Just a quick update, going to Spain for a week tomorrow so heres how it stands atm. Pretty much ready to roll just need to move the coolant bottle over and work out the ducting for the air filter

Bad news is I found a pretty bad fuel leak when trial running and on further investigation founbd a big gash in the black fuel line. Managed to have about 5 litres leak out of it before I managed to stop it! luckily I caught most of it in a fuel can though, so first job on getting back is to get a new fuel line

Anyway, heres pics of how it stands now

Need to sort out these pedals at some point, previous owner bolted some universal momo pedals that are falling off

Just got back from Spain Monday night so plan was to order the new fuel line and get it done on Wednesday (Today) but the part is a 2 day order apparently so I'll be cracking on first thing tomorrow morning

Not sure exactly, I'm guessing somwehere above £2500 but below £3000. It could be done for less than I spent but towards the end time became more important than money so started buying new instead of hunting around scrappies etc

Tomorrow should be the day its finally running, not got much to do to get it on the road now main thing is putting the new fuel supply line in, adjusting the gear linkage and a couple of wires need splicing in for the brake and clutch pedals. other bits and pieces need doing like the intercooler pipework but not too worried about them untill its at least on the road

Its all going to sh!t!

Fuel pipe was an order from Germany which the guy at VW kindly didnt tell me, so it wont be here till next week! Doubt I'll get anything done today now as it cant move till I get the new pipe anyway, and as I'm on nights tonight and tomorrow think I'm gonna get some sleep and figure out how I'm gonna get to work next 2 nights and couple of day shifts next week

Not a happy man today :(

lol yeah cheers for the sympathy, weather was better over here anyway! Looking forward to finally having it on the road and giving your mk1 a good thrashing though

Sorry for lack of updates recently, now I'm back at work its getting harder to find time to finish this off. Today could be the day though! I'll update later with pics and stuff but for now I'll just say I've been battling a few unexpected problems :P Hopefully I'll be taking it for a test drive shortly (and probably find a load more things that need doing!)

managed to drive it home :) got about 5 minuites down the road gave it a blast and the silicone sealant I used to bodge up one of the boost pipes popped off :( also getting a bit of exhaust rattle and coolant light is flashing, but not bad I'm pleased with it :) First job in the morning is to measure the bore size and order a reducer silicon pipe for the broken boost pipe, and have a look at the exhaust to fix the rattle

ordered a cold side dv relocation from forge today so once that gets here I can plan on what I need to get the intercooler rigged up properly. Got a bit late for pics so I'll try and get some up tomorrow

Seeing threads like this has really got me contemplating having one of these engines in my valver at some point.
