give Chat Line your Order Number.

Just been to my dealer to finalise paperwork.
Picking up on teatime on 1st September after ordering in June.
Don't pay much attention to the app, mine didn't move for ages until it suddenly moved to in transit on the 11th of August, in UK a week later and almost immediately after that dealer was in touch to say it was in their compound.

Car is a 5 Dr GTD manual in White with Panoramic roof, Brescias, heated screen and voice command (yeah I know people have mixed feelings about that!)

Very excited to be back in a Golf after a disappointing flirtation with a BMW

Seeing your comment, I thought I would see if my build week changed and it has. I originally had an unconfirmed build week 38 which slipped to week 39.

Having just gone on live chat I have now been advised that it has been pushed back to build week 47 and that advisor suggested I would not get the car until January. I order at the beginning of July, I never expected to not get the car until next year!

I received an email this afternoon saying that my delivery has slipped two weeks.

So it's now last week Oct build, so with the dealer perhaps end Nov.  Order was placed mid-July.

Apparently delays affecting GTIs and Rs.

Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: CocoPops on 29 August 2017, 20:50
Interesting, what's the reason for the delays?
Lack of engines?
Lack of other GTI specific parts?
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: fredgroves on 29 August 2017, 21:02
I'd guess it was just a surge in sales after the 7.5 was actually in showrooms.

Not effecting the gtd because nobody loves an oil burner any more :'(

I spoke to my dealer yesterday to see if he had an update on my provisional wk40 BW and he said it had come in to wk39. I ordered at the start of July (5th). Hopefully that won't have changed when I next speak to him.

i thought i'd join the forum to share the pain.

i ordered a no frills manual GTI 7th August. Isaac Blue for what it's worth.

two weeks ago the estimated build week was 42 - 16th October. It is now 41. I asked online if delays were affecting DSG models only, but they 'couldn't comment on specifics'.

The delivery times must be based on the specs of the cars.  Not a lot you can do really, just spec the car you want and wait

Definitely. It will be based on the availability of whatever components are needed for your build... including standard items that are actually options as far as the German factory are concerned.

Agree mcmaddy, 11 and 12 weeks is nothing. When I had my mk6 GTD it took 8 months from date of order to taking delivery. I'd have been more than happy with a 20 week wait.

i do agree that if they can get a car to me in 3-4 months, its not that bad. It's the first time i have not bought from stock, so i will stop complaining until it becomes 6 months.

for those who have longer wait times - are you renegotiating any equity in you current cars? or do you have to just accept what they gave you when you ordered?

i guess it can go down, but in 6 months you'd hope not.

nothing at all no px just using vw finance to get the extra 1k off.. the cars a PP model and specced up but still to be told my build week is the 19th nov now seems a bit long..(ordered last week of june) imho i'd of thought 3 to 4 months max....

I'm not sure what you're asking here - sorry.

In my case of delayed delivery, the dealer is holding to the px price agreed which leaves them out pocket by whatever my car depreciates in the extra month I'm driving it.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: richwade80 on 30 August 2017, 14:27
this is where my man maths gets exposed...

so i currently have a vw golf on finance which i am px'ing to get the gti. i have over a year left on the three year term. it had about £600 of equity in it when i ordered the gti. in 4 months time, i will have paid more off than it would depreciate and the settlement figure should mean there is more equity in the car.

its probably only a few hundred quid at best, but if you were waiting 6 months it could be a grand.

or i could have got it completely wrong.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: fredgroves on 30 August 2017, 14:33
The old car's finance though isn't settled until you do the PX though.

So whatever the dealer gives you for the old car is subtracted from the outstanding finance bill at the time of transaction, so whatever is owed is owed on that day.

Sure the figure is going to be different to the one you've got now, but don't worry - they will make sure its right.

Once the dealer gives you the order number you can use the 'chat live' on the Track My order page and they will usually give you a pretty accurate build week.

Just put in an order for a 7.5 in Tornado red. Is the general view that certain options or configurations increase build time? I'm new to performance cars so thought I'd start with a standard manual GTI, 5 Door no options so am I facing the best chance of a quicker build time, or is it just wishful thinking?

Yeah, I'm guessing (and the dealer guessed when I ordered) it would be around Christmas.

