i've got a 106 gti with a few choice mods, and i'm thinking of getting a mk2 8v.  I should know the difference in the next day or 2 after a test drive of 8v.  I'll let ya all know what the differences feel like

Hey everyone, just joined up having recently purchased a mk2 16v. I've spent the past 3 years or so with pugs one of them being a 106gti. Ok on paper they don't look much but to drive they are as quick as a 16v. At an estimate I'd say 0-60 the 106 would win but then the golf will pull away. Handling, the 106 wins hands down though.

I've found the build quality of pugs a lot to be desired with pin dents galore down the doors and on any other panel you touch. That said though I've never had one with rust problems which I have noticed with VWs.

just to add my 2 penneth!

Just recently blew a boy-racer and his chick away in my '90 16 valver with 125K on the clock. He was drivin his 206 GTi like an asshole, right up my ass so I just floored it and he couldn't keep up. In the end I let him catch up cos I don't aggree with driving at 100mph on local A roads!

I'm guessing most mk2 golfs a fair bit older than most 106 gti's though.   That said, i have no idea when the first 106 gti's were produced.   My valver is 13 yrs old & has 2 very small specs of rust.  Can't imagine many pugs lasting that long

My 90 Valver has Jamex Suspension,Strut Brace,Uprated engine mounts and Bushes. On the engine side it has a TSR head with highlift cams and a Milltek Zorst.I regularly go to track days @ Donnington and can never remember seeing a pug 106 on the track, perhaps thats because there isn't many girls interested in trackdays.
All I ever do @ Donno is overtake richboys in there 54 plate scoobys because they do not know how to drive them.Anyone can put there foot down in a straight line, alot of people talk of driving a fast car but can they drive a car fast.
