Very true!! It was supposed to be a limited run of 1500 and ended up being in excess of 2300 (UK only!)

still no BW :sad: - 1 month after ordering...OK, I said I wanted delivery 1st march but i thought the dealer might have confirmed the order by now...
I would not worry too much about not having a build week yet. I had a few provisional ones that kept moving then VW in there wisdom redid them again and im back on the waiting list. You just have to love those Germans at the factory. :grin:
True - we get too hung up about unconfirmed build weeks. VW only confirm the build week 3 weeks before its due to be built.VW Customer service and my dealer both said 4 to 5 weeks from the build week is when its normally confirmed, but thats when its running smooth :grin: so not now :grin:

My dealer stated def will be March, and could have the car in late Feb (and therefore miss the VAT rise but sod that!), but reading the posts, guessing what day in March lol! Think I'll call my dealer tomorrow to check up (they've called me a few times but trying to sell me new brake pads for current golf).
Had a weid day, spotted a new GTI mk6 in black - very nice. Then pulled up next to a non-gti MK6 in a car park later in the evening. Looked very nice inside with the white lit dash, much better than the blue. Roll on next year!

my mk6 is at the dealers today - they are debadging it ( or atleast i've asked them 4 times to do it so I expect the badges to be there when I collect ).
Just had my road angel removed from the mk5 and need to empty all the crap out..
Collection of the mk6 is 10am on 23rd..then straight to the local ICE centre for hardwiring of the road angel...

I spoke to mine a few weeks back about the delays as listed on here.
They mentioned that it was currently looking like a couple of weeks later than the start of March at the moment, and it did not have a build week. However they seem to think that the backlog will be cleared and my build week will be around the same time, end of Feb, for March delivery as stated.
We will wait and see.

Well I queried my order for my GTD today and guess what the dealer hasn't even ordered it yet. He gave me some bull about they haven't be allocated any slots for GTDs since I ordered it on the 29/10/09. Likely hood of getting in March ZERO. Likely hood of getting it this year (2010) maybe. I am absolutly mad. asked about the VAT told no way I am getting it at 15%. What about my trade in price, well we will have to revisit that.
Currently on hold with VW customer service 28mins and counting. Fury building.

I was talking to someone at VWcs yesterday and they said week 05 cars were been confirmed this past week on Tuesday and Thursday and next week they expect week 6 cars to be and so on.
My BW10 obviously wasn't confirmed, as its moved to BW09 now :smiley:
The dealer said I should get it mid / end of March. I hope it moves back to a BW07 or 08 so that I can get it the second week in March (I'm on holiday the 1st week!)

I had an unconfirmed build week of 9. It then moved to 12 and has now moved to 20 !!
The dealer says it's common for the unconfirmed build weeks to move around and they seem to change almost weekly. anyone else been told this ?
To my knowlefge my order still hasn't even been ordered since I placed it in October - no allocations. It annoys me how others can order cars and even get them before mine can even be put in the queue that is just worng. :cry: March/April/May pah try August/September/October.

Just phoned the dealer there to see if I could add a sunroof , not a problem as the car is marked down as factory order with no build date confirmed
All he said was that its loged as factory order. However he did say he was 75% sure the order would not be moved back by adding the sunroof , what ever that means ?I did exactly the same as you mate, I added the same option too :wink: . Basically adding an option if theres a shortage of it or say it has to go on a slightly different line to be assembled as the cars are grouped in batches it may move the build week back a small amount in other words delay it. Mine did not. It does not meen your car is not ordered it simply meens the car is not locked for production which basically meens they have not started picking the parts for it. If its down as factory ordered its ordered from the factory by vwuk and is in the que, factory ordered meens its in one of two states, Its either a) waiting for a provisional build slot, b)has a build slot provisionally and is slowly working its way along to the top of the list until it gets locked/confirmed about 4 to 5 weeks before the build week date.
Like anyone I want to drive the car as soon as possible , however I will be quite happy to even get the car in June ready for the summer driving.
Hello everyoneIf I am healthy enough I would love to drive a GTI when I am 67 so I take my hat off to you.
This my first posting and regarding delivery dates I can empathise with every one despairing at the long wait for their cars. I ordered a GTI 5door tornado red, only option cruise control as I have it on my mk5 GTI and use it all the time. Order placed 12th september09, told around 6 months which Ithought then was a heck of a long wait.
Last week informed delivery now late April.
Incidentally am I one of the oldest GTI owners, I'm 67?

