Have been looking at various topics on this forum after ordering a new Golf Performance earlier this year, and have found more information than any dealer or VW UK can tell me. That said I am becoming increasingly disillusioned and frustrated with VW....
I originally placed an order for a 230hp GTI back in May this year. The dealer accepted the order, despite my concerns that it wasn't on the configurator. Even VW customer services confirmed they were still available via live chat. Less than a week later - during another conversation with VW via live chat - I was told the order was rejected by the factory and that my dealer would be in touch. As such, I changed my order to a 245hp GTI which I was assured was still available for order.
Dealer quoted 12 week lead time - VW customer services quoted 19 week lead time???
Originally told estimated build week of 31.
This then changed to week 36 during July.
This then changed to week 38 during August.
I then emailed the dealer to see if it was confirmed rather than estimated. Following an exchange of emails between dealer and VW, they eventually confirmed the build week as 38, but that the GTI Performance still wasn't WLTP type approved.....however the dealer said estimated delivery end of Oct/early Nov.
Had another live chat conversation with VW today to see if my order was actually being built this week. The customer service rep gleefully confirmed that the order went into production today. I then enquirer as to whether it had been WLTP type approved yet, and if it hasn't, when was it likely to be. After a short delay the rep confirmed that it wasn't WLTP type approved yet. Furthermore they said that when my car has finished being built, it will be stored until the WLTP certification comes through which they estimate to be during build week 50! Therefore my car is unlikely to be shipped until the second week in January 2019!
Car was ordered at the beginning of June as stated earlier in the post.
The lack of information from VW and their dealers regarding delays at the minute is diabolical. I'm just grateful that forums like these exist so you can at least attempt to find out accurate information.
For those that have recently ordered GTI's and have been quoted Nov/Dec delivery I would query with your dealer or VW UK.
-
Thank You for this, I will give them a call.
-
I'm in the same boat, ordered in May and is supposed to be built and not released yet. They say it should be here in October. 1.5tsi r line, currently running about in a golf estate courtesy of the garage until mine arrives.
-
On the plus side, having the car built and then waiting might give the soft-as-clarts water based paint time to harden. My recently acquired Polo GTI+ was built in South Africa and then underwent a 4 week voyage to Emden before being shipped to the UK in the same way as a Wolfsburg built Golf. The paint seems to have benefitted from the extra cure time vs my Golf R's paint that suffered 90% of its stone chips over 3 years in the first month of ownership. Almost 7 weeks and 1200 miles in and tge Polo hasn't been scarred yet.
Sounds like VW are building at risk - if they are buildinv cars that don't end up WLTP compliant then they have a big issue on their hands.

Yes that sounds either highly risky or an outright lie.

Not sure about that. Surely they will come up with a cheat, I mean fix to bring them into spec.

I've just spoked to VW chat and asked when is the Golf GTI PP DSG likely to be approved and the response i got was:
The Golf GTI has been WLTP approved and is just awaiting Certificate of Conformity to be released into the UK.
I then asked how long that is likely to take and the advisor responded:
We have not yet received any updates in regards to this as of yet. We just received this news from the factory yesterday.
I know we've had cases of VW online chat saying things we want to hear but surely they wouldn't lie about that? Although it wouldn't be the first time they've cheated us
-
When I spoke with VW live chat yesterday they said they expect the WLTP certification to be issued in week 50......
-
Has anyone seen this weeks Autocar mag - final report on their long term Golf Gti - near the end it says "just an auto-equipped Performance five-door remains" when talking about a slimmed down Golf range - do they have some insider info ?
-
Just had a look at the VW website - new price list is out -dated 13/9/18 - 2019 Model year models are now listed
separately to 2018 - Gti Performace is listed there as 3 & 5 door, manual & DSG but all emissions figures/prices etc are "TBA"
-

Might wanna check again and see what they say because they told me it’s just been approved

You can talk to different people at VW UK and get a different answer from all of them so you can't believe anything that's said unfortunately.
-
Just seen over on the Tiguan forum that many people have been told/received notification that their Tiguans are either currently in transit to the UK/have arrived at UK ports/sat at the dealers. Seems like its come as a bit of a shock to a lot of them as its literally happened over night, looks like they'll be getting the WLTP certificates soon so the cars can be released. Hopefully Golfs next  Worth noting Tiguan isn't listed on the VW website as WLTP approved
-
I spoke to VW yesterday via online chat, My car is still sat at unconfirmed for build week 46; even though my dealer said it was confirmed. VW rep also told me that as WLTP has now been approved for the GTI PP, that i should contact them again in a few days, as they should have further info....
Hopefully things are starting to move along. Happy for the new Tiguan owners though.
-
I'm still unconfirmed week 41 which is less than 2 weeks away, they say you should get confirmation 2-4 weeks before it gets built so looks like it will be pushed back.
-
Mine ordered 28/05 and just now received an email saying its built and at the docks awaiting transportation into the UK.