Annoyingly the dealer thought they may be able to get one that was in the country already (base spec in red obviously is going to be fairly popular) but they've not been able to get hold of one, so they should've put the order through yesterday.  I'm not all that patient but it'll be worth waiting for.

Placed an order at the last day of August and production starts on 9 October. I think I benefitted from a slot already allocated because the details that originally showed on the "My Volkswagen" was a little different from my spec, though that's sorted now.

So I guess that's delivery towards the end of November maybe? Not too long.

After its built, it goes into a giant car park waiting for transporters to take it to the port.

Then it sits at the port in Germany before being loaded.

Then it takes 2 days to reach the UK.

Then it takes at least 2 days to clear and the dealer to pick it up.

Then it takes the dealer typically a week to sort out registration, PDI and grind dirt into your paintwork to achieve maximum swirls.

I'd say you are looking at at least 4 weeks after its built before you see it.

I think it has to be in the UK before they can register it.

I got mine about 10 days before I picked the car up.

4weeks, i can live with that. but no swirl marks :(  i'm going to ask them to take it to a detailer down the road  (about 1/2 to 1mile away from dealer) to have a ceramic coat put on.
buzzing now.. :)

I doubt they'd take it, but you can ask them to leave it totally alone and take it yourself
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: richwade80 on 11 October 2017, 16:42
Is it standard practice to tell the dealer to leave it well alone? - as in, absolutely do nothing to the paintwork?

for the record, mine was scheduled to be built from two days ago, but hasn't updated online yet. I'm guessing it will suddenly change status next week and jump to 'in transit'.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?

Yes you can tell them to leave it alone, leave all the transit wrappings on it for you to remove.

Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: CocoPops on 23 October 2017, 10:38
It's also down to "build slots".
For example, every dealer will agree to "pre book" a number of build slots, say 1 a month.
The slots are "specified" with a build, that can become a customer order right up until the last minute, the spec isn't "locked" in until the build week is "confirmed".

Thus, if you walk in and ask for a GTI, the dealer may have several slots free that he can assign to your order.

My order though is not a dealer car, so thus I had to wait for the first "free" slot that had not been allocated to a dealer.

My dealer says it will be here in 3 to 4 weeks. To be honest Tom a message to me on My VW App on Wednesday stated my car was in transit and today another message stating in transit and 3 weeks for delivery to dealer. 4 to 5 weeks from ordering to build week doesn't seem much different to what I was quoted recently on a factory order GTD.

By the time it arrives at the dealers it will probably end up being 9 or 10 weeks in total.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: fredgroves on 30 October 2017, 20:29
I'd not trust random dates from a dealer. Nobody can tell you how long it will be before the build week until it's confirmed by the factory. They'll tell you anything to get you to sign.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: Guzzle on 30 October 2017, 21:21
Must be coincidence then. I was quoted 10 weeks for delivery. We all know it's 4 to 5 weeks from build to delivery as it says so on the VW tracker.

Maurizie's confirmed build week is almost exactly 5 weeks after placement of order.

Just to confirm, yes my 6th November is a confirmed build week

It seems that a 3dr manual GTD is a bit of a rare configuration, so maybe that helped with speeding the build week up a bit?

Absolutely luck of the draw mate, it totally depends on the availability of the on hand components.

They use a computer system to align the component list of your car with the arrival (note I say *arrival*) of the individual components which come from a variety of different (mainly external) suppliers. When the system predicts the bits will all be there they are allocated to your car's build.

Its called "just in time" or nowdays ERP and its a concept created by Toyota many moons ago to reduce costs in the motor industry but also used by any large scale manufacturer of stuff - my own company included.

Whilst they try to predict demand and match orders of parts from suppliers to predicted demand, demand isn't constant and sometimes you get lucky in ordering either when there is slack or when demand is as predicted. They will have a target for order to build times, but this can be missed for all sorts of reasons (extra unpredicted demand caused by disconnect between marketing and production, economic downturns, sudden weather changes etc).

And absolutely none of this is communicated with dealerships or even VW UK...

Anyway, just a little background from someone in manufacturing :D

They have obviously got a full box of bits to build mine then

Did your dealer tell you that or did you get it from VW? Also has your app/online tracking updated at all? Don't think mine made it onto that ship unfortunately  see that Weser Highway is due in on Thursday though so hopefully will be on that!

