I have just received my phase 3 text - build week confirmed for w/c 29th June 2015.
Doesn't feel too bad, given that I ordered on 24th April 2015.
(GTI, PP, White, 19")
-
That's pretty good. I ordered mine at the end of May so if I'm five weeks behind your date that'll do nicely. I've got a delivery date of mid August which I thought was very optimistic. Maybe not...
Neil
-
Must be knocking out GTI's pretty quickly. The same cannot be said for R's!
-
so jealous, wish I would get that damn text so I can relax lol. Come on VW hurry up
-
I had a Stage 3 text on Tuesday - car was scheduled for this week's build but has now slipped back to next week w/c 22.06.15 - Ordered 01.05.15 and still fine as it will be a 65 plate September registration.
-
Have to say the best bit about the car buying process was getting all the updates from the tracker from the Stage 3 text. VW really know how to excite/frustrate/tease you.
wont be long now tho.
-
Mine is a new order placed on 01.05.15 - Tracker update today is that the car is built and at Stage 5a - left the factory. I ordered it with being told to allow 19 weeks as I will register it as a 65 plate, so it's going to be here well in advance of that - happy days!

That's quick. You still taking it on a '65 plate or can't you wait?
-
No it will be a 65 plate for defo as my 63 plate was as October reg due to 26 weeks lead time, so well happy with this car's lead time, when I was told it would in fact be around 19 weeks and it now looks like it will arrive at the dealers around 12 / 13 weeks.
-
Stage 5b - In Transit: Shipping text received this morning.
-
Stage 5C update today - In Transit; near the UK - e.g. I am sailing!
-
Brilliant news. You'll have it soon!
I ordered mine a week ago. Tracker is telling me its with the factory. So I'm looking forward to those text updates!
-
So jealous!
A question for those waiting for 65 plates... Is it not an issue then if your car arrives there in August? Is it just a case of telling them to hold onto it until it can be registered as a 65 plate?
I know it doesn't make a massive deal in the long run but I guess I wouldn't mind waiting a couple of weeks to get a 65 plate if it's available. It'll be a brand new car so I may as well go for the newest plate!

Well I was going to ask the dealer to hang onto it till Sept 1st but since the inevitable build week slip that will not be necessary
If you're car is delivered to dealer in August you should definitely be asking them to keep it till the '65 plate.

What is the latest BW on yours Booth11 ?? Seems an age ago now since you placed your order

BW34 is how is currently stands. It's been back and forth, all over the place - weeks 28-24-48-29-34  If it stays at week 34 it should turn up towards end Sept. I ordered back on 29th Jan so it will ultimately be a long, long wait. I hope I like it
You enjoying your R JB GTI?

You enjoying your R JB GTI?
Absolutely loving it  Initially even though I knew what I was buying into I was a little concerned with the mpg but it has improved over 3k and now seeing an average in the low 30's of mainly short distance stuff so happy with that and it doesn't seem to be badly affected when I press the "Idiot" button and blast off farting into the horizon
I have just started to get the dreaded knocking from the back end at low speeds but it is very intermittent and not spoiling my enjoyment of the car. I will keep my eye on it to see if it develops further. Having said that the Dynaudio is nicely bedded in now and easily drowns out any unwanted noises so that's a bonus
Fingers crossed for your build date to stabilise otherwise we will be having " Monkeyhanger II " scenario on our hands !!

Oh no, not Monkeyhanger II
Really does sound like you're having a blast in it. To hell with the mpg! Low 30's sounds very respectable, I don't even get that in my current Mk6 GTI  And If in doubt, whack up the volume. Seriously I hope the rear knock doesn't turn into a nightmare shocks problem

Well done - you're lucky to get it that quickly. Ordered mine Dec 14 arrived April 15 so 4 months. It was worth the wait . After the build week (14), mine took another 2 weeks so you should get it around w/c 13th July if that's anything to go by.
-
Stage 6 - Arrived in the UK i.e. Grimsby, about 45 miles away from me

I wont be waiting! Mines a lease car so reg is not really a biggy as i dont care for residuals. After having it on order for what seems like a lifetime as soon as that baby is ready, im taking her! 15 or 65
-
mine has been confirmed for build week 31. so looking at end of august delivery so I shall ask to wait till september for a delivery, mine is also a lease but id rather have the new plate :)
-
I ordered mine with the full intention of having it as a 65 plate, which the dealer knows, so it will be going on the road on 1st September. Quoted 19 weeks delivery and it will arrive in about 13 so that's good news.
-
Ok - so my original post said I had a confirmed build week, of 29.06.15.
Today is the last day of that week, and according to the tracker my car hasn't moved to stage 4 (build in progress).
Is this normal? Can anyone shed any light?
Thanks in advance

Mine was the same - it went to "left the factory" or similar without showing build in progress. I think the online tool is a bit vague.
-
how long do you reckon it takes from a build week to delivery of a car to the uk ?
-
Interestingly, my dealer has more current information on the progress on my car than the tracker.
Tracker says 'Build in Progress' and has done for about 2 weeks.
Dealer told me yesterday that it had been built and was in-transit.
Just shows that the tracker is running a tad slow!
-
Hoping you guys can help me please.
It's likely to be about 3 weeks until my car becomes available (early-mid Aug). At what point, do you think does it make sense to wait for the new 01 September plate?
Thanks
-
For me, if it arrives mid-August then it's only 2 more weeks until the 65 plates are out. May as well wait another couple of weeks for them!
-
Got my build week confirmation text and email this morning.
The e-mail says w/c 10 August; tracker is showing w/c 3 August. I'm happy wither way
-
Mine's in the country and on the way to the dealer, but I'm not collecting until mid September when my work vehicle is collected. I ordered at the end of May, and thought I was cutting it tight for a Sept delivery, but obviously not!!
-
Indeed. I ordered mine mid-June and thought September was optimistic! Happy to be proved wrong though.
-
I received my 5c today.
I'm still going to wait for the 65 plate regardless, I think!

I got mine on Sat, has your dealer confirmed when the car is available? (regardless if your waiting for 65 or not)
-
Hi Websta
No, not a peep from the dealer yet.
Are you going to take your car as soon as it becomes available, or wait?
-

Im taking it as soon as i can! Its a lease vehicle though so for me its no biggy (and im sad and actually prefer 15 over 65)
I've emailed them this morning so as soon as i hear i'll let you know.
-
Minimal movement here still. 😕 No notification from tracker but when checking myself it has been at build in progress since yesterday.

I never got the build in progress part. It went straight to "In Transit" then "In transit: Near The UK"
-
Mine hit the uk over a week ago according to the website but the message only arrived a couple of days ago. Who knows, either way my spider senses are tingling!
-
NeilH- are you going to take the car in August or wait for 01 sept?
-
I called my dealer today and was told my build week is currently sitting at week 36, I ordered the car on the 8th July so pretty good turnaround so far!
-
Anyone else on Build week 32? (Next week :))
-
Does anyone else find what the tracker shows with just your order number and what it shows when you log in with an account are different?
VWUK stated my car was BW30 confirmed.
When I log in it it says 'Your order has been confirmed for production week commencing 27/07/2015' i.e. BW31.
However when I just enter the order number it says 'Your car is currently being built. On average it takes 4 weeks from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer.'
I really do think the tracker was a bad idea, it must cause lots of headaches not just for owners but also VW with regular complainers like me :lipsrsealed:

It does say conflicting things, but when you consider how many cars are built you can understand why it has a few hiccups!!
I agree though, its probably not the best idea to do it unless its accurate

You are doing well, I ordered 16th July and am at an unconfirmed build week 42!

Give your dealer a call, mine was originally sitting at week 42 as well, but after putting pressure on the dealer I was told my build date was bumped up to week 36.
-
Mine is in the country. Hopefully collecting next week with a bit of luck
-
wow websta that's very quick
-
I got my stage 7 this morning so it must be close. I'm getting edgy now!
Neil.
-
I got my stage 6 too!
So far:
24/4 - Placed my order
16/6 - Stage 3 Build week confirmed
16/7 - Stage 5b Shipping (missed out 4 and 5a)
26/7 - Stage 5c Transit
29/7 - Arrived in the UK
Still going to wait for 01/09 registration/collection.
-
I'm not sure I want to. I'm lucky, it's a company car so no impact. It would be nice to collect on the first day of the new reg though. Other drivers, me included always cast a glance at new reg cars!
-
Ordered 16th April ~ still no build date
I'd be happy if the online tracker did anything other than say 'with the factory'
-
Have you spoken to the dealer about collection?
-
wow websta that's very quick
Not in the grand scheme of things is wasnt! Ordered Jan 28th!

Finally got my Stage 5a text this morning 😁

Quick question, which I know has been answered before but I can't remember - do text notifications, i.e. Stage 3, usually come on Fridays?
Thanks

Roll on Weds for you....
Look forward to seeing the pics!

Mines in too. I can have it delivered from Monday but I'm going to see if I can pick-up on Saturday. I feel like a kid on xmas eve.
Neil.

I got my stage 5a text this morning, which was a surprise considering the car wasn't scheduled to be built until next week!
Brilliant

And I got....... f**k all confirmation of stage 3 today,
Will see what tommorow brings, or not. Something tells me it's not going to be BW35

It's so frustrating! Initially I was told mine would be a week34 - now it's apparently a week35. The tracker still hasn't budged from "with the factory"!
-
It does all seem to be a bit hit and miss. I'm astounded mine is moving so quickly given the experience of others.
-
I've been well lucky, ordered May 29th, At the dealership July 29th, pick-up August 3rd.
That's a record for all the cars I've had from new.
Neil.