Happy Days  looks like it will soon get WLTP certified then!
-
Possibly, email said: that's your golf now built and sitting at the port in Germany awaiting shipment to the UK, hopefully it will get shipped soon. Ends: at least it's getting somewhere now....it has been some wait. As said the Audi went to the garage and they have given me a 67 plate golf estate to bomb about in.
I should be exploring the infotainment system, buttons on the steering wheel etc...i need glasses for reading so i cant make out what they are, bit of a blur! did have a 14 plate gtd and only used the adaptive cruise control once. TBH because it was a good summer i was only interested in the sunroof and because the Oettinger spoiler mimics my Quattro one i'll be happy! golhappy
-
I've had the confirmation my car is being built next week, week 41. Nothing has changed on the app and it's still down as with the factory but my dealer and VW online chat have both confirmed it. Be great if it gets WLTP certification between now and it landing at the dealers
-

Great news Neepy. Mine is still unconfirmed Week 46. I will have to contact VW to see if any update. Interesting to see how long between build and delivery now....
EDIT. Just contacted VW, and now unconfirmed for week 47. (but said may come forward)...
-
I ordered mine at the back end of August and i have confirmation the car is built and was being transported to the UK 2 weeks ago. Still awaiting WLTP approval though which i was told would be late November for the GTI performance. Here hoping i get it before christmas.
-
They can't transport a vehicle out of Emden without wltp approval so it's likely any vehicles built will all be sitting somewhere waiting to be shipped.
-
I sent VW an email on Monday of this week asking for a latest update for my order and their email response confirmed they are expecting to be WLTP compliant for the Golf GTI, middle to late November.
-
I don't think VW will ship prior to approval.
They're parking them up at the not yet in use Berlin airport and other storage facilities.
-
This is really quite annoying when I was told the Golf Gti had cleared WLTP now.
-
Now, good news re WLTP for the Golf
-

Seems strange but over on the Tiguan forum, many have said they've received notification that their cars have been shipped over and this is before WLTP approval. Some of them are sat at their dealers but can't do anything because they can't be registered with the DVLA yet.
EDIT: https://www.tiguanforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3460&start=1280 they're not lying either, some of them have been uploading photos. I think i'd stay away from the dealers if my car was there but i couldn't have it, would make me even more frustrated
-
Now, good news re WLTP for the Golf
At least its confirmed on the VW website that Golfs are now WLTP approved. https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/wltp (https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/wltp)
-
So you download the Golf brochure (4.10.18) and it still has the standard GTI on there yet they are not making them any more?! Is that just to cover stock built before 1st September that wasn't registered?
-
Now, good news re WLTP for the Golf
At least its confirmed on the VW website that Golfs are now WLTP approved. https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/wltp (https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/wltp)
But is it only some or all Golf models that have been WLTP type approved? Looking at the latest price list, in the ‘WLTP type approved’ column not all 2019 models are showing a ‘yes’. None of the performance Golfs have a ‘yes’ in the WLTP approved column.
So looks like it might be mid to late November for WLTP approval for the GTI Performance as per watchdog’s post earlier in this discussion thread;
I sent VW an email on Monday of this week asking for a latest update for my order and their email response confirmed they are expecting to be WLTP compliant for the Golf GTI, middle to late November.
-
https://www.adac.de/infotestrat/umwelt-und-innovation/abgas/modelle_mit_euro_6d_temp/default.aspx
Current ADAC list shows that the VAG Group 2.0 TSI engines as WLTP certified are Cupra Ateca 300hp, Seat Leon 190hp and 190 / 240hp Octavia's.
-
Just been informed that mine is on the ship being transported to the UK
-
I'm surprised they are shipping them without certification.
-
I'm surprised they are shipping them without certification.
Mine's the 1.5tsi petrol r-line according to the earlier post on the VW website, price list for 2019 it's passed.
-
Ah ok, sorry didn't realise it wasn't an R or a GTi incoming.
-
VW Online Chat are no longer giving out updates on orders, they say you need to contact your dealer. This is my first VW and i've been shocked by the appalling customer service from VW UK compared to Audi. It's all well having a nice myvw app if the thing actually worked but it doesn't and they admitted last week they was having problems with it.

Hey guys, I've been following this thread for a couple of days - I ordered my GTI PP here in Poland on 12th of September and got a confirmation of production in 45th week (starting 5th of November). Seems like everything is up and running again and they delay seems to be over.

Hopefully. I have a build week confirmed as week 44 and confirmation that WLTP certification will be in place by the first week December 2018 which is when i expect release of the car to the dealer.
-
Ordered GTI Performance 3 weeks ago for March 19 delivery.
Advised by dealer yesterday that it may be available in Jan.
That will bring a dilemma if it is......take or wait?
Take and it’s a 68 plate midwinter, wait and it’s a 19 in Spring but......value of trade in will have perhaps dropped £400ish in the interim.
Hmmmmmm

Thanks, did over hear that the car was built shipped and was stored at the Royal highland show ground at Ingilston and was just waiting on WLTP approval then the DVLA would register the car. Will get it next week, the spoiler has a slight colour match problem, i've just asked them to fit it. I'm playing a juggling act with that car and when i sold my XR2 i bought a mk2 escort mexico, so waiting for it to be shipped end of the month.