Obviously BW02 was a complete fantasy, Now Build Week 8, which I think is next week, delivery some time March, yay............6 month wait will be complete if so! :tongue:
Hurrah!!!! Called my dealer for an update, he got my file out and confirmed the car BW had been confirmed to BW10. Delivery is expected late march \ first week April!!! wahoooooooo!!!!!!! Updated my entry...
My build week of 08, ie this week, is also confirmed, plus I have had formal confirmation that production is underway. ETA second week in March

Next dilemma is choosing the right tyers ? Normally I go for Michelin but im now not sure. Living in central Scotland a tyre that is good in the wet is important. Any recommendations out there.
Put those Monza shadows back on the order I will buy them off you for what they cost as an option.

Mine did exactly the same, confirmed BW07. In fact I was in the dealers on Monday arranging Gap / Lifeshine, and on Dialog it was showing still BW07 confirmed. Phone call yesterday revealed that it was built and awaiting a VIN number.

I was told by VWcs that I should get a car after 20 weeks of waiting. My dealer investigated and told me it was 20 weeks late. Today I had a call from one of the heads of VW UK regarding several letters of complaint I have written - including one about how incompetent their CW staff were. He apologised a lot and told me the same as my dealer - that courtesy cars were offered after 20 weeks late - otherwise they'd lose a fortune handing cars out left right and centre since their build times were so slow at the moment.I guess they have changed the rules as it sounds like we were dealing with the same department. I have had two case handlers so far :sad: In the August thread a few have got the hire cars. :wink:
He said if it was any consolation that he had to wait 6 months for his wifes car, so there is no employee preferential treatment for build times! :laugh:

Rang dealer today, and they couldn't tell me when it would even be shipped, excuse given was the bad weather, as they have to clear all the snow from the cars :sad:Join the club mate, Quite a few of us August orders have suffered badly, and not been treated that well imo.

Well, had a call from the dealer today and am a bit gutted. I placed an order for a white 5 door DSG GTI on 31st Dec. Was originally told mid-March, then April and have just been told it is going to be June or July at the earliest! :sad:
I'm going into speak to them later this week but I'm not waiting that long - especially with a depreciating trade in - think I'll cancel and get something else. Best of luck to those who are waiting though!
...Yes I hope that they aren't rushing them out just to get the orders completed. i pray not to find bits of the dashboard coming off under acceleration, or more worse the wheels coming off because they weren't bolted on properly, or the engine catching fire or the radio being stuck on talkSport or some crap.
Hope the quality of the cars are not a reflection on VWs abilities of production foibles.
I am slightly dreading the day when I get my car.
I would be more worried about paint finish from what i have been reading, especially on the bumper edges.damn never thought of that.... and i'm getting candy white, which is supposed to be the worst colour right? :cry: i've waited this long. in fact if you count the time i've been seriously 'thinking' about getting a GTI it's probably about 2 years, a few more weeks won't matter if the car ends up being perfect.

Hi Guys,Build weeks move all over so yes it may mov forward.
I just cant work out VW's schedule - I ordered on 31st December and found out yesterday I have a locked BW20 which is delivery in early June. Some of the orders on here are only two weeks earlier, yet the cars are scheduled for April. I'm not jealous - really :evil:
I thought about cancelling, but I am consoling myself that it will be worth it so will probably wait. Anyone heard of a BW being moved forward?

I orginally ordered from Ingram in Ayr and then cancelled on 22nd Dec as they couldn't get my order on the VW system before the end of the year. I then ordered via my Fleet Dept who use Stock-on-Trent VW. I was at Build week 18 unconfirmed at the beginning of last week but someone cancelled and my Car got moved into that slot and built last week. So i was lucky that it's not been too long await (although as i said i did order in october orginally !)Yes but it will be well worth it. Oh to zip along some twisty B road. Keep us up dated on your first drive and photos would be good aslo.

Fanters - mine was BW 8 and it's still at the port in Emden - if your car is BW 10 and is already on the ship, there can't be much order at the port - I do hope for your sake that your car is on its way over but I'd have some questions if it is... :shocked:Ports, how much the dealer jumps up and down, secret handshakes :grin:
Just thought I'd add that I just spoke to my dealer and my car is still unconfirmed, even though serveral before and after my order date have all gone confirmed. The dealer said they are aware of this sort of thing happening and are pressuring manufacturing... we'll see....... :(It's great if you deal with a good salesmen , think I can count with one finger a good salesmen I have met in buying cars over the past 30 years. They tell you what you want to hear but in the most part it's not backed up with facts. I keep asking the salesman I am dealing with if he can look up my build date. All I ever get is on course for mid April. To be honest I am not bothering too much as long as I have it for June. However I work abroad doing five weeks away five weeks home and would dearly love to be home to pick up our car from the showroom. Our last two cars have been picked up by my wife while I was away.

