I'm not sold on them Asker ?? Maybe if I see them in flesh ? :undecided: delivery times ??
Since you love your monzas so much seems a shame to spoil them with winter salt and maybe cause white worm. So i would use these for winter myself if i was such a monza lover.

Wheels look good... but why are you getting the tyres from France - and how much are they?
Is it because Winter tyres are pretty much out of stock everywhere here just now?
Great alloys asker... They will defiantly suit a red car. Make sure you take some pic's for the team.
^You need to update your signature
Asker
Very nice indeed, look forward to some pics, enjoy.
Lovely wheels but £250 a tyre?!?!
I know you want the best for your car but it seems like so much overkill. You have said on numerous times that London gets very little snow and you never get over 5Mph going to work and that is on the dry days! Can't help thinking you are spending a helluva lot for little use but your cash at the end of the day.
Car will look great though with those wheels.
Nice one.
As I said before you should have done a bulk order and made a fortune
:sick:Nice one.

Northway Tyres, whom I am using, are part of the Kwikfit Group though they keep this quiet for obvious reasons.
Unfortunately, they have run very dry so this business venture will have to wait until next year. Maybe we could pool resources?
Am quite excited by my purchase, but feel a bit sick at the overall cost which will be close to £1500 all in. :embarassed:
Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound.
I think the Xenons will now have to wait and wait.
And I thought £600 was bad!!
Anyway, what price your safety and peace of mind?
Remember also the cost is spread over several winters.
Enjoy
Xenons or winter tyres - no contest.
Nice one.

Try a Kwik Fit depot. I'm sure they were advertising a tyre storage service for £45 a year. Maybe you had to get the tyres off them though
Find somewhere in work
Thanks for the thumbs up Exonian!Sold the Bridgestones for £150 for the set. Hate them. Sh1t i would have had them and put up with the racket for that price eek. You give them away.

They don't keep them on site though, they have a central storage depot somewhere, that's why they need a few days notice when refitting the summers.

Nooo. Not possible. It is a hospital and my office or clinic room can't be filled with wheels and tyres!
What do you do btw?Find somewhere in work :wink:Nooo. Not possible. It is a hospital and my office or clinic room can't be filled with wheels and tyres!
My logic behind spending £1400 is that my Talladegas cost £850 EACH from VW.
If I'm to slide into a kerb in the snow, I'd much rather do it in my £100 winter wheel!
Plus I'll feel much safer out on the roads... and possibly get to go snowboarding more since my car should be able to get to the hills without getting stuck!
Ami: Did they store your summer tyres?
Made room at home just now. What a drama. Just for wheels. So I'll store the Monza Shadows. I've already sold the Bridgestones.
What a relief.
Or why or why did I join a forum. Running out of room, money (well not for a few years ) and sense.

What would you do without me. I'm visiting you in the summer. That's a promise. :smiley:And more mad.
My Michelin PA3s are now £318 on the mytyres site! Mad, mad, mad!
Asker, buys himself £1500 Christmas present, I buy myself something less expensive  North south divide

I paid £143 last month and have now seen the same for £220 each (if they have them at all that is).

Tyres on their way in two parcels! Yeppie!
Still cost me less than half :tongue:Asker, buys himself £1500 Christmas present, I buy myself something less expensive  North south divide :grin:It was either that or a crashed car. You've also got winters so don't you make me feel bad as it's not fair.
I like.
For storage I've got a couple of these, one for the GTI and one for the wifes summers and alloys:
http://www.reifen.com/de/accessory/ShowTyreStand
On the other thread I was going to point squirellGTi at this site as they have stock of winters at decent prices, when you factor in the exchange rate

I was about to translate this for you (honest), then I noticed the Union Jack link to translate into English, couldn't be bothered reading it all though. Typical German efficiency.