Agree.
My delay is most likely down to the rumoured Pretoria alloys supply issue. I'm used to waiting 5-ish months for a Golf, but 8/9 months is testing my patience, especially as I ordered in Jan assuming (wrongly) that 7 months should be sufficient lead-in.
I have been getting regular BW updates from my dealer, so only occasionally visit the tracker, as I'm sick to the death of seeing that bloody "with the factory" icon. Grrr
I really think mine is more likely a 40+ BW, despite what the dealer has been telling me!!!
-
Ordered 16th April ~ still no build date
I'd be happy if the online tracker did anything other than say 'with the factory'
That's shocking.I ordered mine on 1st of July.Dealer confirmed build week 35 delivery before end of Sept.
I don't think the online tracker is worth much.My tracker still says with the factory.Better to phone the dealer direct I think.
I wonder how much the bulid date is affected by dealer quotas?.I've read on here that brokers tend to be slower than main dealers.
I'm not too fussed about when I get my GTD.My trade in value is fixed. But it would be nice to get it before the snow begins.
Or it could be that my dealer is just being optimistic....... :undecided:
-

Wow you're flying - I got fed up waiting on an update so contacted dealer who told me I was initially 'unconfirmed' at week 32 when I ordered on the 4th July and now it has 'slipped' to week 40 - registered with the tracker and I suppose it's just a waiting game - currently with the factory and expect to be there for a while - bit disappointing seeing I order about 2 weeks after you Battleshipgray

Indeed. I've pretty much ordered the basic car, CSG paint, and will come with the added extras of Keyless etc. But clearly if you spec something additional, it will have an effect on lead-in times.
I thought the dealer was being over optimistic in telling me three months. Knowing my luck it'll sit at Emden for several weeks before being put on the boat
-
It's pretty piss poor. All this' might be then ,might be some other time'.I work in manufacturing. If I said to a customer the same thing. They would look elsewhere. But then they wouldn't be getting what they really wanted!.
-
....Will see what tommorow brings, or not.
Not.
C'est la vie!

Feeling rather deflated myself this week, ordered my car 17th June, and it's still sitting with the Factory.
I've never really been in a rush, but all this waiting around just gives me time to think, I'm currently waiting on a price from my dealer for a Golf R instead lol

I heard via another forum that Santiagos are putting build times way back, and also DSG cars are a lot slower to be built than manuals

Something doesn't seem right here. Surely you should have had heard something by now. I don't buy the delays on Pretoria's as a plausible reason for delay. Has your supplying dealer had allocation issues that they are not telling you about ??

I really don't know JB. My dealer guy is on holiday at the moment but needless to say I will be pressing him for a response from VWCS on his return.
When I last pressed him on 16th Jul, I got a non committal reply:
"Looking at all the other Golf R models I have on order with estimated built weeks your car and one other are week 35, all the other ones are 36 or further back than this.
I don’t know why your order might be taking nearer to 8 months by the time it has been shipped and ready if it is built during week 35, I have had a couple that took about 7 months or so, the average is 5-6 months, I have had three come through a lot quicker the rest"
And, when I mentioned the rumoured delays due to Pretorias:
"I didn’t know there were delays with the wheels"
:undecided:
Forgot to say, there is someone on vwroc who ordered same day as me and in same boat. They have similar spec with Prets, possibly one or two others too.

My dad had one of the first MK7 GTDs in the country, and at the time it was rumoured that DSGs were causing delays. His was a DSG. VW never seem short of DSG boxes.

I've just noticed something strange...
On the normal tracker it says: Your order has been confirmed for production week commencing 24/08/2015
However, on the e-mail I received from VW and on the Owners section of the website it says: Your order has been confirmed for production week commencing 31/08/2015

I can't find out until Monday. I was just wondering if it had happened to anyone else.

Ordered mine on 20th June and in the country now. Cannot wait.

I had that issue also, when logged on to the Owners section it was always a week further behind. I was confirmed BW30 and logged in it said BW31, in the end it was built right at the very end of BW30.

The Weser Highway is due to sail for Emden later, docking at 15.00 tomorrow.
That might be picking up cars at Emden for the return leg for anyone waiting on a 5c...
-
I can't wait to see some pictures and thoughts, when you start picking up your cars over the next couple of weeks Websta, Neil, Battleshipgray...

Me too. Congrats to all those whose cars are on their way. Look forward to seeing some pics and reading your reviews in the coming weeks.
And even though they are different cars, need something to read and look at whilst I'm waiting for mine.
-
So where are the GTI's actually built, the volkswagen website is pointless, i've seen everything from Slovakia to South Africa to Iberia.
Who knows?

I'm no expert, but I believe Wolfsburg.
-
So where are the GTI's actually built, the volkswagen website is pointless, i've seen everything from Slovakia to South Africa to Iberia.
Who knows?
For UK - Wolfsburg.
-
Indeed. Getting very excited now.
-
I can't wait to see some pictures and thoughts, when you start picking up your cars over the next couple of weeks Websta, Neil, Battleshipgray...
I'll upload some! Collecting her 11am Wednesday morning!!!
-
Mines 9AM Tue. Sadly, I've got a busy day/week on the work front but I'll try and get some piccies done and some reviews of the car-net stuff.
Excited - you bet!!!
-
Mine is very strange. my build week according to the tracker was 27/7. Not received any more texts and checked the tracker today and its on build in progress, would have thought it would have been built by now.

What you will probably find is that you will just get a text that says "shipping"
I never got a build in progress text
-
yea I just thought id have got that shipping text last Friday.
-
whats also very weird is that if I log into the vw website, it says production week 3/8.. very confusing

I wouldnt take too much notice. All of a sudden you will get a series of texts. At least its being built mate!!!
-
I got my 5c this morning. That's all three stage 5 texts since Friday!
The tracker says on average 10 days to dealer, though dealer this morning said could be 2-3 weeks.
-
Just got my build date confirmed by the dealer, week 35.
So end of September delivery, right?

Same here.Dealer says delivery mid to late Sept.Tracker still says 'order with the factory'.No build week confirmed but the dealer showed me his screen with the build week on it.

Seems like plenty of movement down one end of the production line - bit slower up the other end (order still with the factory  )
-
I received stage 7 today!!
It's going to be a long 4 weeks waiting for my 65 plate!!

That would be a lonnng wait

Fortunately, my dealer is 100 miles away in Ashford, Kent (best price on Car Wow). So no sneaky peaks for me!!.

Fair play! I've got to get the train to Doncaster tomorrow as im about 100 miles from there as well!
I am absolutely buzzing!!!
-
I've just driven mine back from the dealership. Awesome so far. Back to work then I can have a play. I Didn't realise the audio would read flac files so I may have to rethink my music strategy!
I've pootled back in eco mode 98% efficient according to the car data.
I'm really impressed with the car. Everything feels right and the car feels so much bigger than it is - a good indication of quality in my experiences.
It's really dull here so I may hold on until I get at least a little sunshine before taking some piccies.
I'll get the car-net stuff registered tonight so I can do a review at the weekend.
Cheers, Neil.

Great work Neil - Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts over the coming days (and see some pics too!)...

Sounds awesome mate!
Ive got a 150 mile drive back from the dealers so it will be interesting to see how the consumption adds up. It will be hard to hold back though but running in is always important.
-
Well it's taken 14 weeks but i've now got a build date!
Late August build for delivery late September.
Dealership phoned to tell me but i already knew. It's not like i've been checking the tracker twice a day for three months!
-
So, just before I head off to the land of snooze combined with a few glasses of champagne (let's celebrate the new arrival said my Wife...) I nipped out to try the stereo - brill, sounds great and I didn't realise it had the option to scroll by album cover just like cover flow on my iPad. All embedded album art was there without any adjustment.
There are a few options I reckon I should see dynamic traffic sign display on the MFD but it just isn't there - it shows speed limits on the nav screen so maybe just needs a vcds tweak. I can't see an option to reduce the soundaktor volume either (some guys on the vroc site said it had been exposed on the menu) so that's another one for vcds. Maybe I will need a vcds cable after all.
Finally it does look the dogs at night, inside and out.
Anyway, time for bed, or maybe a quick review of the handbook then bed.
I'm going to do an mp3 versus flac test in the coming days. I'll let you know if I think it's worth it.
After all that I'm going to drive it, maybe a nice lunch in the lake district over the weekend.
Cheers, Neil.
-
I can't see what the spec of your car is but I'm sure you need lane assist and Nav pro for it to display the traffic signs as it uses a camera in the rear view mirror to recognise them.

Stage 6 received this morning.
Bring it on!

I've got the lane guidance and what have you and the speed limits show (when they can) on the nav screen just not in the MFD. It's a minor thing, the cars fab, 7 years since I last had a VW (a MK5 GTI) and things have taken a serious leap forwards in that time.

The speed you are seeing being displayed on the Nav is from the Navs database not from a camera picking up a sign. I get this also and I don't have lane assist. Is there not an option for it to display in the options list on the head unit?
-
Nope, there should be according to the manual but there's nothing there in the menu.
-
Picked mine up yesterday and i echo all the things Neil has said. Loving the car!
I had a 150mile drive home and got 49mpg which is pretty darn good considering the car is brand new, and the engine not run in. Was cruising at 70 the whole way home.
Love the ACC, however the car did brake suddenly when i car in-front moved into a box junction to turn right. Other than that its been faultless. I wish it accelerated a little quicker after the car in front moves though. However a simple dab of the go faster pedal sorts this out.
Ive not really delved into the menu's or settings yet. I tried to set up the car net last night but i need the code so will do that today.
Really looking forward to letting it loose once ive done a few more miles, i had a couple of short accelerations yesterday and its got a real nice pull to it
-
Another thing, does anyone have any feedback on the datat car-net uses? Does it eat it up?? Or does it just use data when youre searching for stuff on the NAV?
-
Mr Websta (and Neil) - Can we see some pictures please????

I dont think photo's do Night Blue any favours. I love the colour!