Depends on when it arrives. If it’s last week of jan onwards I would wait if I was you. Anything before that and it would be torture knowing the car is there and ready but you've decided to wait 2 months.
I hope I get mine within the next 4 weeks. Not a fan of it being sat in an airfield somewhere in the middle of Germany for any longer than a month through winter. I imagine it would mean the oil would have to be changed sooner than 12 months of me having it etc

Almost the exact same scenario as myself this time last year. Mine was due to be a Mar 1st 18 plate but just thought it may as well be tucked up in my garage rather then wedged in somewhere on Grimsby dock or in my Dealers compound.. I picked mine up first week of Jan so it’s still a 2018 car.
-
Thanks, you make a good point. Better being at home with me in Jan and Feb than sitting unused in a location unknown.
VW App now moved to stage 2 this week.
(I wonder if the recent dramatic drop in new car orders has solved the factory's supposed capacity issues at least on the RHD production line? My official order papers sent three weeks ago show a delivery date of 28 April 19).
-
I think the fact that VW are still building the Golf GTI PPs rather than delaying production hopefully suggests that they're not far off from getting WLTP certification. I've seen that a few engine types for other models are not being built till the start of next year

Nope, all I know so far is what my dealer told me last week - car has been built and left the factory but is being banked in Germany till WLTP engine type approval. Track my order has it as “build in progress” though. I found that the app gets stuck so you’re best off using the VW website to track it without logging in. The other day MyVW app had it as build week confirmed, whilst on the website it said build in progress, had to delete the car and add it again on the app to get it to update.
I have a feeling I’ll be stuck on build in progress till it is actually on the move and heading towards here. My dealer reckons should be here in November but it’s anyones guess at the moment!
-
Finally, today I got a text from VWUK stating I have got a confirmed build week of 49, commencing Dec 3rd. So all things considered, should be picking up January at some point, Notwithstanding WLTP issues.
-
I got same txt today, same info.
If my car is not ready to collect by late Jan, I might just wait until beginning of March to collect.
-
Incidentally, I only ordered the car on 1 October ....... (and at that time was given a March/April 2019 estimated delivery).
-
I ordered an already built PP in last week in Oct. Was told it would be here end of Nov?
-

Looks like it’s going to be January at the earliest! I’m hoping they’ve given us a worse case scenario and we get the cars sooner but I’m doubtful. If anything it will be longer with the way things have gone
-
I.m not taking a car in January. If it can.t be put back till March,it will be cancelled
-
The way things are, I doubt dealers are in a position to dictate to customers when cars will actually be taken.
They will need to complete every order they possibly can I reckon.

Waiting for delivery of Golf R and was told by my dealer that production of R started first week of November and that initially cars rolling off the production line would be stored at Berlin airport. If you are one of the "lucky" ones whose car sits at the airport then he advised to expect delivery to be delayed as VW state they are prioritising delivery of models coming directly off the line once production is fully ramped up......
-
Dealer rang me today, said they have no new info on when my car will be here. I gave him a scenario of a Jan delivery, and said l won.t be taking delivery then. No problem, he said we.ll keep it till March lst for you. Problem sorted. Also said the part ex for my trade in would stay the same. I can.t complain at that

Considering your dealer sold you a lie and told you that your car was on a ship on its way here at the end of October, I would take anything they say with a pinch of salt.
But hey ho I hope they're right it's just that this whole farce has turned me into a pessimist, especially when it comes to VW.
-
Guys, I also had the same update coming from my dealer regarding Golf GTI PP from prod. week 45. I also got a confirmation that they have been registering Golfs here in Poland since early November from WLTP certified production. They are still claiming mine (45th prod. week) is already WLTP approved and will be avaibale for delivery late nov/early dec
As this refers to Polish market with left hand drive it may be still a different ball-game for UK market cars as they need a separate homologation for every single spec.
-
True m8. But if it comes beginning of Dec, l.m happy. If it pops up mid Jan,l.m also happy, cos l won.t take it till March
-
Well it's Thursday, the day of certification for my Gti.Guess what my dealers system is down since 12, so no new info. Coincidence? I think it stinks . Not impressed at all.

In all honestly, I don’t think the dealers or VW UK have any idea when it will get approved. Only people with any sort of idea is the factory in Wolfsburg who will be doing the testing
-
No news yet again. No updates till next Thursday. What a farce.

It's like a never-ending saga for you guys waiting for cars on order.

