god knows how any mk2 8v owner can comment about performance tho, they suck too, as said in a previous thread today, back in the day if you had a 8v mk2, you were laughed at.

Maybe but a MKII 8v is still quicker than all the MKIII GTI's and the early MKIV turbo's. So I wouldn't say they suck.

the latter golf 3's were suspect tho i will agree, the galvernisation process must have been poop, just as it was on the same era polo.

RE the tailgate, that was a recall as far as i was told something to do with fauly window seals

My old man's was an M plate so an early one. By the time he sold it it had the new tailgate and had to have both sills welded for the MOT. Bit crap on a 6 year old car.

I'd just like to point out I have nothing against MKIII's in general.

It must be down to the individual car! Ive had a few mark 3's and havent had any rust issues except for the rubber bung needed welding on my current one! Had a couple of mk 2's as well and they were fine. Having said that, i had an escort si and that failed its mot on £700 worth of welding, so golfs cant be that bad anyway compared to other brands!

This was a why thread not a dig, I hope you don’t think I was having a pop because I am a lover of all golfs.  if you had a car I wanted and had the cash, you are one person I would definitely buy from.  I know you obsessively look after yours and I did mention that rot has a lot to do with ownership not the car.

I'd just like to point out I have nothing against MKIII's in general. I was just stating they rust badly compared to other Golfs. Compared to similar aged fords however they're much hardier

Guy, you'll be alright san. Your's is proper straight and tidy and has always been pampered.

Nick
agreed and i have nothing against mk3s. pah! fords my missus escort for example, P plate and has had more plates welded on it than i care to remember.  and i hate to think the amount of hours ive wasted chasing rot on that!