....or most definately UNCONFIRMED in my case!
As my dealer is away, and frustration with my order continues, I contacted VWCS today to see if I could glean any new info. In short, at this stage, no, but it has at least raised attention to the matter, something I’m not convinced the dealer has done to any significant extent.
This is the summary of the conversation.
The lady at VWCS checked through to the sales team and came back with the unsurprising info that the order was still showing as unconfirmed BW, though she had neglected to ask which one. She asked me when I had placed the order and on telling her it was 29th Jan, she (genuinely sounding shocked) said she was extremely concerned that I had not received a confirmed BW, and that by this time I should definitely have had a BW confirmed, given the length of time since the order was placed. She has now flagged the order as ‘priority status’ which means that it will be investigated as to why the order not been confirmed (BW) and whether there is a problem with it. At this point I mentioned the rumoured Prets delay issue but did say that other cars with these wheels were now being built. She made no comment on this, just reiterated that it was very concerning not to have received a confirmed BW.
Now the order has been given a 'priority' flag, I have been advised to wait a further week before contacting my dealer (should be back from hols by then) to ensure that the order is indeed flagged ‘priority’ and by which time the dealer should be in a position to tell me if there is a problem, or best case scenario, give me a confirmed BW. If it is the former then he is to take the matter up with VWUK.
So no new news, and the sceptic in me reserves the right to assume it may be usual VW bullsh!t, but at least the matter has been raised, and possibly escalated. I did mention I knew of at least one other person in the same boat (on vwroc) and she recommended anyone in this situation to do the same and contact VWCS if they haven’t already or done so recently.
-
picking mine up on monday
-
Lucky you
Little update on my previous post:
Just had an email from James, my dealer, responding to an email I sent last week whilst he was away, and him being unaware that I have raised the issue with VWCS.
He has just checked the system and my order is now showing as unconfirmed BW4! That's last week of Jan 2016. Wtf!!!
He says he has raised it with VWUK, and I am just about to inform him I have already raised the matter.
Whatever next! If the situation does not improve, I am seriously considering cancelling.
-
Booth - Probably quicker to start again, and place a fresh order!
That is ridiculous, and feels like you should be due something to compensate you for the wait/delay!
-
BW4 that's not on.You must qualify for a courtesy car from them now. Then at least you can sell your current car at today's price rather than waiting till new car makes an appearance.VW really are trying the patience of one of their most loyal of customers,if only they knew.
-
What a joke. A whole year from ordering to even the possibility of it being built. Why hasn't your dealer been getting back to you all the time to apologise?!
-
Thanks for your support guys, I appreciate it. Am feeling very disillusioned with the whole thing atm.
Dealer has confirmed I can have a hire courtesy car if mine is sold, but that's hardly the point! I had a sale fall through on my Mk6 a few weeks ago (for reasons on the buyer's side totally unrelated to the car), and so the plan was/is to put it up for sale when I return from my hols in approx 3 weeks. If I decide to stick with the order regardless of when it might come - sooner, or later, what I will be saying to VWUK (likely to fall on deaf ears), is that they should compensate me the amount that my car depreciates from the 1st September until such time it is sold (either privately, or to a dealer).
My dealer has been apologetic but not very proactive until now. I have constantly asked for the dealer for updates, and the only reason I have not pushed it until now, is, a) I didn't need it till 1st Sept and earlier in the process that was on track, and b) there was a known? (on forums) supply issue with the Pretoria Wheels, so I expected some delay due to that, and c) the last est BW - BW35 was still just about an acceptable wait. But now cars with Pretorias are being built and delivered and my dealer has confirmed he has had them coming through too, and it's not BW35, or 36, 37.... Dealer is at a loss as to why there is such a delay but I have insisted that he must now keep the pressure on VWUK (as will I) for some answers and hopefully an acceptable resolution. Any bets it's some minute admin glitch that is the reason.
Just build the damn car!!!
@jpo, you're probably right, placing a fresh order could see it being built quicker than BW4. Mad!
-
Wow Rebecca, that is just absolutely crazy! I'd be cancelling it tbh. It's not worth that aggravation but I can understand having waited this long, it's hard to pull the plug now. It's very hard to understand how it can take so long.
-

I know Joe, it is unbelievable.
It may come to cancelling yet, but you're right it will be a hard decision to pull the plug this far in. I've looked at a alternative cars, but sad as it may sound, there's still nothing I want as much as an R. What to do?? I will see what comes about in next couple of weeks before making any rash decision.
-
I ordered at GTI mid july with estimated build week 42, it's now slipped to 45. I know there might be the odd delay but nearly 5 months for a (quite a nice) hatchback seems like a very long time.
How many golfs do they make a day at the wolfsburg?
-
Mr Websta (and Neil) - Can we see some pictures please????
I'll do some at the weekend, it's p'ing down here and although it still looks good. It's not what I want for photo's
Neil.
-
Rebecca - that is truly bonkers.
You must have boundless patience.
-
PS. I put some FLAC files on tonight, play fine and sound brilliant. I'll do some comparisons at the weekend when I've got time to get the Dynaudio set-up right.
I think I may go to the dealer about the traffic sign display thing. I've got all the gear (camera etc), everything I've read and checked says it should be present in both Discover Nav and Pro. Maybe it just needs un-hiding in the menu. Reading the MIB2 manual it says things like recognised traffic sign will be shown on the map display but in the car manual it says they can also be displayed on the MFD, who knows....
One thing I noticed in the manual was DVE (Digital Voice Enhancement). I've not heard of it before, if you can enable it, when the driver speaks, it picks-up what's being said and feeds it over the speakers in the back - not much use for me but if you have noisy kids in the rear it may be a handy option - I'm assuming it uses the mic that the phone/voice control uses so may be available via a VCDS tweak (just to note I see version 15.7 has been released). I'm still wondering if I should get the cable....
I let the ACC bring the car to a complete stop today down from 75 on the motorway, then start back up again, really cool, although I did hover over the brake pedal.... Even at the closest setting there's plenty of room for a white van men to cut in at the last minute but other than that it worked really well.
I tried the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but both pieces of kit I had to hand refused to play - both are quite old. I'll try with some more up to date (my wife's) kit over the weekend.
Cheers, Neil.

I
Rebecca - that is truly bonkers.
You must have boundless patience.
Or boundless stupidity, not sure which!
I do have a lot of patience, but come early spring 2016, it will have been well and truly exhausted.

Sorry all, I'll stop moaning about the car now.

It still strikes me as mad.
I'm almost embarrassed at how quick my order has been. Though I've yet to see the car yet!

Battleshipgray - don't be embarrassed at getting a quick turnaround. That's how it should be. I'm pleased for anyone of you members getting your Golfs sooner rather than later. Hope it lives up to expectation when it arrives.

booth id not be too worried. my build week was week commencing 27th july and ive not heard anything since lol, but if I was you id not stop waiting now, the R is a fantastic car and definitely worth the wait especially as you have waited so long.

A call to the dealer this morning and my car should be ready for collection on Monday week

I'm not worried just very narked. It is a fantastic car (otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it), but having to wait potentially another 6.5 months for it to arrive, on top of the 6.5 already elapsed? It's not that fantastic. :undecided:

Ha, ha, I did that for weeks, drove my other half mad!
The sun came out for a bit today so managed about 75 on the m'way with sunroof fully open, no buffeting, just a nice cool breeze - well happy with that.
Neil.
-
Arranged a Tuesday pick up. Told the dealer i expected a full tank and he looked at me like I'd asked for a free car.

What's on yours that is holding up the build? I don't care how much a good car the R is it's not hand built and anything over 6 weeks is a joke never mind 6-12 months. I'd be seriously kicking off with vwuk about some form of recompense. I hope you got a guaranteed trade in price off the dealer.
-

Who knows what the hold up is? No guaranteed trade-in to consider, hoping to sell privately.
Anyway, I have had an update of sorts from my dealer this morning (via email - I think he's frightened to talk to me in person!), informing me that my unconfirmed build week is now showing as BW37. Hmm, heard similar before!!!
So I will have to wait and see if this transpires to be true. If so, I should hear this week I would think, though I have asked my dealer if this is the case. I have also told him that whilst I hope this info proves to be accurate, given all the other build week movement, I am, at best, a little sceptical.
I have also asked him if he's had an actual proper response from VWUK with respect to the querying of my order status, i.e. a reason as to why it's taking so long to get a confirmed build week, and why it the est BW had dropped right back last week? And also requested that I am immeadiately informed of any further developments.
So watch this space!.........
-
I've just been given a bw 37 or 44 for the tiguan I ordered yesterday. Must be something particular that's holding yours up as apart from the new discover nav not much is shared.
-
Hi Booth,
I cancelled after a similar experience with my GTI PP. The order number is still showing as live, and at stage 2, when I plug it into VW's tracker. Spec is in my sig so not sure if there is any correlation there that might be holding yours up too? Obviously my dealer may have done something with the order after I cancelled to hold it up even more or it may just be a blip in the system full stop and, regardless, VW should be telling you why it's held up! It was an unconfirmed BW33 when I cancelled having ordered originally at the end of Feb.
-
It was taking the piss with mine considering i waited 27 weeks. I think you must have ordered around a similar time (Jan)
When i picked mine up last week the girl said "at least you didnt order an R" so i can only imagine every dealer in the country is having a mare....however, others have build weeks which is strange!!
-
Well I ordered on 29th Jan, knowing there was a long lead in time for an R. I preferably wanted the car 1st Sept and had thought that allowing 7 months would be sufficient. Wrong! But then for a long time there has been talk of a delay with Pretoria wheels, which appears to be backed up by many others experiencing delays, the common denominator being the wheels.
Anyway, if my car does indeed get built BW37 that would be just about acceptable being an 8 month wait in total. However it was the slippage back to BW4 last week that raised some major concerns, and triggered me to contact VWCS and the dealer contacting VWUK, to query the situation. On Friday, after him and me contacting them, and me being told they are looking into my order, they told my dealer to keep an eye on the system. On checking it this morning he says my BW is now at unconfirmed BW37, so he hasn't actually spoken to VWUK at all today.
We'll see what happens but I have heard this before. I am still very sceptical, as my BW has moved back and forth and there is a pattern of it jumping forwards every time I have complained, only for it to drop back again soon afterwards.
So I'll believe it when I see it (stage 3 that is). Anyway, enough of me moaning about it.
-
Sorry to hear that Bec. That's just ridiculous.
I think what makes it worse is the lack of communication.
If VW were to turn round and say they were having problems sourcing the wheels and to expect a 3 month delay then you can at least make an informed decision. But I doubt any company would be this truthful as it would lose them plenty of customers.
Which is a pity.
-

Thanks Steven.
You're right, it's the lack of information that's the killer in this situation. I can't fault James for communication, he always is very prompt in getting back to me. It's just that he doesn't have any answers to give. I almost feel sorry for him.
It is as you say. If only VW would just be upfront about the delay, then I could make a decision, but I agree, they will never admit to something that may potentially lose them sales. So silence reigns.
I'm not unrealistic, I knew there was going to be a good, long wait, and was prepared for that, hence me ordering way back in Jan, but when the possibility of it turning into a possible 13 month wait came out of the blue last week, well, it was a bit too much!
I will stay positive and just hope that confirmation is forthcoming this week.
-
What will also make it worse for yourself is the fact you are a car nut
Being on here every day will be torture on one hand and relief on the other. Being able to forget about it for a while would certainly help but you've no chance of that

I'm not even convinced you can get to speak to anyone who knows. I spoke to VWUK and told them that 'BMW can deliver me a car before you estimate you'll begin to build one even though you've had my order for four months and I don't believe your estimates anyway. Give me something realistic or a reason to stick with you or I'm cancelling.' I just kept getting the unconfirmed build week parroted at me so I cancelled. If they'd have said, drop the wheels and you can have it in 8 weeks they'd have kept the sale.