I was also told best case scenario was first week in Jan by VW UK Customer Services about 2 weeks ago

Hi Folks,
Just reading this thread. My Build date was confirmed as 12/11/2018... No Change on the App all week to be told that the build week is a 2 week period... (according to chat rep) dealer has build week at W/C 5th, App shows beginning of the second week of the 2 week period)
So today (19th November) I deleted the car from My VW on the web, re-added it and it now states 'Build in Progress' which would indicate (as mentioned earlier in this thread) that the app gets stuck.. Dealer and chat state it is built.. no one has a clue (or will reveal) when WLTP will be complete.
I Originally ordered a GTD DSG mid May 2018, loads of options and dealer provisional date kept moving and ended up as Feb 2019. I asked if petrols were coming through any quicker and he seemed to indicated that (and to be fair they probably are) so I ordered the GTI Performance with most options (excl Leather) on 21st September.
It's more the lack of information that gets me. If they told me that WLTP was scheduled for date X then I can set my expectations. I guess if VW save a date then maybe we wouldn't be happy with then and then all of a sudden there are loads of cancelled orders.
I hope its worth the wait

I understand your frustration; but it WILL be worth the wait. 6 months / 9000miles into my GTI PP ownership, and it's proving to be an exceptionally good car in every respect. The more time I spend with it; the more I realise that.

I’m in the exact same position and took your advice and deleted my car from the app. The confusing thing is that when I added it again, not only did the app update to build in progress, the web page also updated to build in progress. I would have thought the two were independent of each other!
-
I've found the best way is to use the web page tracker but make sure you're not logged in. For some reason the app gets stuck. I've been on build in progress for the past 4 weeks though

Great 6 months ago I was looking to order and gave up, same situation now then

I ordered on 1 October and have build confirmed for w/c 3 Dec.
That’s pretty fair if true.
Mind you, I don’t expect to be offered it until late Jan19 and will take it for 1 March.
-
12 to 13 weeks is usual lead time for a factory build, sometimes they arrive a week or two early. I waited 26 weeks back in 2013 and some were even longer so the current delays aren't anything that hasn't been seen before. People just need to be patient and think to themselves it'll be worth the wait. Twisting on to vw customer services won't make your car come any quicker, harsh reality but unfortunately true.

I think that a lot of us don't mind the wait, it's the lack of clear information and customer service that is frustrating to us as we don't know when our cars will arrive. If we are selling our current cars or have leases ending etc how are we supposed to plan things when we have absolutely no idea when our new car will arrive? I was told no later than November, a 4 month wait at the time which is fair but now it could turn up in 2 weeks later or it could turn up in 10 weeks later, I have absolutely no idea. The tracker has been stuck on build in progress for me for almost 5 weeks now and we know it doesn't take longer than 2 weeks. A simple notification to let me know that the car is now built but is being held until WLTP testing is complete which is expected to be by X date would suffice.
Not trying to speed up process, just looking for clear information from VW.
-
I understand the frustration, your dealer should be doing more to reassure you that you won't lose out over the delay if they are unable to provide definitive timescales. Either by providing you with a loaner or by freezing your trade-in value.
If you currently have a lease through VWFS it is often the case that they will informally extend the lease until your new vehicle arrives as long as you can provide them with an order number for the new vehicle. It's when you have a current lease with someone else that things become difficult.
-
Hi all,
New here but seems like my order saga is just like everyone else's... Ordered a GTI Performance in early June, was originally told 16 weeks, then it's back to December but not holding my breath!
Just wanting to see it and drive it now
-
Told by my dealer today that l won.t see my car until mid Jan, as l.ve always suspected. Even though l was first told end of Nov, as the car was being built end of Oct. Asked what goodwill gesture would they be offering. Was told to ring VW UK. They did.nt want to know at all. What gesture does the forum think would be acceptable, if at all offered.

Thanks for keeping us updated, my car delivery will no doubt be the same then...mid January 2019 which is disappointing.
-
Hey Folks,
I just got off the phone with my dealer, my PP was produced on the first week of Nov and is marked as with WLTP certificated week 47th. As I live in Poland the car will be transported from Germany by land and is expected here to be ready for pick up late nov or early dec.
Keeping fingers crossed for you guys!

I got £250 of John Lewis vouchers back in 2013 but I'm certain they came from my supplying dealer and not VW UK. Free service pack if you aren't already getting one. Free rubber mats?
-
I spoke to VW Customer Services yesterday on the phone and they confirmed that my car was stock banked by the factory but has now been released for delivery, however not to expect it till the first week of Jan still.

Does this mean the car will now be shipped to the UK/Retailer for storage neepy?

VW UK will give you f**k all. Back in 2015, I had an epic 8.5 months wait for my R and chased VW UK.
The salesman honoured the fixed part-ex price for my GTD - all at a time VW were knocking out lease Rs in 3 months. VW UK strong-armed the dealership to surprise me with a free Lifeshine, despite my insistence that any gesture was to come from VW and not the dealership as it was out of their control.
I ordered a Polo GTI+ in May this year, jumping on an unallocated scheduled build. Expected at the end of July the dealership agreed I could pick it up in September on a 68 plate. Early July comes and VW drop the bombshell that all pre-WLTP VWs need to be registered no later than Aug 15th. Rang VW UK and they couldn't give a toss that they had kept me and the dealership in the dark about this requirement for registration. Argued that a late 18 plate would be worth an estimated £750 less than an early 68 plate registered just a few weeks later and they should compensate me. They basically said take the car or cancel the order and argue for the deposit back. They are incredibly arrogant towards their customers. Lucky for them that their cars are desirable otherwise they'd be screwed.
-

I’m not sure watchdog, all they said was that it has now been released for delivery but don’t expect it to be in my possession till first week in Jan. It’s possibly in that new but disused Berlin airfield that VW have rented out to store vehicles, so will take even longer to get here if so. I read somewhere that once they start shipping, the factory will ship the ones coming straight off the production line first and those have been stored will take longer, might be the case that others receive theirs before mine, if true.

