Whos quoted you all that? if the turbo is knackered replace that and go from there (yes there may be an underlining issue with a breather pipe or something) most of which you will do when you take the turbo out anyway as you'll lose all the oil and coolant anyway making it easier to investigate breathers and pipes as most will be coming off

Do the work yourself (if you were closer I would help) and get the turbo refurbished - job done

Is it a K03s?

yeah it is a K03s

Ouch bud. I would strongly recommend you ensure the engine mount bolts are replaced as well otherwise they WILL snap.

Also have your oil pickup pipe replaced they commonly block straving the turbo of oil and then the turbo goes might be why yours went.

I had mine done for good measure and i was lucky as it was half blocked.

I took my sump off and looked at my pickup pipe, there was all sorts of crud in there from metal from the threading of the sump bolt to gasket sealant where they had used too much!

Typical the one year I needed it all doing I gave it a garage who I would no longer touch with a barge pole! at least being done now (by me) I know its done right.

This is one of the problems with a garage doing work for you it may seem ok, but further down the line you get to see where they have made short cuts and cost savings rant over

This reminds me all too well of my golf experience

Started to puff smoke a little bit when coming off boost which got worse and worse then realized my turbo was f**ked...

Came to do an oil change after low oil pressure light came on and thought would clear sump as well whilst did turbo etc... then found two crank spacers in the sump the bottom end had completly gone :/

Ended up costing me
£225 for a KO3S Low Millage
£150 for a Bottom End
£100 for a new timing belt and water pump
£75 for oil, plugs, filters and a new pick up pipe

Then lovely forum member helped me fit the lot and chucked him £100 as felt bad for amount of time it took, I would advice having a go at tackling the turbo yourself its a pain in the arse and fidly but take your time and you can do it with a basic (ish) selection of tools over a weekend.

dude break the car, get more money for the parts involved and get a desent one, you may have a lemon there mate. if you can get the turbo sorted you should be fine however if you go over £700 you should really consider something better. if you're going to keep the car then upgrade the turbo. this would be a perfect opportunity to do this

James i do get what your saying but if you go to the beginning of this thread i picked this car for so many reasons and accepting the possibility of engine work, granted not even half what i just had to pay out.

all the work is gonna be done now and that will be pretty much the most expensive parts lol, i have 2 yrs unlimited mileage warranty on the turbo and head work so that gives me time to learn, im here with the car and have been helping every step so i learn.

when i learn more and am more confident i might do a turbo upgrade in a year, the only thing is that we missed the courier to recondition my turbo today but i only have until friday to do this, so unless someone has a turbo upgrade on here for sensible pennies thats an easy fit??

i took a video of the play in the turbo but dont know how to upload it?

Fook me man, you got shafted. I hope this is a proper lesson to you. If i was in your shoes i would take the car back and get ALL of my money back off him. That guy took the fookin p1ss. My mate had a simular problem with a mk2 16v he bought. He went god know how far and paid for it anyway on way back the car started to play up, he rang him to tell him that the car he sold him aint worth the effort. Eventualy he broke down in middle of nowere. He rang aa and they bought him and the car to his house. Next day my mate rang the guy and told him what a sh1t car the guy sold him and said i want my money back and take the car within 24hrs. Long story short my mate lost 150 on it + fuel costs but got rest back after demanding for his hard earned cash.
