I've never used a pressure washer on my GTI and I have to say I've never noticed any flaking paint on it either. I did notice this weekend however that some paint is missing from the front lower corner of the side skirt where stones have been kicked up by the front wheels and worn away the paint. Not too worried about corrosion however as it's only plastic that has been exposed.

Wish i'd gone metallic paint, have you noticed on CW paint the doors and bumper looks a different shade also? :undecided: or is it just me.

Quite a few new cars seem to have this problem. Just after the Gen 2 Focus RS was released I bumped into quite a few owners who were all having issues with the paint (specifically the Green colour). The paintwork on the metal areas was noticeably different to the paintwork on the plastic sections.

I then encountered the same thing when viewing a Corsa VXR Arctic for a friend. The Vauxhall salesperson wasn't too chuffed when I pointed it out.

And then when another friend eventually plumped for an Astra VXR Arctic, he had the same thing with his front bumper appearing to be a different shade to the painted metal work on his car.

Cheers, that's all the pics I have at the mo, I have noticed on a lot of new cars the bumpers are a different shade  maybe due  to the partynt changes that occurred last yearas my 11 plate a4 wasn't like that

Has anyone touched up or sorted out the flaking paint from the rear arch/bumper? I had the same on my Ibis White A3 (which I touched up with paint, but it kept flaking) and the same with my GTI now, albeit the GTI looks worse. I must admit I pressure washed it the other week and saw some more come off lol

I still haven't rectified this yet and the dealer seems to have forgot about it... I was meant to be letting their Mobile painter lake a look at it. No way it's going in their body shop and bumper removed.

I'm going to try some black stone chip paint when I can be arsed. I've noticed the front does it slightly too but it's not as exposed as rear bumper so not as bad

Ideally I want some brush on stone chip but can't find any. Rattle can means alot of masking and a bigger chance of a fook up.

Different shade bumpers is very common I think and it's not particular to any one manufacturer. Its down to how the metal and the plastic bumper reflect light differently, so I guess it depends on the light, the colour and the contours of the car. That said, I've never noticed it on my white GTD.

What it's really down to is the way that the painting robots are programmed to use the bear minimum amount of paint. The coats are so thin that that are ever so slightly translucent and you can still see the different materials underneath. If the cars were painted be hand without an eye on penny pinching to save a couple of grammes of paint per car, there would be sufficient paint applied for the car to come out the same colour all over.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

That could be partly  the reason too

I must say though that I'm reasonably impressed with the paint quality on my candy white car. Not a single stone chip on the front of the car or the bonnet (touch wood) in 10,000 miles. On previous cars I always had a few chips within the first few hundred miles!