I saw earlier today that my dealer posted on Facebook a photo of someone receiving a brand new Polo GTI! I didn’t think these were WLTP approved yet either? Or I haven’t seen anywhere that they’ve been approved. We could have it worse, some people ordered a Polo GTI+ in January and still don’t have build dates!
-
Can't order GTI at moment. No luck at dealer. Will quote reply from VW UK..
"At present the Golf GTI isn't available to order, but we're expecting the GTI Performance to have passed WLTP type approval and be available to order by the end of next week. A Retailer may be able to take details of an order already, although this would only go through to the factory once orders re-open for the GTI Performance."
-
That’s interesting. I was unaware they had actually stopped taking new orders altogether at the moment.
How strange, as orders placed recently should not be affected by WLTP delay which sounds like it will be resolved imminently.
I put my new order in on 1 Oct and have build week confirmed by factory as being early Dec.
I wonder when VW suspended taking new orders......anyone on here ordered more recently than me??
-
You’ve been unable to build any performance Golfs on VW website configurator for a while now so I presume orders have been closed during that time
-
Thanks. Sounds like my order just scraped in as the configuration stopped working by mid Oct as I recall.
-
I believe a load of orders were stuck in by dealers before it closed, that are now out there with customer cars awaiting signoff.
So, I expect to see a lot of 'new' cars with a tasty discount arrive next year. You'll just have to hunt for one that matches your spec.... or wait lord knows how long? I was told not to expect the forthcoming TCR till late summer once they re-open.
-
What would be a reasonable discount? Cheers
-
I.ve got 10% off my Gti P . Popped into the dealers. Still the same news , prob 3 week of Jan. When they receive the car , off comes the discs and pads and new ones going on,as it's been sitting outside for 5 weeks now. Dealer claiming from VW?
-

Seems a good offer. Plus a full tank of petrol, bottle of wine and a keyring
-
I just got a update text this morning, my order has progressed to stage 5a of 7 (in transit: left factory), anyone else had an update?
-
Hey Neepy,
Mine has been released for shipment last Friday but I still didn't get the confirmation that the car is being transported to Poland.
-
Me too Neepy. Still won.t see it till Jan l bet
-
Got my update to say car is built and is in transit. If it ain't released until Jan though I'll be waiting for a 19 plate.
-
Just had the update to 5b this morning, I believe that means it's at the Port of Emden and waiting to be assigned a ship

This is strange. Ordered on 1 Oct 18 and advised target date for delivery would be March/April 19.
VW App is currently still showing build week will be w/c 3 Dec.
Just heard from dealer that car is built and will be here in Dec !!!!!!..........
(......... but can’t register until early Jan).
Still plan to take it early March and I suspect dealer is being over optimistic just now.
But is it really built already?
-
I ordered mine 05/10/18 and was also told that it was being built w/c 3rd Dec. Received phone call today that it’s been built and in transit.
-
Apparently VAG were the worst hit in the WLTP hiccup.
Of VAG, Audi took a 22% in sales losses and VW (cars) 20%.
That's a major business hiccup. Serious problem. I guess heads will roll for that!
-
22% drop in sales from Audi and 20% from Vw. That is crazy. I suppose that makes sense bearing in mind that you can’t order every model. I had a call from Audi back in October asking if I was interested in another S3. After a few calls they realised that you couldn’t order one until January. Seems the same for the R.
Good to hear that orders are starting to get somewhere for everyone. Must be a huge relief!
-

There's another vehicle carrier from Emden > Grimsby today at 1500 so i am hoping i am on that.

I had the same this morning, also noticed on the WLTP website that the Golf GTI Performance has approval, Nov 18 .

Hi,
Ordered GTI Performance back in early October. Tracker now saying 5b (waiting to ship). Perhaps this afternoon by the sounds of it!
I’m assuming, now the wltp has been resolved.. as soon as it arrives at dealership it will be ready for collection?
Yesterday, dealer informed me of mid Feb delivery. Have they got it wrong?
Cheers.

Apparently VW have to apply for a MVRIS code for the cars which will take a few weeks to come through
-
Ahh I see. Thanks
-
What a utter shambles. You would they would have had all necessary paperwork, codes etc ready as soon as the cars passed tell. Now you have to wait longer, even when the cars in the UK?? Mind boggling

Sales guys from two dealerships telling me similar, they are turning orders away which is crazy really as either you can't order a car or the waiting list is huge, even one sales guy has been waiting for his own car since July
-
We ordered on Nov 24th, originally quoted 30 week lead time but dealer still accepted the order and placed it with the factory as we are happy to wait. However we now already have a confirmed build date of week 3 21/01/19 with delivery expected on March 1st

Received email update this morning advising car has arrived in the UK, how long from her to getting my hands on it I wonder!!