Absolutely gitsy.
As you and Steven (p3asa) say, if they gave accurate and honest info, then people could make an informed decision. And yes, if they stated it was the wheels holding the order up, then I would probably switch to Cadiz and source the Prets separately. But VWUK will never admit or give a straight answer about any problems in order to protect their sales, and I'm sure they don't give a toss about the angry ramblings of a few car nuts on forums.
I don't blame you for cancelling your order. There is a limit to what you can take when being left in the dark with no idea what's going on.

The wait is ridiculous and unacceptable.
Perhaps your car has given birth to premature triplets who are now on life support and their mother is unfortunately dead.
Threaten them with cancellation and see if they react with alacrity and favourably.

Have you been at the whisky again Asker?
In that surreal scenario, I get 3 baby R-lings in place of one full sized one. Sounds like a lot of hard work, just think of all the constant detailing. I'm too old for all that
I mooted cancelling to my dealer last Friday, but I really don't think they care. They do so many broker deals that my little order is probably quite insignificant.
It won't be so bad if I get a confirmed BW, this week or next, but I have little faith in the system. It's a shame that BMW's don't rock my boat, otherwise there'd be a dust trail from the VW dealership to the BMW dealership '(and I'm not joking or being sarky when I say that).

The wait is ridiculous and unacceptable.

Or just get an S3 Hearse or even better an RS3 Mega Hearse. They are both rather tasty IMO.
Not been on the Scotch for a couple of days or had any alcohol. Boring Adam's Ale for me!

No hearse, normal or mega, for me, you know how blinkered I am over Golf's, it's an affliction. :embarrassed:
But your post has made me realise where I'm going wrong. I need alcohol, and in abundance!!! I'm not much of a drinker these days and it's been about a month since I last had a 'drink', but, if I get p!ssed I'm pretty sure I'll care a whole lot less about this R palaver. So that's the answer! Well, from Thursday onwards I will be dosed up on Maldivian cocktails so help is at hand.
Thanks Asker, you are a genius my sweet

Genius and insanity are two sides of the same coin! I am neither, I hope. But if you say so, I concur.
By the time you get your car, it being one of the triplets, it could be a Mk8!

Well my little genius, there may be some encouraging news. A member on vwroc in the same situation as me, has just informed me that he's had a communication today from VWCS, which states that all delayed cars have now been prioritised. This backs up what I was told about my car last week, and which saw my BW jump forwards from BW4 to BW37. However, the factory is shut this week (until 17th August) (lazy German workforce!), so will have to wait for further update. I'm good at waiting.
So it might yet still be a Mk7.
-
I could harness some of that genius or even the insanity.
I knew this was going too well. My car is here. I saw it at the dealers this morning still largely wrapped in its transport stuff. Cue me being excited. Asked dealer when can I have it - Friday. Then he dropped something of a bombshell. I've done a pre-reg deal, and I know most dealers need to keep the car for 3 months before selling. Mine has (I thought) come to some sort of arrangement as I'm picking the car up on Friday. Right?
Right. Only I can't have the V5 for 3 months. That's the bombshell. I'm not pleased on the basis that when the car transfers to me, I'd like the V5 please. Not as a matter of principle, but because its, kind of, like the law...
What I thought (had been widely told) was a reputable dealer, has gone down in my estimation slightly. And the deal on Friday is somewhat in jeopardy as I'm now waiting on a conversation with the Partner.

And this is first time your dealer has mentioned this?
Where would that affect you getting insurance. Would you be able to get insurance if you are not the registered owner for the first 3 months?
-
Yes Rebecca - first time it's been mentioned.
I'd had a Google about insurance implications and discovered that if you're not the registered keeper, of their spouse/ partner. some companies will have diffs over insurance. Not sure what my current company's view is, but don't want to have conversation on spec until I know what the score is on Friday.
But slightly pissed (actually majorly pissed) that the V5 issue wasn't pointed out till this morning.
-
I've no diffs about not being the first in the reg book - the basis of a pre-reg deal after all.
But (and without being an anorak about it) I'm a lawyer - road traffic law is major yawn - but the dealer is having a solo run on this.
V5 must be transferred on, well, transfer....

So are you looking at it sitting at the dealers for 3 months before you can legally take ownership? That will be a killer!!
-
What would you suggest? I'm a little pissed off...
-
Depending on the chat with the partner it could be a case of stick it up your...
And then, revenge!!!!
-
Salesman didn't get off to a good start.
Began by saying he'd be happy to register it to me as 1st owner, but the numbers (price) would need to change. I'm getting a reasonable (but not brilliant) discount as a it's going to be a pre-reg, but if I'd walked in and asked for a brand new car I'd have haggled for a comparable proportionate discount, so he can stick that argument up his a*s.
Sorry, just a little frayed after having seen the bloody car in the metal, and then they lob in these new issues.
-
I can well understand your frustration. Bloody dealers!!! What goes on in their heads?! (Or rather doesn't!).
Can you not bring pressure to bear on them to register you as the first owner, and honour the original price, as they have not previously made you aware of this requirement, despite having plenty of time to do so, and have led you to believe (if that is the case), that you could take delivery of the vehicle shortly after arrival at the dealership.
What is the partner likely to say? And what form would revenge take??
-
Where would that affect you getting insurance. Would you be able to get insurance if you are not the registered owner for the first 3 months?
Would that not be the same as a lease car? I would imagine it would be the leasing company's name on the V5 could be wrong though. I certainly know when I had a car through my work scheme I never even seen a V5 never mind knew what name was on it. But I did by a car that had been previously leased as it had the lease company name on it.
I gave my wife my Audi A1 when I changed to the Golf. I certainly wasn't changing the V5 ownership and adding another owner so its still in my name. Loads of company's still insure if your name isn't on the document but an awful lot won't touch it.
So are you looking at it sitting at the dealers for 3 months before you can legally take ownership? That will be a killer!!
You don't have to be the legal owner though to drive on the road.
Surely its their administration that has fecked up. Its on their side that BSG can't have the car for 3 months. So could they not give it to him just now for an extended test drive for 3 months?
-
Stage 7/7 text this morning 😁😁
Although will likely make the next 2 weeks until collection on 1st September drag!
-
very jealous vet, what was your build date ? mine was 27/7 and ive not had any texts since and tracker not moved from being built, really wanted my car for start of September :(

I think you could well be right. I thought the same about that being the case with leasing but as I've never leased a car, wasn't sure and didn't want to post inaccurate info up. I know you don't have to be the legal owner though. BSG is a laywer so if anyone can seek out the fine detail, it's him. Not that he should have to though, as I agree, it's the dealer's error and they should be doing whatever is necessary to sort it out so BSG can drive the car away this Friday.

What form of revenge? Something very... petty no doubt!
Actually it's good news. I sent an e-mail last night setting out the position and (from a quick scan through the legislation) my understanding of the law.
Dealer called today to say - actually, on balance we'll register the car to ourselves, but then when the paperwork comes in we'll give it to you straight away so keeper can be transferred. No mention now of three months.
I don't want to appear uncharitable, or cast any doubt on their reasoning, but this wasn't an admin cock-up. I suspect that setting out the legal position and pointing out that doing it the way they suggested actually results in the commission of (at least two) criminal offences may well have swung it. Registered keeper and owner are obviously two separate issues - and the keeper doesn't have to be the owner, but failing to notify a change of keeper on sale or disposal is an offence.
Those four years studying law weren't a total waste. The subsequent years working in it however - I wouldn't like to say :undecided:
But either way, delighted at the result - it's mine on Friday and I've promised not to dob them in
I imagine I'll not be getting a bunch of flowers though

I don't doubt it. Glad your years of legal training have not been entirely wasted and everything is back on track for Friday!

Cheers Rebecca.
First rule of legal stuff is don't get emotionally involved in the case.
That's fine until it's YOUR CAR!!

Mine started building on 25th July and left the factory on 30th July. I was BW30 but didn't start until the very end of that week. Try contacting VWUK on Twitter/Facebook for an update.

Cheers Websta - less than 24 hours to go!
-
I just tweeted Volkswagen UK asking them for an update and got a response 10 minutes later stating -
Hi Richard, your new car is scheduled to build in week 38 (w/c 14 Sept). This is unconfirmed and can change either way.
I’m still chasing my dealer to try and get some further information from them as they originally said it was build week 36 so upset that it’s slipped a further two weeks!
-
VW have said mine is unconfirmed week 38 too. I was initially told week 42 then 45 so I'll be amazed if it does get confirmed at that. However we are just over 4 weeks from week 38 so from what i understand if it does get confirmed at 38 it won't be long until we find out.
-
Picked mine up this afternoon.
I think I'm in love
-
Get some pics up of new car!
-
Will do. As soon as I work out how!

It looks likes we could be build buddies , Ive already got mental images of our cars being built back to back in Wolfsburg!

I am also scheduled for build week 38, Golf GTI, 3dr, Deep Black ordered on 15/07/2015. In theory us build week 38 peeps should get are confirmed build week text on Monday, fingers crossed!

There you go - not great pics, but I'll work on something better :)

Keep trying
If it's Photobucket, you need to copy and paste the IMG link (starts with url..). If Flickr, the BBC code.

