Just a quick update. Picked up my red 5 door GTI yesterday. Everything seems ok. Dealer threw in 3 years free servicing for the long wait of 7 months and also a voucher for £205 for a portrait session with Venture photography studios, so I'm very pleased. Also no price increase or extra car tax.

candy white, 5 doors, manual, with monza shadows and luggage pack

Collected it today. Said byebye to my old car and hello to the new one. showroom shine. polished alloys. I forgot how awesome the old-skool style tartan seats look. The smell of a new car. 7 miles on the clock. just w00t. The dealer even gave me a complimentary bottle of champagne. I didn't ask for it, but he said I could just give it to somebody as a gift of something. Very kind of you Sir, thank you. Foolishly whilst driving the car today I forgot I put it in the boot, I didn't tie it down with the luggage net, and now the box has a few 'GTI skidmarks' as a result of it sliding around the boot floor. Whoops.

Not sure how much detail I want to go into on this thread, apologies if this is a bit long. But basically it kicks arse. I love the drive. I remember I test drove it back in September but to drive it properly as *your* car is totally different. I'm trying to keep the revs down, but it glides past 4000rpm so easily. I think getting used a bit more to the heel-toe style pedals will help me get a bit smoother. Drove a bit down the motorway and it cruises fine in 6th at 70mph at 2000rpm or something. One thing the dealer reminded me about was the super-sensitive brakes. I only need to touch the pedal a tiny bit and the car starts coming to a stop. Sometimes I forget and i stamp on the pedal and the whole thing just jerks and I feel like a pleb.

I enjoy driving that car. Scrub that. I *love* driving that car. I'm still getting used to the controls, but given more time with it, I'm sure I will be able to hand it smoothly. I think the suits my lifestyle quite aptly also. I want it to do "everything", and I think it is certainly a car that fulfils the 'all-round' promise it is renowned for.

However one point I do want to make, and I apologise if this may upset members, I'm still very very nervous about having it. I'm very conscious (or perhaps just paranoid) of the attention this gathers. I've read the stories of cars being stolen and I just cannot help wondering whether it might happen to me. I just pray nothing bad happens to me or anybody else as a result of me owning this car.

Maybe in 5-7 years time or something when this becomes the old model and it becomes a bit less desirable I might not spend so much time worrying. I was chatting to my friend via instant messenger about this, and basically he's trying to tell me to enjoy the brand new car. I'm finding it difficult right now to follow his advice but I guess I'll just have to see how it goes for the next few months. It is after all a brand spanking new motor, and I've waited since last year for it. I should be doing f##kinG somersaults and stuff and screaming "OMFG I got a sweet ride mudda f**kkas!!" but I'm not. I hope this phase will pass and my worries are all completely unfounded.

And for those of you who are still waiting for yours, I can say in my case it was worth the wait. If you can last the wait, it will make you very happy when you do eventually sit behind the steering wheel.

And for all of you who say candy white is the best colour, I'm a +1

Afraid not sir. It's just a sh1++y basic model, i only specced the 2 options of the monzas and the luggage pack. i did ask the dealer about it because i was half considering adding it, but the dealer was quite honest and said it probably wasn't worth it. i've read various reviews and members on here describing ACC ranging from the "can't really notice the difference" and "sport is mega stiff, only use it on  trackdays!" As i've never really experienced the difference of the Sport and Comfort modes, perhaps just being oblivous is best. i'm certainly happy with the way it drives now.
