Not been on for a week or so.  Choice of EV is exactly the problem.

Range on the Golf sized ones (ID3, Born) are also too short, and the bigger ones are barges.  The ID4/5 are horrible to look at.

Had a look at the ID3 GTX but its stupidly priced for an ID3 with a body kit.

Just going to wait it out and see what comes out.  Still waiting on my deposit being refunded 10 days on.  Dealer hasn't even confirmed the order was cancelled.  Phoned today, not call back.  Phoning the sales manager tomorrow.

That’s quite a jump!
If one wanted to avoid the £40k tax then being an early adopter was the only sure fire way.
If you wanted a bit of spec and weren’t fussed about the tax then not so much, just increasing wait times and even higher new registration tax likelihood to rub salt in financial wounds.

Going back to Colh’s dilemma - what electric car to get? If wishing to avoid the £40k tax you’d need to guarantee delivery before the end of March next year otherwise it’d be something like an Alpine A290 maybe? (Assuming a hot hatch type EV was criteria)

I think leasing might be the best way to go with an EV right now unless open to buying a used car. And a shortish lease at that as technology is changing pretty quick.
But aside from the Mini SE (or JCW E) which is very mini inside they’re all just generic SUV’s and VW is likely binning the MEB platform soonish and going in with XPENG(?) so hopefully that’ll mean vaguely more affordable cars. VW ICE chassis quality improved massively with the MQB cars so hopefully those engineering skills will move over to developing decent handling EV’s which don’t require complex engines and emissions add ons so therefore should actually be cheaper to produce despite expensive batteries.

Morning all, hopefully I’ll be in the position to order a factory build GTI in the next week or so. Anyone ordered recently and what’s the expected delivery? Also, Drive the deal are currently offering £4K discount plus the extra £2,500 PCP deposit, so bringing the car down from £45k to £38.5k, as I plan to pay off the PCP next June. Anyone used Drive the deal as I’ve never ordered a car this way before.

Ordered mine 2 weeks ago and had build week 51 confirmed today. Hoping for a March registration but we’ll see. I only got £2k discount (trading in - no finance).

Does anyone know what the costs are for repaying the Solutions PCP early are. I’d be looking to clear the finance after a couple of months, so am assuming that there will be 60 days interest to pay. Anyone had any experience of this? I’m trying to get a copy of the finance agreement from VWFS but no luck so far. Just don’t want to get into an agreement that I can’t get out of.

I’ll dig mine out tomorrow for exact wording. But basically you have a right of withdrawal within 14 days of signing the agreement (not car delivery day). You still pay a daily interest charge. After that you can request an early settlement figure. What I spoke to VWFS to exercise my right of withdrawal they said if it was after 14 days then I’d have to pay 56 days interest?
If you do exercise your right to withdraw within 14 days, you then have 30 days from informing them to actually make the payment to clear the outstanding balance.

Why not just read it on their website?

Because the page you linked too doesn’t answer my question, but thanks for your help anyway.

Thanks “Sharpe”, appreciate it. That seems to align with what I’ve managed to source elsewhere, seems like a no brainer to get the £2,500 deposit contribution even after paying the 56 days interest penalty.  Just wanted clarity that it doesn’t say anything about losing that contribution if repaid early.

Yeah, you'll be fine. People have been using this "trick" for many years. I am always a bit surprised you are allowed to get away with it, but I think its to do with your basic rights when taking out a loan. I don't think the early settlement affects the dealer's commission as I've had a dealer actually suggest it to me. As you say, a no-brainer.

Collected my red 8.5 on Saturday. Feels different to my previous mk8, oh maybe I remember it wrong. Very impressed by travel assist and fuel consumption on the motorway, made 45mpg on the M40.
After two year with Audi A4, driving a GTI is much more fun, even if this car is much noisier and interior feels cheaper. However, it feels like wearing a favourite shirt again!:)
