Right. Saturday the 8th January it is for my winters to be attached, but to which wheel?

I am, to put it mildly, in a bit of a wheel quandary.

Do I fit the winters to the VMRs and allow the very expensive Monzas to be stored, with or without tyres on a rack at the fitters (worry, worry), or do I fit the winters to the Monzas whence I can always keep an eye on the darlings. I have decided I don't want to store wheels at home or carry anything heavy due to my delicate shoulder which has just about healed after nine months of pain and discomfort.

Maybe it is not such a good idea to have two sets of wheels, or is it? As far as two sets of tyres, I am happy with this.

Advice please, but please don't tease or ridicule.

Stick them on the VMRs or you will regret it when white worm starts on the monzas

Definately agree with that put them on your new wheels, wish I had a second set of wheels so I could keep my Monza's pristine.

I hear you both and will listen.

I have seen this white worm in pictures, but what is it actually?

I believe it is when moisture gets underneath the lacquer and begins to corrode the alloy, usually where the wheel has been chipped by stones etc.  Just ruins the look of the wheels completed and as they are a bit more specialist as a refurb they should be preserved at all cost.

That's why I bought the VMRs. The four of them cost £60 less than a single Monza Shadow!
Maybe, I did right in retrospect.

I think Robin added in my explanation of white worm.

Your asking laq to stick to a non keyed surface. So the contact will give same as paint to a non keyed surface does. Stone chips, tyre changes etc all upset the bond. Winter with wheels stuck in salt covered snow does not help either. Think of the shock of the cold to then heat from brakes in winter how the differences of material expand and contract. etc.
White worm is simply the laq lifted off the surface. Constant dampness, heat/cold and freezing just makes it spread.

Take the Monzas off, put them in boxes and ignore them until you sell the car.
They are a stupidly finished wheel that I would have hoped would never be produced again, with VWs reputation for corroding diamond cut wheels...it's been happening since the Mk2.

Run the VMRs all year...they look better anyway.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

I was considering putting them in the VMR boxes.
But I do love the looks of the Monza Shadows.