Long time lurker here, yes some pics please BSG and thoughts on it, as its also a post BW22 car aswell, my black GTD is due to me in literally a couple of weeks, the wait has been agonising though. Heres my text dates just to give you guys some idea of the gaps between updates (obviously its not a given that theyre all the same)
Ordered car March 13th
02/07 Stage 3 build confirmed BW31
Stage 4 build in progress no text (showed on tracker though)
07/08 stage 5a in transit left factory
09/08 stage 5b shipping
12/08 stage 5c near uk
13/08 stage 6 arrived in uk
And then yesterday I got a second stage 6. All texts seem to come at literally 08:45
I was confirmed for BW31 on the tracker, BUT then if I logged in to the website it would show the week after so I think I was actually BW32.
A bit strange but hey its moving now.

Did you ask for delayed delivery to get the 65 plate?.
I ordered mine on 1st of July. Was informed of provisional BW39,then BW35 by the dealer.'Delivery by end of Sept'.I saw these provisional dates on his own order screen.
Now i'm told 'nothing concrete regarding a confirmed BW,we'll let you know'.Then i read a VW dealers post on here saying 'GTD's on average 18 week wait'.
I'm guessing the VW dealer i bought mine from was yanking my chain.Maybe i'll just cancel it and get a 330d.
-
Yeah I asked them to just hold fire until first week of Sept, they did tell me a few weeks ago that basically they had one in stock ready for delivery but it was a MY15 so I just said after waiting aslong as I have I may as well claim the Nav, winter pack etc at no extra cost.. Someones cancelled order obviously.
Yeah I would say end of Sept delivery for yourself is a little optimistic but then never say never, I was told 12-16 weeks for delivery, first unconfirmed BW23 then BW24 then BW29, and finally BW31 which ended up at BW32.. Crazyness! I guess really it all depends on how bad you want one, a 330D is certainly attractive and youll get it quicker for sure :D my last car Audi A5 Black edition was something like 16 weeks from order to delivery! God knows whats going on with VW.

Ok thanks. What happened with your build weeks is what i fear may happen to mine.Next thing it's the middle of Winter and i'm still driving my Beemer with Summer tyres on.
I suspect that rather than having over capacity like a lot of manufacuturers and the costs that it brings. They have gone for under capacity and said 'take it or leave it',which is fair enough. But they should be more upfront about delivery dates rather than just stringing people along.I've put down a £200 deposit so i'll see how it goes.I'll wait for another couple of weeks.
-
I know what you mean, I wouldnt be suprised if it was Nov/Dec to be honest but im no expert, im just going on personal experience and from what other peoples posts have said, I guess also from I have read that its to do with dealer allocation but I dont know much about that, having never driven a GTD it wants to be something special I tell you.. Hang in there im sure it will be worth it. But at the same time its a major pain for what I would consider to be a 'normalish' car.

I went through to the VW dealers tonight.Just to remind myself how much i want my GTD.They had a couple of 15 platers on the forecourt. They just look cool without trying.Mine is a 3 door in carbon grey with the standard 18* wheels. So i guess i'll just look at pictures of them for the time being. :nerd:
I also got a cracking fixed trade in price.Plus my M135i is quite a good runaround for now.
The best things come to those who wait.Maybe VW should use that in their ads.
-
If they used that phrase I know of a lady on here would think they are taking the p!ss out of her.
Carbon is a great colour I agree.

Yes,i've been reading that story.Pretty shoddy show indeed.I'd have walked away from it months ago.

I love carbon grey! I tried to change mine but because my deal was locked in before the BW22 updates they basically told me if I were to change the colour then I would have to pay the inflation hike as well. So im stuck with standard black unfortunately but with some proper detailing Im sure I can keep it looking half decent. Besides my last car was grey as well! (Im trying to convince myself that I dont need it) great choice! And youre right they look amazing without trying, but not in your face.

I think they look good in any colour. The 2 i saw at the dealers tonight were a black one and a white one (GTD's).Both looked superb.I couldn't help but notice that both were 15 plate,5-9k miles, 5 door manuals with no extras at all.Yet were not far off the price of my new 3 door with £2k of extras.
I am beginning to see method in the apparent waiting time VW madness.'Treat them mean, keep them keen'.
-
Anyone had bw38 confirmed?
-
Totally agree, I dont think there is actually a bad colour to be honest, the next 2 weeks are going to kill me, even though ive waited since March! Ha! Well im glad to see youre actually going to stick with your choice now and ride it out :D just focus on other things and time will fly! Like buying £100's of detailing equipment. :D ill be sure to let you know my thoughts once it finally arrives.

Anyone had bw38 confirmed?
Nothing yet unfortunately.
-
Just been advised by dealer of confirmed build week 37 - ordered 4th July - no text or email notification and still with the factory on the tracker - mustn't grumble I suppose given some of the delays people are experiencing

Nothing for me either

The Wolfburg factory was closed last week and reopened today so it's possible notifications are a bit delayed.
I emailed my dealer today to get an update on my R and he says it's still showing as unconfirmed BW37. He says he's got another car (a GTD) that was showing as estimated BW36 last week, which today has just been confirmed at 36, and so he says they should be scheduling week 37 production during this week. So by that reckoning maybe BW38 will get confirmed after that?

That's good news, thank you Booth for the update, please let us all know if you get your notification through this week
-
Cheers for sharing that info Booth11, sounds like it's not as clear cut as getting your confirmed text 4 weeks before build date. It could be another 2 weeks until we get a text judging by that, or it could be like you say that they are behind on updates due to the break. Fingers crossed it stays on track!
-
I think we will all see the fireworks over Booth's house when the BW is confirmed

Well, not to tempt fate but I've got a packet of sparklers at the ready.
And if I don't get a confirmed BW soon, there'll be one giant rocket heading from my back garden to Wolfsburg.
And of course I will keep you all updated on PROJECT:R or as it's become known in my household, PROJECT: GrrrR

You're a cruel man MH. I may have to change the name to PROJECT: R-MK8, and be the first to start the forum's Mk8 sub-section. It's never too early.

Just received text and email update - tracker says build starts 7th September and the email says 14th - either way it's movement :)

That's great news Greerso!
So the tracker is putting you at Build week 37 and the email at week 38, gives me hope that my build week 38 car should get an update by at least Tuesday next week.

Stage 7 this morning :D :D :D
-
Well, well, well!! Just got stage 3 notification.
Email says BW38 - confirmed for production week commencing 14/9/15, and tracker says BW37 - week commencing 7/9/15. Typical VW consistency!!
But who cares, it's finally confirmed! I'll light my sparkler now!

 :afro:
I'm almost lost for words!
Shouldn't you be underwater or chatting up a waiter instead of hanging out on here though?
-
You sure its not MH winding you up :lipsrsealed:
But congrats at long last!!
Still a stupid amount of time for an everday hatchback mind............

Thanks Mr Ex.
Haha, I've been underwater plenty, but have refrained from chatting up the waiter since my beloved other half is never more than 5 feet away from me!
Reason I'm hanging out on here (apart from sharing my much anticipated confirmation), is that for the last 24 hours, the Maldives are having their worst and heaviest non-stop rainfall for 18 years. It's the wet season here, which normally means a nice thunderstorm for 5 mins of an evening. But not this time!!!! There's nearly as much water on the island as the sea surrounding it!
Blimey, I'd better sell my Mk6 now!

Lol! It did cross my mind that MH may have hacked my email and phone as a cruel practical joke!!! But I think he's too nice a guy at heart to carry out such a such a dastardly deed!

Thanks Websta. I've asked dealer to confirm which one, but my hunch is it's the tracker :-)
I've just had the pleasure of emailing my dealer to update him. And to tell him I'll stop harassing him for a while.
-
My dealer has just confirmed it is BW37 - wc 7/9/15, so tracker is the correct one. Website still showing as BW38.
-
Rebecca:
Told you so it would be 37 whilst suffering my crossed limb constrictions on your behalf!

Asker, you did indeed! And how right you were
Your convolutions have not been in vain! Now, (as I have just suggested elsewhere), you must immediately pour yourself a very, very large glass of fine Whisky, to ease out the cricks and cramps you selflessly suffered on my behalf.
-
So judging from this forum, the tracker date is the correct one to take?
My tracker says the 7th and my email says the 14th, which one is right
Anddd, roughly how long is it from building to being at my dealer (newcastle). I'm getting too impatient now

Congratulations! The dealers are now taking preorders for the MK8, better get your name down now!
There's nothing like tropical rain on holiday - as long as they don't run out of booze, that's the main thing.

You definitely win the award for the most patient member of the forum, I hope your dealer has got some decent goodies planned?!

Someone on here was 10 days from build start to at the dealers but it must have been lucky getting the train out to Emden then straight on a ferry.
Anything from 2 - 4 weeks is more realistic.

I love tropical rain, but this is pushing it!! Booze - I can take it or leave it. I'm not one of those Brits who suddenly has to drink everything in sight because it's holiday time!!

At last!! There is light at the end of the VW tunnel
Pleased for you and your dignified patience. Most would have thrown the toys out of the pram months ago !!

Rebecca - that's brilliant!!
If anyone deserves a new car, it's you :)

You mean you drink like that normally
Actually Americans are the worst. Not here (it's too far for them, fortunately), but in the Caribbean, they fill up their oversized 'sports cups' with booze, and get VERY loud!!!

Rebecca - that's brilliant!!
If anyone deserves a new car, it's you :)
Cheers BSG. Everyone deserves their new cars, and as Rhyso said a few posts back, it is a silly amount of time to wait for a Golf. If anything else had taken my fancy, I might have abandoned it. Now I am looking forward to getting it and hope it lives up to expectation.
.....................................................................
Thank you to everyone for your lovely words......
And so good to be able to legitimately post in this thread!

It's really seemed to cheer you up Memsahib B which is great news in itself.
Hopefully now you'll really enjoy your holiday with an extra spring in your step.
Not even an occasional drop of tropical rain will dampen your spirits now!
Time to get the GTI advertised and shifted when you get back and count down the days knowing it will still be a mk7 after all and even on a 65 plate too!!!
The car will definitely live up to expectations, it's a really great bit of kit.

