another mk6 paint thread
« on: 18 January 2012, 17:34 »

just washed the car the other day and its been in the garage since, until i took it out this morning to wash the underbody. i washed down all the suspension arms, drive shafts, struts, subframe, gearbox and sump before installing the larger bluemotion under tray.

i always thoroughly clean the wheel wells anyway but as i had the car on stands i decided to give them a proper going over.

anyway, while i was on with it i noticed a piece of paint about the size of a 10p piece flake off from the lower bumper inside the rear wheel well.

identical to this

http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24272

can anyone with or without CW tell me 1 if they have noticed this or 2 is their wheel wells painted at all?

some seem to think that on CW have this part painted and it will just flake off over time as its basically overspray.

really not impressed with the paint on the mk6. around my numberplate (where the lights are) has been missed by the robot too but I've seen a lot of golfs and they all have thin paint in this area.what a joke. very disappointing for a £27500 car.

I'm going to take it back to the dealers to complain but I'm not letting them lose on my car with a spray gun. I'm going to just touch it in with the chip stick to try and stop it spreading. not impressed

Mine is also candy white, and I haven't seen the paint flake like that (yet). They are definitely painted white though inside there on mine.

Got to agree with you, the paint quality is terrible.

I had the rear bumper re-sprayed until warranty about a year back with exactly the same problem, the paint was that thin around the number plate you could see grey patches in the corners.

Wish i'd gone metallic paint, have you noticed on CW paint the doors and bumper looks a different shade also? :undecided: or is it just me.

i think most cars are like that now.

if you look at most new ish cars the plastic painted areas always look different to the panels.

when you mention the numbeplate are mine is the same. the 2 top corners of the numberplate recess are barely painted and have a rough feel to them as if they have just been flashed over, not painted properly. some of the panel gaps are a joke too

i had mine booked into the dealers to align my front bumper on the drivers side wing area as its stepped but i decided to do it myself in the spring instead as i don't trust them after last time...

I have to say I've been fairly impressed with the paint quality on my candy white. I have 7000 miles up now and not a single stone chip. Not one! Lucky or exceptionally hard paint? I suspect it's luck, but I'm not complaining! The paint looks as fresh as the day I collected it. It never really looks too dirty either. Tar spots are the only bug bear.

My previous cars were dark metallics. Total pain in the arse to keep looking well. I had a metallic black Audi A3 a few years ago that was allergic to bird sh!te! If I didn't wipe it off straight away it ate the lacquer. No such issues on the white.