God I can be so dim sometimes  I never noticed the Union Jack, thanks for that link I've now ordered one of these and it should be ideal for storage of my summer tyres.
It is so nice to be bi especially with Germans. :grin:Ich verstehe das nicht..

Quick question to Gizzy.
Are your Contis quieter than the Bridgestones?

That will be interesting to hear as most winter tyre reports I have read state they are a lot louder on normal roads compared to summer tyres due to the tread.

When?
Rolfe: The Hankook Icebear 300 are very good winter tyres and very, very quiet from what I have been told and cnow onfirmed by you.
Have been reading some interesting reviews and tests in North American rags regarding the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s.
They are considered to be in-between an all-season and cold weather tyre. They tested them as V rated. Mine are W rated. They are excellent for handling and grip on dry and wet pavements and effective all year round except for those odd very hot days when temperatures go above 25 deg C. They are effective in light snow conditions but not in heavy snow situations and thick ice. They are considered to be THE high performance cold weather tyre.
So they seem appropriate for the weather conditions in London.
I'll report my findings as soon as I have them fitted. I might also be the first to have bought these on this forum.
Can't wait!
I have now read that Bridgestone have brought out an all weather tyre the A100.
Supposed to be fine on snow, ice wet and obviously a decent summer set up, guess might be the way for some of you to go if you didn't want two sets of tyres.
More than happy with mine and being as it has snowed all morning and we now have 4 inches of lying fresh snow will no doubt be putting them to good use in the next few days.

Hello!
To late for me. Done all my spending. More wheels and tyres that I can cope with!
Asker.
And I'm sure you will be delighted with your choices. MERRY CHRISTMAS :smiley:I have now read that Bridgestone have brought out an all weather tyre the A100.Hello!

The vredestein are quieter than the BRIDGESTONES
Winter tyres in general are often more noisy.
Yes, its why i know what make my summers will be when i ware the bridgestones out or go mad and buy some 18s.The vredestein are quieter than the BRIDGESTONES

Which means you consider your summers to be noisier than your winters?
Merry Christmas Geoff.
Hope you have a wonderful time and thanks for all your help and support.

I now have a set of VW golf 16" alloys for winter use that i will be fitting with tyres for next year.
Winter tyres prices have gone crazy  So how much were these tyres you have got Asker before prices went crazy?
Good grief! My Hankook Icebears were £120 a corner, ordered and fitted (just) before the snow hit.
I know some have said they're not a "premium brand", but heck, the car in running like it grew caterpillar tracks.
Rolfe.
You have a complex life, there's space in my garage if need it
Hope your toe recovers quickly

Many thanks for the offer.
My life is quite simple but I have a habit of buying too many things without forethought and end up with problems of similar complexity. I'll work something out, no doubt.
As for the toe, it's hanging and I'll have to tape it to the next one. Very painful.
I don't know how I'm going to take the three grand kids shopping tomorrow. We are supposed to go out for the day.

Well, she is fed-up with the Merc 350 CDI Sport Auto on Continentals slipping and sliding around. Wishes she had bought a FWD car or a 4WD like the R. The previous Alfa 164 gas guzzler had 4WD and there were on issues with it. We are buying winter tyres for the Merc today, the same ones as mine!
I suggested a foot up her and she is seriously thinking about it. NOT!
Winter tyres is a must, i found that out last winter and the vredys are still doing me proud

Did you make your tyre rack or is it available off the shelf?
Liking the tyre rack you wheel whore you
Wow  that is one super tidy garage. Loving that tyre rack. By the way how many alloys does one man need?
Thought so. I think i need to build myself one