VW told me although had to push the guy a bit. He told me it was at sea and due in port in 2 or 3 days, this was just earlier today I was chatting to him. I asked for the vessel name which took a little time to get but he did get me the name. That let me onto the shipping trackers to find it will arrive today.

They can wait for up to two weeks in Emden to be assigned - although normally is faster than this. Also bear in mind that it may not be going to Grimsby! I was checking all the Grimsby headed ships, then was told that mine had left on a ship bound for Sheerness!
Mine's been confirmed as at the dealers, but the person i've been speaking to is on annual leave this week  still hasn't been 'checked in' by them, but hopefully will be hearing more soon!!

Have spoken to dealership again and have it confirmed will be picking up next week     - not because they can't sort out the paperwork, but because the person I have been speaking to is the one that has to do the handover!!
I spoke to my dealer after it was built - I.e. 25th October and they told me it normally takes 4-5 weeks - obviously mine has gone through faster than usual for some reason!?!? :whistle:not complaining though
Regarding waiting delays, I was told to allow up to 14 days at Emden - was actually only three so keep checking  - and then when it had arrived I chased again and they said usually takes a full 14 days to arrive at the dealer once the ship has landed - again this was totally wrong as mine was turned round within 72 hours! Doubt it should be more than 4 weeks once it's built to you picking it up/delivery though - although may be proved wrong!

Mine reached stage 7 "Nearly there" today or maybe yesterday. Assume that means its at the dealers, strange thing is that through the whole process the website tracker link has been quicker to update, the app has been very slow and sometimes jumped a couple of stages as it was so far behind. however now the app shows stage 7 and the website still stage 6, all a bit odd.

My salesman is off today so haven't got confirmation its there but must be. Would like to collect on Saturday if it can be ready but I'm keen to have my cherished reg on for collection and not sure if they have the reg cert back yet, it was being registered end of last week when I signed the finance docs.

Dealer has got mine down for a Q4 sale so don’t think they would have necessarily filled a cancelled order slot for mine as I have stated all along I don’t want it until Mar 1st 2018 and they were fine with this.

@Cosmic ...Ive learnt a fair few thanks to the peep on here ..and then experiencing the agonising wait which is almost over .

Mine arrived at Emden on the 30th had some checks ...then 31st some other process and only "officially arrived in port of exit on the 1st . Sat for for exactly 10 Days waiting for a ship but got here early hours of Sunday morning and I've had word from VW it left for the dealers on the 13th .

some guys like @tom the car barley stopped and went from in transit to in the UK in like 4/5 days ...guess its lick of the draw , do you know which port yours is going to ? Also ..really press the VW people and id rather call then live chat ...be specific and say you want precise details of where it is etc etc ..they can give that to you but some avoid it ....

Goodluck

It’s more about how many scheduled build slots your dealer has.

If he has a slot that s still changeable then you can get that slot in just a few weeks.
Title: Re: Current delivery times?
Post by: SRGTD on 01 December 2017, 10:09
Are cars taking 3-4 months typically ? When I get to order time I'm looking at the GTi pp, 5 dr, pro nav, dynaudio and maybe a grey ( need to decide which looks nicer ) so assume none of these are in short supply ?

VW’s order and build system means that cars are built to order, so although your choice of spec might be a popular one, and VW may produce a number of GTI’s to that spec, there won’t be a stock of readily available cars to your spec for VW to supply you with one.

It’s more about how many scheduled build slots your dealer has.

If he has a slot that s still changeable then you can get that slot in just a few weeks.

As well as the number of build slots available to the dealer, VW operate a ‘just in time’ parts supply system - they don’t hold stocks of component parts for a car’s build as this isn’t cost-effective. Components are ordered from VW’s parts / component manufacturers and suppliers when a vehicle order is received and accepted by the factory. A specific car’s build won’t start until all the parts are available to build the car to the customer’s required spec, so a major factor in the timescales for building a car is the effectiveness of the supply chain of parts feeding into the build process. If manufacturer of specific component parts have problems building and supplying these to VW, then that could impact build timescales of cars that require those parts.

Mine arrived in the UK a week after being built last week, all updated through the app so I should be picking it up from the dealership in 2-3 weeks.

Grimsby is one of a number of ports Volkswagen use. What part of the country your dealer is will most likely determine where your car arrives in the U.K. Sheerness and Port of Tyne are others.

