I nearly ordered another Audi TT but decided having 2 coupes with barely any passenger space or able to carry a snowboard wasn't the practical choice and the spec of the GTi was too good & value for money to ignore.
What about a TT - same engine as the GTi therefore similar power and performance.

I've got a TT at the moment! Great cars though!

New TT is out next year, it would be daft not to wait for it if you were getting one. I bet there'll be another epic wait on the cards if you did get an early order in for the MK3 though.

It looks fantastic too. Will be expensive though, certainly will be tempted when the first batch are a few years old and pick up a second hand one.

Yip, same here. After 3 years of the golf I may head back to the mk3 TT cause I loved the mk2. My only concern would be the starting price as I reckon the TT will be moving up in the Audi price range.

Second batch of test drives today. Drove the BMW 125d Auto and the Seat Leon FR 1.8TSI Manual.

Leon - very nice, did everything well, all the gadgets very impressive - and for the money, fully loaded its £24k - it's a tempter.

But....

The 125d was immense. Quick as you like, brilliant throttle response, auto box slick and effortless. Blows the GTD out of the water - but it's £5k more (basic) so for the money the GTD still makes sense.

Bottom line is that I think we'll go for the 125D or maybe even the 120D (which is cheaper, more efficient and still does 0-60 in 7.2 secs) depending on lease company quotes.  As posted by many, nice to have a different car than two the same ie. two golfs.

Thanks for all the advice chaps! As an aside, anyone going down the company car route I'd urge you to try the 1 series - I thought it was an excellent car.

Totally get your mindset on this, the 1 series is a very good car to drive I'm led to believe.  I won't mention the U word though

It's not that U.G.L.Y.

Great choice going with the 125d. Monster torque: 450 Nm (332 lb-ft)
Current: BMW M140i / ZF8 / 5 DR
Past: MK7 GTI / DSG / WHITE / 5 DR

I just don't find it ugly, but maybe I'm just weird!

Just to throw a spanner in the works I think a contender to that is the 120d x drive - I know that effectively ruins the essence of a bmw being 4 wheel drive but she doesn't care about that..... Decisions, decisions!

I'm with you, I think the current 1er looks good in M-Sport trim, the lower spec models look a bit meh.
Cancelled GTI, M135i beast mode.

Yep, has to be M Sport - that's like all cars though, eg a normal Golf looks meh whereby a GTI looks

The latest one does look much better in the flesh, it's clearly not that photogenic but who cares, I'm sure it will look just fine next to the Golf.  Good decision IMO

@matchboy:

125d M Sport is a superb car and so is the 120d M Sport. Sensible choices. Congratulations.

The BMW F20 Series is not ugly to these eyes. It's an organic looking design and in M Sport guise and with the right engine, it is very much a Premium Performance Hot Hatchback.

Next to the F20 series, the Golf, whether it is a GTI or not, looks like a box and the Audi A3 Sportback reminds one of a breadvan. The BMW is my No1 choice (I really have warmed to its design) and I don't mind the Golf box which has its particular charm and unique look. But I simply cannot warm to the third car in this trio especially as a Sportback.

The ZF 8 speed Sport Auto box is tremendous. I would sacrifice xDrive just for the box.

Enjoy.