Custom made to fit - a mate is a welder!
I'm having another two rows added to the bottom...it's in fabrication now.
am1w, you have to tape the toe. Rolfe.
If you ever fancy selling your 19" VW Racing wheels Ess_Three drop me a PM, tried to buy some a while back but not available now.
Wow  that is one super tidy garage. Loving that tyre rack. By the way how many alloys does one man need?
Why thank you...
In answer to your question...
4 x 8.5"x19" VW Racing wheels with 225/35/19 tyres.
4 x 8.5"x19" VW Racing wheels spare.
4 x 8.0"x18" BBS CH025 wheels with 225/40/18 winter tyres.
4 x 8.0"x18" BBS CH025 wheels spare.
4 x 7.5x18" VW Monza Shadows with 225/40/18 tyres.
Obviously, one set of tyred wheels will be on the car.
Then theres:
4 x 7"x16" BBS RXIIs with Toyo T1Rs on.
8 x 7"x16" BBS RXIIs spare.
4 x 7"x16" BBS RXIIs with Toyo T1-S on, on my old Mk3.
Then there's an odd 6.5"x16" BBS RXII.
An odd space saver from the Mk3
4 x 6"x15" New Fabia wheels and tyres (actually mothers, whilst she has her winter wheels/tyres on)
And soon, 4 x 6.5"x16" with winter tyres OR 7"x17" VW Classix with summer tyres on, from my old mans Mk5 TDI170.
I think there's an odd Audi A2 wheel up in the garage loft too...
Hmm...that's it. I think.
The last time I saw these pictures I turned green with envy and then turned even greener as I threw up in shock!
Still can't get my head around this and still as envious as hell! But as it is Ess_Three, I don't mind.

As you say its the price of steel. Making/welding it is not a problem as i design welding machines for a living :wink:Thought so. I think i need to build myself one
I did the drawings and my mate built it. Steel prices have gone up lately, but you should still be able to have something like that made for £200 ish.
I'm having a lower sectionm done to hold bare wheels, leaving the upper sections for wheels/tyres.
I doubt I'll get all my wheels on it...but I'll be close.
My pirelli zero M&S are not "stretched" but are they are WAY quieter than the bridgestones on my Golf.
Mine should be worn out come March as I travel 80 miles a day minimum. I'll be going for conti's or michie's
Mine should be worn out come March as I travel 80 miles a day minimum. I'll be going for conti's or michie's :wink:Michelins PS3s are brilliant with excellent rim protection.
The Conti 3s are to be replaced in Jan '11 by Conti 5s. The Contis don't have effective rim protection, which is a must with 18" wheels. The ContiSportContact 3s on the Merc now look the worse for wear after 5k miles and those are the front ones! Madam has also kerbed both front AMG alloys beautifully.
Definitely good rim protection would have helped.
If the 5s are anything like the 3s for rim protection, I'll buy Michelin PS3s. Hence my signature.

Since owning my Golf, I've pranged the front (scratched front bumper, damaged grille and dented the bonnet) in a 2 mph impact and then done the rear bumper in a 0.5 mph impact.
I do drive slowly and carefully but sometimes things get in the way and don't move in synchrony. Not my fault.

Looking forward to seeing some wheel action then on saturday
I believe it is when moisture gets underneath the lacquer and begins to corrode the alloy, usually where the wheel has been chipped by stones etc. Just ruins the look of the wheels completed and as they are a bit more specialist as a refurb they should be preserved at all cost.
Take the Monzas off, put them in boxes and ignore them until you sell the car.
They are a stupidly finished wheel that I would have hoped would never be produced again, with VWs reputation for corroding diamond cut wheels...it's been happening since the Mk2.
Run the VMRs all year...they look better anyway.
I was considering putting them in the VMR boxes.
But I do love the looks of the Monza Shadows.
Tyres just been delivered.
The fun begins!
Im glad your rim is protected
Oh, one last bit of info. and I'll stop until next week!:wink:
The Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s have really solid and super rim protection. So pleased.
I usually tack on as much as possible
Are there any members of the forum near to you who would store your wheels? Seems a shame to get rid of them after the hassle of getting them. Plus you don't want to ruin your Monzas. :smiley:I thought that, i'm sure i remember someone on here offering to store them, from reading some of your posts asker £120 is nout!