My GTI has a build week of 50 confirmed, just checked the tracker and it’s already skipped ‘build in progress’ and gone straight to ‘in transit’ yessssss! Way ahead of schedule

I hoping it’s early enough not to get delayed in shipping/transport/customs by the Christmas break.

FFS!!

My car arrived at Emden on 9th November... was "Released to Ship" on 1st December, yet still hasn't boarded a bloody boat yet!
Apparently it can sit in "released to ship" for 14days, so it might not even board a ship until 15th December.

Have to say, it's not looking like a preChristmas delivery :(

Oh no, that's an awfully long time to have to wait without any progress, I'll keep my fingers crossed yours gets shipped soon.

So what would you do??
I ordered my next car at the end of September based on a 16week lead time for a March delivery. To cut a long story short my car is built much sooner than expected and is now in this country as of last week and I am in two minds whether to stand firm and stick to March delivery or get it the first week of January instead??
My thinking on March was that the worst of the winter would hopefully be over by then and not long to wait until the lighter nights came along rather than only seeing it in the dark of January and February and constantly trying to keep it clean of the worst of the salt infused winter road grime!
I don’t think it will make too much difference come resale time either whether it is a 67 or 18 plate now there are two plate changes a year. I can also re jig my finances to make it work for January too so it all comes down to whether I want to leave my new car Nearly 3 months doing nothing or letting the “I want it now” urges take over ???   :undecided:

If you don’t take delivery until March it will be sat in the dealers compound  getting covered in bird poo etc
Plus risk of it getting scratched or damaged
I think I would take it in January

I done the deal on mine between Christmas and the new year last year and waited until 1st March to pick it up. It was put into storage(I'm guessing put in a corner) at Grimsby port until the middle of February.

Was yours already built and there when you did the deal? If so how long was yours there for?
My salesman got me thinking when he said they would not raise a transport order to move it to their PDI site for “a few weeks” which makes me think it will at the mercy of Grimsby’s seagull fraternity to use as target practice !!
It may as well be tucked up in my garage instead

My GTI was build on Monday this week according to VW live chat, then arrived at Emden on Wednesday and has been released for shipping, now just the long wait for it to be assigned to a boat

Does anyone know which port cars that are going to Scotland come into? I’m thinking it’ll probably be Tyne as it’s further north.

Thanks Mcmaddy! I’ve become a total saddo looking at the shipping schedules, spoke VWCS today my car is still waiting to be allocated to a boat. From the schedules I’ve looked at nothing due in to port of Tyne until at least the 20th of December

Anyone got experience of how long it might be until my car is allocated to a boat going to port of Tyne?

Moved to ‘10 days’ this morning, and confirmed with VWCS as being aboard City of Rottterdam. Went to see my dealer last night, he wants to get the car handed over by the end of the month to meet his targets, so will chase transport,  I think it might be right given the Christmas bank holidays, but you never know.

Any experience of how long it might be to get transport after it clears Customs?

I was with my salesman yesterday to see if I could get mine earlier as I was originally planning for a March delivery. Mine arrived a couple of weeks ago and has been sitting at Grimsby ever since. He said that yesterday was the last day they could call a car from the UK port of entry to arrive before the end of December. Hopefully your dealer is aware of this if they wanted to complete the deal before the end of the month

According to Live Chat, mine has now arrived at VW UK, MK.

Not sure if they can PDI it ready for collection before Christmas though :(

So most likely first week of January now.

Well, some good news today. My 5dr DSG indium grey GIT arrived at port of Tyne on Saturday evening, after a bit of a delay I got a stage 6 'your car is now in the UK and awaiting transportation' notification on Tuesday so called my dealer and spoke to VWCS who said it would take around 10-14 days to get my car to the dealers, happy days as, like everyone else the wait has been killing me.

This morning, I spoke to VWCS  to ask for an update, to my absolute astonishment they said my car had just arrived at the dealership!! Wow, that was fast, picking her up on Friday, cannot wait  That's just over 6 weeks from ordering to delivery, it was an amended dealer specified car, but I'm still very impressed.

Order placed 8th November
Build week confirmed to be 11th December
Car actually build and left the factory 4th December
Stage 5a 'in transit' 4 weeks to go 5th December
5b 'in transit' 3 weeks to go 6th December
5c 'in transit' 10 days to go 16th December
Stage 6 'in the UK' 19th December
Stage 7 ‘nearly there’ 21st December
Collected 22nd December