I've now had a message to say that my provisional build week is 19. I want to understand what's holding mine up SO much compared to others aroudn me in the list. My options are Shadow Blue metallic paint, front and rear parking sensors, RCD510 with Dynaudio, Winter Pack and DAB Radio. I'm thinking that DAB radio is the only thing I've not seen many others spec'ing, who else has ordered it? As far as I know, the DAB radio option is actually a different headunit, ie it's built into the headunit rather than an add on now. So maybe thats it?

enjoying the new car? I wasn't brave enough to get the car in candy white - gone for the safer carbon grey - it's an age thing....43 - if I was having a full-on mid-life crisis, I'd have wanted it in bright yellow!
thnx, Davie - OEM? Haven't gone for Xenons but am happy I have ordered RCD 510 with Dynaudio - the punters seem to like the system.
Enjoy...
Only thing i dont like is that fact that the xenon bulbs are on as the DRL's. Tried turning them off but it doesn't seem to work for xenons.

I've asked them to find out exactly what part it is that is delaying my car, and they are going to come back to me within about 48 hours with that info so I can see if removing an option might speed things up. But I'm not holding my breath.
I was told however about the 20 week = hire car thing (offered the information rather than asking about it) and it was suggested that process was instigated when 20 weeks is reached.

Last time I asked [~ 2weeks back] any delay was due to 'multi-function steering wheels' - but we've heard that before.
I'm kind of in the Snoopy-esque resigned to whatever will happen situation right now.

Hi Captain,
I don't think the steering wheels were faulty, just a shortage. I've heard this from a LOT of places, so I'm inclined to believe it. Plus, it's only the multifunction steering wheel that was in short supply and since that's a standard part on the GTi, all GTi's were held up. I'm not sure if its the same wheel with just a different badge in the GTD though....
As for allocations, my car is coming from Ridgeway, I thought they were reasonably large, maybe I'm wrong?

Picked up my car today well worth the wait! :grin:
Slight downer in that one of my Monzas was marked but dealer agreed to replace with no argument so no problem!
Got some free GTI mats which was a bonus!

Dealer called Sat afternoon and advised that the car will be ready for collection either late next week but can't tell me when until the car comes in.
On Monday will see if I can take a day off to pick up the car, however I've got a quick question regarding tax and insurance.....
Like the other new cars I've had in the past they need insurance docs for the dealer to tax the car so therefore need the insurance doc in advance.
Why do they need to do that - can't they use their own insurance to tax the car?

Only thing i dont like is that fact that the xenon bulbs are on as the DRL's. Tried turning them off but it doesn't seem to work for xenons.
I think you can turn them off with vagcom coding. I'm sure I read that on the Ross-Tech site, but I can double check. Where about are you Davie?

Hi james, i totally agree and have always looked at aftermarket rather than factory fitted. The way i look at it, if you were to fit everything yourself, you could probably get a better system for the mone. However if you were getting an audio shop to fit it, then i doubt you could match the quality for the money, IMO Hope you enjoy it
You won't have to worry Dave as Dynaudio are a serious speaker maker from Denmark. You can only buy Dynaudio speakers from specialist Hi Fi dealers selling equipment like Linn , Niam ,ARCAM and the like. Will be far superior to boss that's for sure. I heard them in a Volvo and they sounded amazing. This from a man who plays Vinyl through a full Linn hi fi,

I mostly play Vinyl through my Pink Triangle, SME Series V, Meridian, Proac System. All heavily modified with silver wiring! Even my CD player has been heavily modified and really sounds high end and quite superb.
I really regret that I did not order a Dynaudio System The standard one is OK but not good enough to listen to my Mahler, Brahms, Wagner, Bruckner etc, etc. Stupid penny pinching is to blame.
Unfortunately, I will have to sort this out at some later stage.

Apparently the Scottish dealers get their cars sent to Tyne port. They must be waiting until they have a boat full until it ships. Mine was BW11 and has been 'awaiting shipment' for 20 days now :sick:

Has anyone in Scotland / North England had an update telling them whether their car has actually shipped yet?Dealer phoned the wife today, Arnold Clark Greenock asking what tiers I want on the Visions as they can't get the tiers I wanted. Goodyear F's. Wife phones around a few tyer dealers and it seems to be the case.
I spoke to my dealer yesterday who said I was still 'awaiting shipment' - but it wouldn't be updated as it was a bank holiday weekend. It seems odd that there is no way of them knowing when its going to ship.
VW system updates are normally tuesdays and thursdays.