Received email update this morning advising car has arrived in the UK, how long from her to getting my hands on it I wonder!!
We'll be lucky if its this side of Christmas from what my dealer and VW have told me. Dealer says the car won't be released to them till VW have got a MVRIS code (not sure what that is), so I guess it will be banked for a little bit longer at Grismby or whichever port it arrived at 2 days ago. Whats an extra 3 weeks to the 5 months i've been waiting

Darn it, oh well. Now the decision, take it in January or wait until March??

Darn it, oh well. Now the decision, take it in January or wait until March??
I may have posted before that in my opinion, I wouldn't wait a further 3 months to take delivery of a car that was built in October, that mean's it will have been waiting around stagnate doing nothing but rusting for 6 months. For me, it's not worth the few extra hundred £ that it will be worth come trade in just to be driving around with the latest plate for 6 months before its replaced by 69. Besides, my dealer has told me they will honour the trade in value of my current car which was based on October trade in values as it is VW's fault, I can imagine the few hundred pound i'd gain going to the new plate would be offset by the revised value of my current car in March 19.
As soon as it's ready I'm having it!

Also, once it’s delivered to the dealer, if it’s sitting there for three months at the dealer’s, there’s a risk of it getting scratched / dinged, or used as target practice by the local pigeons and our other feathered friends. The dealer might even put it in the showroom as a display model, when it’ll be at the mercy of Joe Public and their kids crawling all over it.
Unless the dealer has secure indoor storage facilities that can’t be accessed by customers I’d take delivery in January.

This was my quandary this time last year. My feelings were exactly as you stated even though I know my dealer has secure indoor storage. Now a year later sitting in the background watching this tread unfold I can’t help thinking I made the right decision to take delivery early January and don’t regret it one little bit. Why prolong the agony any longer than necessary when you have waited so long !!
Get it as soon as you can. Better in your garage than theirs

Apparently mine is sitting off the coast of Grimsby. Told not to expect it till end of Dec. Ffs, it only takes 2 days from Germany. A couple of days to get to the dealer. And a day pdi. A jokethats wearing thin

There is a cut off date which your dealer can call the car from port before Christmas If I remember correctly from last year is sometime next week. After that it definitely won’t move from Grimsby to your dealer before January. If your boat gets a berth tonight it will be unloaded by morning. I would badger your dealer again to see if they can at least call it before Christmas. You never know??
Mine got called on the last day in December before the cut off and arrived at the pdi centre on the 28th Dec. Allowing for New Year holiday mine was pdi checked on the 3rd Jan and I picked up on 5th Jan
It should be a very Happy New Year (red tape permitting)

I am in a similar position albeit my car is built, but still in Germany. I have driven Audi for the last 20 years and if i am being honest i would have preferred a S3 but told by Audi in July not to expect an S3 until April 2019 hence the change to the GTI. I am really looking forward to the GTI but, the experience is being seriously hampered due to the poor communication by VWUK who are a total shambles based on my previous experiences with Audi.

Whats the official reason they give for the delay neepy?
-
I could have mine on Friday, according to my dealer. Awaiting codes, as they cannot register the car without them. You would have thought the would have sent the codes as soon as the car was released for import. Again frustrating
-
Whats the official reason they give for the delay neepy?
VW need to apply for an MVRIS (Motor Vehicle Registration Information System) code for the model, and it can take up to 3 weeks for the code to come through.
My understanding of the process is that the model needs to be WLTP approved before VW can apply for an MVRIS code and the cars can only then be registered with the DVLA till they have this code. The body which issues these MVRIS codes is separate to the DVLA. The cars have started to come through in anticipation of the codes being released and in my case my car has arrived early, before the code being in place. The same thing happened with Tiguans back in Sept/Oct, If i remember correctly those guys only had to wait a week or two. I dunno if Christmas may have an affect on the timing of things for us
-
Cheers Neepy. Dealer told me the end of this week, is usually the cut off for transportation from ports to dealers?

Cheers Neepy. Dealer told me the end of this week, is usually the cut off for transportation from ports to dealers?
I think someone mentioned further back in this thread that there was a cut off point for dealers calling off cars to be transported from the port, not sure myself.
It took my car approx 10 days from being at 5a in transit:left factory to stage 7 arrived at the dealers
-
Mine arrived at the dealership in Stockport on Friday the 7th. VW are hopeful the data to allow registration will be released this week so if (Big If) I’m lucky, might get it week commencing the 17th
I ordered it on 26th June - 5 Door GTI, PP with 7 speed DSG. Coming from driving Discoveries for the past 14 years really looking forward to it
-
I have just had an update text that my order is now at 5C. In Transit (near the UK)
What does this actually mean, near the uk? sat on a ship somewhere?
-
I think it means it’s left the factory on the way to the docks at Emden. Mine moved from 5 to 7 in about 10 days.
Interestingly, GTI Performance is now back on the on-line configurator after an abscence of some months so something has moved - hopefully the WLTP data is being released that will allow registration?
-
I have just had an update text that my order is now at 5C. In Transit (near the UK)
What does this actually mean, near the uk? sat on a ship somewhere?
5a - on the way from the factory to the port of exit
5b - at the port of exit waiting to be assigned a ship
5c - on a ship and on its way to the UK. VW and your dealer can see which ship its on you can ask them for the name and you can track it.
I went straight from 5b to 6