You know it has really cheered me up, Mr Ex! Sorry if I've been a bit of a miserable cow of late. :embarrassed: (if that's what you're trying to tell me  )
I am thoroughly enjoying my holiday, it's beautiful and relaxing. And coincidentally the BW luck seems to have worked here and swept away the rains. Hot, hot, hot today, phew!
I had all but sold my Mk6 GTI a few weeks ago to someone who came on this forum looking for one, but a problem on the buyer's side (not connected to my car) meant they had to pull out. Anyway, I have another potential buyer for my Mk6. Another forum member. So hopefully things will work out, and if not, I'll get it advertised.
And turn my attention to the Mk7 R........
...and now....,
the book is open for bets on which 19" tyres it will be shod with??? (but that's a whole other thread )

maybe its many years of working with females that means I can pick up on subtext or maybe I've inherited psychological profiling from my father(!!!) but your frustrations were affecting other things Ms B and things were generally getting you down :smug: and now we have a much cheerier you which is much more *you*
The posts from the other guys on the subject over the last couple of pages sum it up very well.
I think, a bit like MH's huge saga, it will be a bit of an anticlimax for everyone once your car actually does arrive - our little soap opera will be over!!!
Maybe with the way your luck has turned you'll get a set of Contnental's finest! But a bit like detailing, tyres are a necessary evil and a subject that cures my insomnia no end. Zzzzzzz...
(I find my Bridgestones "ok" by the way, maybe I just don't drive the car hard enough?)

You are a wise owl. Your insights into the female emotional psyche, could make you either a very wonderful husband or a truly terrible one! I'm gonna go with the former.
Flippin' Heck, have I been that bad? :embarrassed: I apologise wholeheartedly to all. Work has (and is) very stressful atm and I guess I just made the car debacle the focal point for all my pent up negative energy. Anyway, the last thing I wanted was for my R order to become a 'soap opera', that's really not me at all.
But onwards and upwards and normal cheery service is resumed, though I cannot guarantee it will last forever as, that's life!
So, tyres and detailing make you want to Snoozzzze. Which bits of a car do thrill you Mr Ex?
Btw, I really appreciate all the posts from the guys on here, and there a a few special people (I won't name names) that really make this place.
-
apparently Wolfsburg factory was closed last week hence why production has been slow. Mine is at Emden waiting to be shipped. Was really hoping it may arrive by start of September but now im doubtful.
-
Blimey Rebecca at this rate I may have sold mine before your arrive
I have booked a reconasense trip to the Frankfurt motorshow to review replacement options

I'm far from wise Ms. B, but it was 25 years in June that I was dragged kicking and screaming down the aisle so I must have done something right not to have been booted out by now! I think it's my agony aunt role to the 'women of a certain age' at work that has earned me most of my stripes though
My workplace is like a REAL soap opera at times.
But I meant soap opera in a nice way for your car order, same with MH's it has kept everyone gripped with the plot twists and turns and the emotional roller coaster. More of a light hearted northern soap opera with a bit of dry humour that wins people's hearts than a miserable East End soap opera!
This place is pretty good. Like you'd imagine Golf owners to be really; nobody really has anything to prove, everyone chips in with questions and advice, plenty of humour and quite good self moderation (gives James an easier ride!)
That gives me an idea for another thread...
Back on topic.

I have a sudden feeling of deja vu, you're nothing if not a bit predictable Mr W!

That's why all the BW37 confirmation texts are a few days late and coming in the same week as BW38 ones.
Stay patient, hopefully it will be sailing across the sea very soon.

Are you still thinking of an R400? It seems to be a very long time coming!!!

Well your menopausal lady colleagues are very fortunate to have you in their midst, as are we (men and women).  I'm not going to ask, but I'm now intrigued as to your job (and your father's).
Much belated congratulation to you and Mrs Ex on your 25 years. It's quite an achievement by today's standards, so whatever you have been doing for the last quarter of a century , keep doing it. Me and my long suffering man have managed 24 so far, but somehow we forgot to tie the knot along the way, lol. An actual marriage ceremony is not my scene, can't be doing with all that palaver, and could spend the money on a car instead.
And 24 years ago is roughly the last time I watched a soap opera. But, yes, better a northern one with a large dose of very dry humour, that doesn't take itself too seriously, than the abject misery of the East End alternative. I'm afraid the first few notes of that theme tune make me want to reach for the razor blade!!
This place is truly great, and James is the best kind of moderator, although I think we need to chuck in the odd rogue thread /post now and again just to make sure he's paying attention.
And back on topic .......wigit's Frankfurt beano - well, he's carrying out a valuable mission on behalf of all of us. It's a dirty job but wigit's got to do it.

R400 will need to be limited numbers for me to buy it, M2 is really tugging at the heart strings, RS3 still leaves me cold, I have a GTS or GT4 hankering
-
Congratulations Bec. All that waiting will be a distant memory soon like your holiday
25 years married myself later in the year with 30 years together all in. I've been trying to see if she would wear celebrating with a "Silver R" but so far she's resisted.
I must try harder.
-
Thanks Steven :P
Congrats to you too in advance of your Silver Anniversary! All these long marriages/relationships!! You know this forum may have had a hand in their continuing success. Certainly in my house, whenever my partner thinks about moaning (surprisingly not very often) how much time I spend on here, he remembers the alternative is me banging on about cars to him instead, and counts his blessings!! Haha, makes for a harmonious relationship.
You must try harder for the silver R! Smart way to link it to the anniversary btw, lol. Come on, you can convince your good lady wife. But perhaps you need to stow away a nice surprise gift for her in the glovebox to keep things sweet!

got my 5b today. does this mean its on a ship or ready to be shipped ?

got my 5b today. does this mean its on a ship or ready to be shipped ?
Waiting to be shipped:
5b: in transit:shipping - at Emden waiting a boat. Normally received 48 hours after 5a.
5c: in transit:nearly here - on boat to either Grimsby, Tyne or Sheerness depending on dealer location. At this stage VW can give you the name of the boat, but it sometimes skips this stage. Now states 10 days to dealer.
6. Arrived in the UK - as stated, takes up to 10 days apparently, although they try and do it within 7.
7. At dealer - just needs PDI and valet and is ready for you.

Anyone had bw38 confirmed?
Nothing yet unfortunately.
Same for me, no text or email
Nothing for me either
I have tweeted VW and I'm now unconfirmed 46!

cheers booth. Going on holiday next Tuesday so wanted all the paperwork done and the car to have arrived so I can have it delivered on 3/4 sept. Fingers crossed it gets put on a ship quickly.

Thats rubbish news, Bungleaio, will be gutted if mine has dropped back as well. Tempted to tweet vw but might leave it until next week, ignorance is bliss and all that. Can you confirm what spec you have ordered?
-
Welcome to the wonderful world of VW build schedules. If you get one under 5-6 months it is a bonus you get used to it, not happy about it but used to it. If you want a Volkswagen just factor in the long wait and sit tight. To be fair falling under the spell of the online tracker is a relatively new instrument of torture VW have employed just to add to the misery and one that should avoid at all costs if you want keep your blood pressure down !!
-
Thats rubbish news, Bungleaio, will be gutted if mine has dropped back as well. Tempted to tweet vw but might leave it until next week, ignorance is bliss and all that. Can you confirm what spec you have ordered?
It changes quite a bit, I've gone 42, 45, 38 and now 46. I think the 38 was just giving me false hope, I only ordered a month ago.
At the end of the day being in the queue to have a brand new car built to my specification isn't a bad place to be but it is crazy how long it takes. A hand built rare sports car then maybe but what is essentially a family hatchback largely built by robots it does seem a long time.
I asked my dealer to make sure my order is correct and he just said it was all ordered as per my online spec that I built on the configurator, I've not seen anything hardcopy from the actual ordering system though. I'm not sure if VW could help via twitter due to the short message length?
-
It does seem crazy definately!
Can you post the spec you have ordered? There has been previous posts from people regarding delays for the 19" alloys, DSG boxes and certain options etc. If we have similar specs then I guess I will definately be in the same boat as you.

Ask your dealer to send you a screen shot of the order page from the system.
It will confirm the spec, colour and options you've requested if you want a 'hard copy'

That's what i got a while after i'd placed my order. It showed an 'original BW 39 then beside it a current BW 35.So he said it had been brought forward quite a bit.
Then i got another e mail saying the current(unconfirmed) BW was 38.
So when i queried it they said as soon as they had a confirmed date they would let me know.
Anyway reading all of the negative stuff on here about lack of confidence in BW Bull.I took to talking directly to VW UK on Twitter today.I was getting ready to pull the order as i don't like people fannying me around.I didn't get where i am today by fannying around i tell you.
They gave me a confirmed BW38.I asked why the Tracker hadn't updated and they said it takes a while to catch up with real-time.They were very quick to reply to me.About 5-10 mins.
So if anyone wants it straight from the horses mouth Twitter is the way to go.

That's still better than my order, I ordered middle of June and it's still with the factory, no confirmed BW yet

I read a VW dealers post on the TDI sub forum. He reckoned on an average 18 week for the GTD.
I know the GTD sells a a whole lot more than the GTI,especially with fleet orders etc.
I think if i hadn't got something concrete today i was going to cancel it.I just hope that VW UK mean what they say.Especially now i've got it in writing.
You should e mail them tomorrow.Or Tweet or whatever. They were certainly ahead of my dealers info.I reckon the dealers just check the( out of date) Tracker available to the rest of us.

I feel your frustration. It's the not knowing anything after so long that pisses me off.I have nightmares of having to buy Winters for my M Lite then the GTD showing up a month later.

Well I had a fairly sh*te day!
I have been trying to get hold of my Sales Executive at the dealer for the last week with no joy, so I rang into the main switchboard and asked if they could transfer me over to him only to be told that he no longer worked for the dealership!!!!
To say I was pi**ed off was an understatement! I had no contact from the dealer to let me know he wasn't working for them anymore and there was no out of office on his VW email account, it hadn't even been deactivated!
I asked them to informed me who would be taking over his role with my order and I was told they would call me back, I had to ring in three times today and each time they told me they would call me back, guess what, I never received that call!
I'm going to call them again in the morning and see if they finally give me some answers, if not I'm driving straight down there to have a massive go about their p*ss poor excuse for customer service!
Rant over

That's pretty poor.Same thing with the salesman who sold me my car leaving a few weeks after. At least the salesman who took over the sale e mailed me to tell me he'd left, and that i would be dealing with him.How odd.I'm confirmed BW38 too.