If its been sitting at the docks for 15 days iirc you can get the dealer to request a priority status on your car and that makes sure its on the next boat.

Are you in Scotland / Northern England too? It seems the other boats are shipping frequently - just the one into Tyne port thats not going. It was 3 weeks ago tomorrow (Wed 7th) that my cars status changed from confirmed build to awaiting shipment. For some bizarre reason I believed the dealer when he said it might be earlier than expected. Instead its not moved for 3 weeks and is going to be later than expected!

I'm a bit behind the 8-ball on this forum however to add my 2 penny worth, ordered 30th Sept 09, dely quoted End Jan 2010, dely confirmed week 9, production commenced 1st week Feb and finally delivered 9th April 2010!man that is just so unfortunate. i don't know how i would cope. i hope you can get something sorted out.
Oh and did I mention nicked 11th April! So I guess that's another 6 months I'll have to wait.

Just a quick update. Picked up my red 5 door GTI yesterday. Everything seems ok. Dealer threw in 3 years free servicing for the long wait of 7 months and also a voucher for £205 for a portrait session with Venture photography studios, so I'm very pleased. Also no price increase or extra car tax.

DDRFan:Afraid not sir. It's just a sh1++y basic model, i only specced the 2 options of the monzas and the luggage pack. i did ask the dealer about it because i was half considering adding it, but the dealer was quite honest and said it probably wasn't worth it. i've read various reviews and members on here describing ACC ranging from the "can't really notice the difference" and "sport is mega stiff, only use it on trackdays!" As i've never really experienced the difference of the Sport and Comfort modes, perhaps just being oblivous is best. i'm certainly happy with the way it drives now.

Hi DDRFan:i can see how that would make sense if the roads you regularly drive on are rubbish. round where i live there is a section of road that wasn't the best condition, but after all the snow this winter, these massive holes have appeared. i've now memorised exactly where the holes are and try to avoid them, but if traffic is coming the other way there isn't a lot i can do, i just try driving over the bit that has the least depth, and i just hear a 'judder-judder' as the front wheels go over, then the rear ones. though the ride isn't too uncomfortable for me with no ACC. i'm not sure what would happen if i was giving a ride to any elderly relatives :undecided:

However, as I commute on some of the worst roads in the Central London area (and therefore the UK), I ordered it.
I must say I use it all the time. However, the steering response is a bit slower, so I tend to drive in a more sedate manner! It is turning me into a very responsible driver! :smiley:
a couple other things i forgot to mention whilst picking up the car, the dealer advised me that they had a) absorbed increased road-tax and b) absorbed the "showroom tax" . i admit i had not really been keeping up with these things, i had heard of these new phantom additions to the price of a new car but i never bothered to ask what additional cost i would pay. overall i've only had to pay the additional 2.5% VAT. i think i've been quite fortunate they haven't just added on charges.
i'm quite lame when it comes to driving a hard bargain. i suppose i could have tried a bit harder. i did manage to get my dealer to drop down the price of GAP insurance (which i know is expensive compared with others) after i had a bit of a moan with the wait (this was around Jan i think) and the dealer apparently has given me a tiny bit more on the part-ex than what they would typically give. i could drive a harder bargain, but i get the feeling deep down the dealer could have quite easily not budged on anything and he could keep the car as stock and sell it to some other lucky sucker for full whack. so i just kept quiet mostly...
You didn't try hard enough... my dealer paid the showroom tax, 1 years road tax and paid the extra 2.5% VAT increase :tongue:
I also got a 'full' tank of fuel... but I think they have a nack of making it look full without filling it. Normally cars go for about 50 miles before the needle moves - mine moved after about 5 miles! I think they must know how much it takes to just make the needle sit at the top :laugh:
another thing i noticed this evening is that i can see my feet in the dark! obviously it's the illuminated footwell. I never realised it came standard. kinda cool, but i can't really see if this has any practical use. i suppose if i was giving my hypothetical girlfriend i ride home and i had a leg fetish i could sneak a look.

You might be right. I'm based in South East, so i guess it went to Portsmouth?.....
... Normally cars go for about 50 miles before the needle moves - mine moved after about 5 miles! I think they must know how much it takes to just make the needle sit at the top :laugh:
I noticed my red light come on about 2 miles before I went to the petrol station... and when it came on I had only 20 miles remaining! The gauge looked like it still had plenty though!