Did anybody notice the 6sp manual gti is 155g/km and the dsg 143g/km as far as I'm aware this means the first year tax on the manual will shoot up to £500
-
Interestingly, GTI Performance is now back on the on-line configurator after an abscence of some months so something has moved - hopefully the WLTP data is being released that will allow registration?
I think its down to the body that issues the MVRIS codes now, all we and VW can do is hope they come through asap
-
Dealership have just called - I should be able to collect next week
Fingers crossed 🤞
-
Dealer just rang, saying codes issued. Car awaiting transport to dealers. Should have car next week
-
Excellent! Will wait for my dealer to call (more like I will have to give them a nudge)

Looks that way, £205 first year for the DSG. Subsequent years at £155.
Considering I’m paying £546 PA on my current car, I’m pretty happy.
-
DSG for me as well so all good. Not as big a saving for me coming from a mk5 gti but the difference covers the increase in insurance
-
I thought it was only on cars over £40.000. That's how l got stung on my S4 17 Saloon
-
It's even more if it over £40k
-
Just looked it up. It's an extra £310 a year for 5 years if the car rrp is over £40k.
-
Aye. That's what l pay for the S4 for the next 3 years. What a f.....g disgrace
-

Those are the figures from the VW website and its not clear if they are WLTP figures or NEDC ones...
And yes, first year's road tax is based on Co2:
111 - 130 £165
131 - 150 £205
151 - 170 £515
Big jump for going sub 150 to 151... even more further up the toxic scale.
But that's just first year, after that its the same for all engines.... unless your vehicle is over 40k *list* price, in which case its an extra £310 years 2-5 *on top of* the normal rate. Its also payable on second hand cars that are less than 5 years old that originally cost more than 40k...

I was going on the presumption that the manual was under the 150 threshold before the configurator for the gti was taken offline and now it's over the threshold now it's back online.

I am sure the manual used to be 148g/km but the new WLTP tests cane manuals because of the way they test them, whereas DSG can be gamed a little (yes, we're back to manufacturers playing around for test conditions... not just for testing, but definitely setting things up for test passing).
I should think you feel a bit annoyed about that, but in theory the price you've agreed is an on the road price, so it shouldn't make you out of pocket.
Plus, the extra cost for DSG still isn't offset by the road tax savings in year one...
-
The pp is 148 according to the website so ok

Not sure about others but when i ordered in July the dealer made me sign a form about WLTP that came from VW which essentially said that due to the new testing, the official fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures at the time I ordered the car may not be the same as the actual car i receive. However should it change I could cancel or change my order free of charge.
I've ordered a DSG so doesn't affect me
-
Just checked my order form where it states road fund license (CO2 150 g/km) & First Reg. Fee £260, I didn't sign any form relating to WLTP so will be interesting to hear my dealers approach to the increase.
-
I'm waiting on a dsg so not an issue for me 😁😁😁

If you do it for the manual it says £515 at the end in the summary. Have they dropped the purple black colour as well?

Yes, purple nasty is no more

Anyone else had confirmation from their dealers that codes have been released and cars can be registered, before i go pester my dealer?

Absolutely ridiculous having to pay £515 for the first year. This government just reams us lot out, and does.nt have the good manners to use vas.

It does now say £515 for manual but the basic price of the car ( which includes VED) hasn’t changed from when I ordered in October. I’m assuming- on this basis- that VW have covered the additional cost, and the dealer won’t be asking me for more money ??

When you work out the discount do you just base it on the basic car price or is it on the total including options, delivery, tax ect ECT?
My discount including options and delivery but excluding road tax and service pack was 14.5%.

Interesting thing I've just noticed...
Manual GTI-P.... 155g/km.... I wondered if adding bigger wheels and a sunroof would change the CO2 figure... upwards..
It does change it...
Well, the wheels do... add 19's and it drops to 153g/km... I wonder if that's a glitch or actually the real VED figure?
-
Still nothing from my dealer with regards to picking the car up, will give it till the afternoon and then I'll ring up

My understanding under WLTP is that vehicles with options fitted that materiallly affect the weight of the vehicle such as larger wheels and sunroof had to be tested separately. I assumed this meant the tests would have to be run for cars specifically fitted with these options, and separate MPG / emissions figures produced. So lots of additional testing in addition to a standard, vanilla spec car for each engine/trim level, which would also help explain why it’s taken so long for WLTP testing to be completed.
Perhaps some of the Golf’s 19” wheel options with tyres fitted weigh less than a car with the standard wheels + tyres? (I believe 19” Pretoria alloys weigh less than the standard 18” Cadiz alloys on the R). If so, that could explain the lower CO2 figure with 19” wheels.
-
Just had a call from the dealer, car will be ready Saturday for collection, Happy Christmas to me!!
-
So I've just got off the phone with my dealer. He confirmed all wltp documents are cleared and my car would be ready for collection within a couple of week due to it still been sat on the dockside. They even emailed me the reg number which ive told them to hold off on for a bit as I'm still unsure wether to take it shared of my planned 1st March delivery.
-
Not sure what to believe at the moment, my dealer just told me VW are still saying first week of January that they can be registered. I'm going looking at it at the weekend anyway so i'll try to hold fire till then

This wont be anything to suit the retailer will it? End of year / 2018 figures etc!!!