Finally got through to the dealer this morning and have been told my build week has been moved to 39 but it is still unconfirmed
-
Since placing my order I've never been so aware of what week of the year it is!
I asked vw via twitter how many golfs Wolfsburg produce a week and they said they didn't have that information :(
-
My weekly asking on twitter has given me a positive result this week, I'm now confirmed for build week 39. There's no update on the tracker but they have said this should change at some point next week.
My build weeks have gone 42, 45, 39, 46 and now 39. I would love to know the reasoning about the variance but I'm happy that it's ahead of schedule, fingers crossed it should be about 3 months from order to delivery

Great news. My build weeks were similar yo-yo ones too, going 28-29-48-29-35-4-37. Mad! But that's all over and done with now thank God. Don't think I'll ever forget that number sequence though. Enough to drive a person insane! 3 months is pretty good going for a Golf.
-
My order was placed on the 21st of July and my BW has just been confirmed as the 7/9.
Pretty impressed with the turn around time!

I just had my stage 3 confirmed this morning via text (WC 21/09) however my email stated it was a week later (28/09), the tracker has the week of the 21/09 as well which agrees with what my dealer told me yesterday (build week 39).
I'm hoping this means I will have the car before the 09/10/15 as I'm going away over that weekend and would want to take the new car with me, can you track the departure times from the port of Emden that far in advance to see if my build week will coincide with a shipping time from Emden to Sheerness?
-
Mine just coming up as 21 September and I am hoping it arrives before mid October when my A6 goes back to lease company..gulp ! Out of interest I had a letter from Audi pointing out 30% of the cars returned to them did not have the correct tyres fitted ie winter tyres not accepted, wrong speed rating , not premium make and so on ! I have Goodyears which are fine seemingly.Knew about the winter tyres as I had to fit four brand new summer once to a previous Merc that went back mid winter a couple of years ago.
-
I've had my stage 3 confirmed today, it says week 40 which is a week later than vw told me yesterday but either is fine by me.
From what I've determined that's just the week that it's due to start to be built. It could be first thing Sunday morning or late Saturday night it all starts. Once it rolls off the line it will take about 4 weeks to reach the dealer, then they pdi it.
-
24 hours to go, and I will be picking up my new GTI tomorrow at 10am. It feels like a lifetime since I placed my order on 24th April.
I can't wait!
How many others are excited for collection day tomorrow?

Sorry mate but it will be about 4 weeks from build to delivery. We are the same week and I'm not expecting to get the car much before the end of october.
Have you had anything from your dealer saying build is confirmed? I've not heard anything since I placed the order back in july.
-
Got my gtd about 10 days after it was built so this 4 weeks is nonsense. If it's built and sent to Emden it could be on a boat within 2 to 3 days, one day over on the ship and then a few days dockside. Depends how quick your dealer is at receiving new cars too.
-
Hi all! New to the forum and thought I'd say hi. So, Hi! Just got my build date confirmed w/c 28/9. My first Golf GTi. 'Citin!

10 days would be awesome! Fingers crossed for that :)

There have been people, like you, who have received their cars less than 4 weeks after build, similarly there are cases where cars have taken much longer than that, but it's fair to say the average is about 4 weeks, and as you say, it can depend on how quick the dealer turns it rounds. So it's hardly nonsense is it.

Enroute for collection

Hi all,
A few weeks ago I ordered a GTI PP DSG and got my stage 3 text and email on Friday (3rd Sept) The email said week commencing 5th October, but the website shows 28th September, not heard from the dealer yet, so not really sure which to believe, either way its moving along much faster than when I ordered my current GTI in April 2013.
I think a few other people on here had a similar confusion between the email and website showing different build weeks.
Cheers,
Phil

Hello Phil,
It seems to be a common problem with VW that the tracker and their emails have different build weeks on them.
Other members of the forum have doubled check with their dealers and it seems the online tracker has the correct date which is normally the earlier date; in your case it looks like you should be build week 40 (28th September).

I can confirm this as well Phil, mine was received on Friday and shows the same as yours. Dealer has confirmed the earlier week.
-
Excellent, so it's going to be even sooner :-) the dealer originally said it was likely to be December time for delivery, but if it's being build at the end of this month, it might be with me in October :-)

Was a bit disappointed not to have received an update yesterday - build week confirmed for 07/09/15 - was hoping for some movement.
However just received update - progressed to 5a in transit/left the factory - whoo hoo - good luck if you're on this build week - especially if you've been waiting forever
Anyone want to buy a Leon - I better get the finger out

I'm also confirmed build week this week 7/9 (and have been waiting forever!), but no update/movement as yet. Guess it could be built any time this week, but hopefully not Friday afternooon. :undecided:
Sold my Mk6 GTI last Sat, so all ready for the R now. Driving an A3 free hire car till then, which I'm already sick of. Seats are soo uncomfortable!

Saw your post on parting with the Mk6 (which was looking awesome) and was thinking I must get a move on with selling my car :embarrassed:

Yes not long now for either of us (I hope). Yours must have been built first thing yesterday.
I was relatively lucky selling my Mk6 considering I hadn't even yet advertised it anywhere. Had one very interested buyer back in July who came on here looking for a Mk6 and was nearly a done deal but he had to drop out for other reasons. Then an existing forum member was asking for opinions on a couple of used cars and I popped up my spec (which matched his) and hey presto! All worked out very well. Just as well really as in a poor position trade-in wise having purchased the R through a broker with max discount and no p/x deal as they don't do them. With no bargaining power I would have no doubt been offered very low end price by a dealer I expect. So was important to secure reasonable private sale. And the forum has been invaluable in that respect.
It's the first time I've sold a car privately, and was very smooth process plus managed to do all the negotiations/sorting whilst I was 4000 miles away on hols! However I know it can be a PITA with time wasters etc. So good luck with selling the Leon, hope it goes smoothly for you. Are you on any Seat forums that you can advertise on as well as the usual places like Pistonheads and Autotrader?
Btw, what are you getting? GTI, GTD, R? I'm sure it's on a post somewhere, lol.
-
I also got my 5A today!
What's the timeframe for getting to the dealer?
I was told by the dealer if it was registered and collected within September then I would qualify for the Golf Icon event, what are the chances of that?
And does anyone have the IMO/name of the vessel's that pick up the cars from Emden? I want to track them

Up to 4 weeks from start of build to dealer though it can be less sometimes.

I think you're the lucky one with that specced R on the way!

Thanks. Call me superstitious, but I'll be happy when it's built and is on a ship heading to Sheerness.

But my honest answer is yes I will probably have a go at that and give the tracker a rest :embarrassed: - don't know what I'll do when the car arrives

I agree with you. I have never even looked at the online tracker before with any of my previous GTI orders, let alone tracked a ship. But somehow this particular order has become a something of a mission and I must see it through to the end!
-
Pretty sure i've found my ship, City of Sunderland, arriving Emden on and arriving at the Tyne on the 14th
Surely thats got to be the right one? (Newcastle Dealer)

That would be one of the right ships for a Newcastle dealership (Benfield, I assume?). They move very quickly from port of Tyne to North East dealerships. You might even get your mitts on it a week on Monday if Benfield pull their finger out and PDI it sharpish.

That would be great if it did, but am realistically expecting October. I'm away the first weekend of Oct, Sod's Law it's ready that weekend!! Looking forward to it now.

Have you checked both trackers?
Relieved my Stage 3 text this morning. Confirmed build week 5 Oct, not too bad considering I ordered 24 Aug, plus I received my text whilst in Menton (France)
PS what's the 2 Trackers? I know only of the one on VW website??

There's the 'Track my order' on the website (which is showing accurate BW's). Then there's the one in the 'My Volkswagen Account - my cars' part of website where you have to login. Of late this seems to be showing a BW later, than the other but matches the email, which is incorrect. How difficult is it for VW to match the build week info up.

Correct, Benfield Silverlink, ahhhhhhh this is going to be the longest week ever.

Congratulations Bec it will be here before you know it. The thrill is always in the chase anyway

Hallelujah! Stage 5a at last. The beast is built!
There, see, what was all the fuss about? Such a drama queen for all these months, tut...
I'll save the full congrats for when you've handed over the cash and have the keys in your hands. The boat might sink yet...

Haha, Steven. Haha, Mr Ex. It's your boundless p!ss taking and rib-tickling humour that has keep me going through the chase.
And some chase it has been. My R likes to play very hard to get. If it was a bloke I would've given up long, long ago.
Assuming the boat stays afloat and makes it into dock, it will doubtless be an anticlimax when I finally get it. You know I might not even bother posting any pics...............
Yeah, right!
-
R's are worth chasing but blokes are ten a penny and are even less reliable than ten year old Citroens. That's the main difference!
I think your R is just a bit shy and knows how much it's going to be in the limelight when it hits UK shores. I hope the photo hosting sites have bought in plenty of bandwidth ready for its appearance!

Mr Ex, you mustn't compare yourself to an ageing Gallic heap. I'm sure you are much better than that.
I'll try not to scare my bashful R by thrusting a camera at it, Paparrazzi style!

My BW 38 confirmed build date(w/c 14 Sep) has just changed to.'Your car has been built and has left the factory'!.I guess they must have been doing overtime this weekend or something!.Good times!.

Good news! Yes, they must be slogging over the weekends as someone else got a stage 4 - build in progress - for their R today too (though they were BW37!)
And so they bloody well should be to bring these wait times down.

Yes maybe all of the cancelled orders due to the waiting times have made them pull their finger out.
Just hope they aren't cutting corners on the quality side of things.I wouldn't imagine though.Maybe mine was built on Friday afternoon?
You should get a medal for your patience.I was ready to pull the plug after 2 months.
I'm off out in my M Lite to rack up some more miles for the next owner.I'm going to miss it.
-
It's pleasing to see a bit of movement here at last.
Maybe the factory are doing a bit of a right hand drive run at the moment(?).
I was speaking to the manager of a hire company during the week and they're expecting 21 R's within the next month (all from one dealer from what I could tell. He wasn't sure if it was Inchcape or Blade.

Could be.I can imagine if they were going to do anything in as large a batch as possible,it would be RHD.
They must have to do quite a bit of machine re-setting to do it.