You'd think they'd want the cars off their forecourt and money in ASAP considering the slump in sales they've experienced since September. I'm not sure but there is more than one person here who have had phone calls from their dealers saying cars will be ready for collection before Christmas.
Spoke to Lie Chat and they said the information they have is January for registering. Who do we believe? I guess we'll find out when people start uploading pictures of their shiny new motors

Yes, I thought so too. In fact thats why a SEAT I believe dropped options altogether...
And that is why I tested adding a sunroof and 19's...
Sunroof - no effect.
19's - a positive effect.
Yes it could be weight (both 19 options though yield the same result and I'm sure they BOTH aren't lighter than parkers...) but I thought it was actually more than just dead weight that effected it....

My car must be parked up next to yours at Grimsby Deano, been told exactly the same.
-
I was also told(Monday) mine would be at the dealers tomorrow . Then the goal posts get moved AGAIN. No wonder people get frustrated
-
I suspect mine will be at Grimsby aswell given I'm in west York's. I even got an email this morning with my reg number on it lol.
-
I.m in Northumberland, so you think it would have come into Port of Tyne? Too easy. When did you order yours?
-
What really annoys me is when I phone my dealer to find out what is going on, but the salesman is with a customer, but he will phone you as soon as he is free......2 hours later.....nothing.

You.ve got the same salesmen as me then m8 ha ha

If l don.t get mine before the 24th, it will have to be Jan 2nd or 3rd, due to work/ grandchildren duties. I.ll be telling him not to register it till Jan. That.ll be their targets bolloxed

Nice spec - but I’m guessing the VW discount is based on a PCP deal.

Just watched a video on YouTube about the gti cold start after wltp.. I’m assuming nothing has changed mechanically just emissions adjusted right?

Ah thanks, is this likely to quieten the exhaust note?
-
I hope this doesn't affect the exhaust note. They are quiet anyway, and I hope they don't bring the same issues as DPFs have seen.

Shame.. that has just put me off ordering a new Golf

Nearly all petrols will have gpf's from other manufacturers too.

Shouldn’t have the problems a DPF does, I believe there is no need for regen as petrol engines get much hotter a lot quicker than diesels!

Dealer told me today my car arriving there on Wed at the latest. Should be driving away Friday or earlier
-
Just been to have a look at mine, looks amazing and sitting in it made me realise the 6 months I have waited will be worth it once I can drive it away. It had a reg plate and everything on it but Dealers still saying they’re waiting for a code to come through. Only annoying bit is the brake discs are already starting to go a rusty colour

You any nearer with the car neepy?
Unfortunately not! Will ring the dealer tomorrow. Unless the codes are per car and mine hasn’t been applied for yet or come through, I’m struggling to understand why I’m being told January still, yet others are collecting theirs. 🤔 I’m led to believe it’s VW UK who apply for the code not the dealer
-
Spoke to VW directly about the codes since its something they apply for and not the dealers. Apparently its a code per car and it's issued once its confirmed there are no faults or recalls on the car or something along those lines. Car now been sat at the dealers for 10 days and counting......

It really is laughable how totally incompetent they are. Every time i make contact with VWUK, they tell me to speak to my retailer, i then speak my retailer and he tells me he is waiting for codes from VWUK.

Picking my car up on Thursday evening - ordered 29/05.
-
Another dealer not too far away has had a couple of GTIs delivered and they are available for collection straightaway, wonder if they'll match my current deal
-
Finally the wait is over! Can start to get excited now, I'm collecting on Saturday

Hey Guys,
I wanted to share my sad story - my GTI PP was built in the 44th week of this year. As of 30th of November, I was told that the car is WLTP certified and is released for transport. Unfortunately, until today the car is still sitting in WOB factory with no indication when it will be transported. What is more interesting other Golf's started appearing in the dealerships around Poland.
Has anyone faced a similar situation with the car being stuck for transport? What is even funnier is that the logistics are much easier for us as they only need to put the car on the train directly to Poland with no sea transport involved.
My dealer has no clue what is going on. I am giving my current car to the leasing company on the 11th of Jan and the only gesture of god will from the dealership is that they will guarantee a free of charge rental until my car is delivered.

DSG fart been missing all of 2018 so I don’t think a stricter emissions test was going to make it return!!

After being banked at the factory for 1,5 months mine has finally arrived and I picked it up last Friday. So far did 1000kilometers and I am super happy with the choice
I wasn't fully convinced with my colour choice until it arrived, it looks awesome, especially after ceramic coating (1 photo, 2nd is just after the pickup last Fri).