Definitely on overtime - I was at stage 3 on Monday with confirmed build week beginning 7th Sept - received 5a on Tuesday and got stage 7 notifications by text and email at 8.30 this morning - could be beating the dealers anticipated early October delivery at this rate :smug:
-
What was your timeframe for each stage?
-
What was your timeframe for each stage?
Ordered 4th July - heard nothing until 18th Aug when I got build week confirmation (week beginning 7th by text and week beginning 14th on the email)??
Got 5a left the factory/in transit on the 8th Sept and stage 7 this morning - missed a couple of stages along the way but happy enough.

Yeah my email had the same thing, mine's still waiting to get on the boat i imagine, haven't heard anything since 5B, but apart from that my dates are pretty much identical to yours

Probably a different boat - I'm in Northern Ireland - not sure what route that would be

Such a common car now, not sure I want it anymore
In all seriousness it is refreshing to see the movement on here after things remaining static for so long for many. Despite my epic wait I do not begrudge anyone getting their car in as short a time as possible.
There should be lots of nice arrival pics in a few weeks time. Looking forward to seeing them, and hearing everyone's thoughts on their new motors, be it GTD/GTI or R.

Greerso it will be interesting to see how long yours takes to arrive at dealers from being built?? Mine is due to be built week 41 so would give me an idea on timeframe.
You with Agnews Mallusk?

Cossieian - yes - they contacted me this morning talking about a week - will know for sure later this week :)

Still waiting for 5b! It's been a week nearly since 5a. Maybe it got lost somewhere between Wolfsburg and Emden. :undecided:
-
It must be quite random how they generate these build stage notifications. Some people seem to miss 4 and some don't.
Maybe they just noticed it is an English car so they've sent the YTS lad to rummage at the back of the storeroom for the last few sets of Bridgestones?

P Seems despite the cars being built, things continue to be slow. No change there then! Hope we aren't going to encounter the backlog at Emden problems there were earlier this year!!

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if you get a call from your dealer to say it has arrived. That tracker is just an instrument of torture that we constantly pin all our hopes on and it craps on us at every turn !!
Sooner they bin it the better

Couldn't have put it better myself JB.
I'm going to email my dealer in the morning. I have to anyway, to set out in black and white the 'what not to do' instructions for my car. Gently peel transport stickers ONLY. PDI it. No washing of ANY kind.
He's going to love me.
-
Ooh, my car has been released from the Twilight Zone, and made it to port. 5b today.

Great news Booth... I will follow your progress with great interest as my R (like yours) went to 5b this very morning.
Dealer was expecting mid October delivery so it seems like everything is on track.

Ah, great news for you too Gung-Ho. Which port will yours come into?
I've just emailed my dealer with the pre-collection instructions.
• Carefully emove transport stickers ONLY. No abrasive removal of glue.
• Car to be left unwashed and not prepared in any way (PDI aside)
He already thinks I'm a nutter and this is not going to help.
-
Not sure which Port this time roundt? But when I tracked my GTi a couple of years ago it came into Sheerness on the 'Autorunner'.
Don't blame you at all for giving your dealer strict pre-delivery instructions. My GTi was delivered to me with the transportation pucks still in-situ... I was driving around for a month with them left in!!! They didn't do a very good job with the sticker glue residue marks as well. I'm still finding marks now that I can't shift. The rear window cup suction marks are the worse lol!

Yes I remember Transport Puck-gate. Thanks for reminding me, I'll mention that to the dealer, just to cover all bases.
They can leave all the glue on, I have a massive can of Tardis at the ready.

It'll probably break loose from it's container and glug, glug, glug to the depths of the ocean floor!

Don't get 'excited' as such with new cars, certainly not a fan of that "I'm ready to go home now" car unveiling palava. Low key back of car park handover do me fine. As long as it's not raining, not dark so I can see the car properly to check it over, that's all good. Initial detail aside, I just want to drive it! Let's just say the Audi A3 hire car and I are not soulmates!

Had an email from the dealer this evening saying my R has been assigned to a boat today, and should arrive in UK early next week, so he's hoping it will be here and ready to collect before the end of this month. Sounds optimistic, but I'm not complaining.

Hey Booth! If what your dealer is telling you is true that's Brilliant News... Can't see any Vehicle Carriers currently in port (Emden) but the vehicle carrier vessel "Emden" is expected to arrive next week on the 22nd. Just wondering if this is the boat your vehicle has been assigned to.
I'm hoping mines gonna be on there as well (although I've heard nothing from my dealer to confirm this).
-
I thought it went 5a left factory, 5b on the boat, 5c nearly at the UK, 6 in the UK, 7 at the dealer?
-
When I was tracking the boats, often there was nothing scheduled for the next few days then all of a sudden one would appear.
It was probably run by the same computer allocating VW's Golfs
@Bungleaio
5a: in transit:left the factory - on it's way to Emden.
-

I asked him if he could tell me which boat. To my shame I fibbed and said it was because my young daughter wanted to track it for fun, which is partly true, but more to make me sound slightly less sad. :embarrassed:
He said he had not noticed the name of the boat (on their Volkswagen system), for a vehicle being shipped from Emden to Sheerness docks, and that it does not take long to ship. He said he'd get the name of the boat on Monday if the car wasn't already in the UK by then.
Fingers crossed both ours are on the seas very soon.

The time between 5a and 5b for mine was 1 week (7 days) rather than the average 48 hours, as stated in Steven's (p3asa) post. Things must be a bit slower than normal at the moment
-
Have you checked both trackers?
Yep, checked both. Still stage 3, but.........
Hallelujah! Stage 5a at last. The beast is built!
At last, some positive movement  Might even be a September delivery if you are lucky !!
Congratulations Rebecca
What did I say ?? Looks like you could get it by the end of the month after all !!
It will all be worth it as soon as you get your detailing hands on it !!
Can't believe I have had mine 6 months already
-
The African Highway arrived at Sheerness this afternoon (1500 hrs) from Emden.
Maybe on that ?

That 6 months has gone by quick! Some people would be looking to chop it in now.

Dealer has confirmed my R will be on African Highway which, on Marine Traffic app, appears to be in Emden now. Hopefully be on that shortly.
-
UPDATE: Scratch last post - it's arrived in Sheerness! Not had a text yet, dealer has just emailed me.
-
Hooray...not long now.
Passed a lorry load but heading coast bound on the M2
-
I just received a call from my dealer to let me know my car had already been built and is waiting in Emden for a boat!!
My car was build week 39, so it has been built much earlier than I was expecting, however I have not received any text messages and the tracker has not been updated on the VWUK website.
I’m both excited and nervous now that my dealer is telling the truth!
-

Mine could be at Sheerness a week or so if they are busy, then dealer has to PDI it, so could be couple weeks yet. Annoyingly I'm away the first weekend of Oct which is probably when it will be ready.

Well this is start of week 39! Tracker and website build weeks have been out of sync for a while. I had tracker showing week 37 and website as 38. 37 it was! If your dealer has more up to date info then no reason to doubt he/she. The tracker is notoriously slow to catch up, mine is still showing 'shipping' but dealer says it's arrived in UK.

It could be at the dock for up to a week, but it shouldn't be. As long as they've put in the transfer request, then it'll be put onto a transporter and delivered. And as soon as it arrives at your dealers they can pdi it in a few hours. Anything longer than that they are talking mince. Given the wait you've had, I'd expect them to do it asap out of courtesy.
When I waited an eternity for my GTI after being p!ssed around by VW, my dealer said it was arriving this morning and I could have it in a few days. After a brief phone call from mrs matchboy given she was sick and tired of hearing me moaning, it was ready to be collected 2 hours later. And you've waited longer than I did!

Agree. They are just covering their arses! He knows I want it asap and yes, after waiting so long I should bloody well hope they put in the request and PDI it as a priority. Apart from PDI, it's not as if they have to spend any time prepping it other than peeling off the stickers, as I've told them to leave well alone.
Said they should have the reg no from DVLA tommorow. Hope it's better than the last plate I had. Then I shall sort out GAP insurance from ALA.

Thank you for the information Matchboy, makes me feel much better about the updates!
I'm due another call from the dealer on Wednesday with the next update, hopefully there will be another boat coming into Emden sometime this week, I’ve already told him I have very particular requirements when it comes to my PDI; I don’t want any post production swirl marks due to a crappy wash!
I’m going to get my PDI checklist ready and printed out ready for the pickup date in the next few weeks, do not want to be driving away with my transport blocks still in situ!
-
Its great when we have to turn up with our own 'PDI checklist' for things like transport pucks, after all this time, as they still get missed.
They should put them in a bag and give them to the customer.
Anybody actually have a current UK PDI checklist ?

Hello TwoSheds,
I have been using templates uploaded by other members on the forum, links below -

Thanks for those links...
I was looking for the PDI checklist ( schedule ) that the UK dealer uses.
There was a US one posted in the past but it was specific to their market.

Sorry TwoSheds got the wrong end of the stick, I have been searching these forums for a couple of months now and haven't seen a UK copy of the PDI so far; however I do know that some of the forum members do work for VW dealerships so they might be able to help you?
-
Thats OK.
Maybe somebody has one on here...

6 down, 1 to go, then Bingo! R time.

Like you... Mine went to Stage 6 - Arrived in UK!!!
Then shorty afterwards I got a call from the dealer to say that the car is due to arrive with them on Wednesday and would I like to pick it up on Thursday...
But "Sods law" due to work commitments the earliest I can pick it up is the following week! Tbh I can't believe how quick it's all been from build to delivery. ... my GTi took forever in comparison!

Great news Gung-ho!!! That's a quick turn around! You lucky sod! But what a bummer you can't get it because if work!
Similarly I'm away first weekend of Oct, and any bets that's when mine'll be ready. I will clear my work diary if necessary to get it.

It could be starting anytime this week. They can't do them all first thing Monday.

Just receieved my 5c tracker update this morning, I have checked on Marine Tracker and can see that the DANUBE HIGHWAY docked at Sheerness at 05:00 this morning after leaving Emden at 13:34 yesterday!

I wouldn't want it from a monday morning anyway or a friday afternoon for that matter

Just spoken to my dealer and have found out my plate number and ordered some footwell bulb holders so I can change the light colour at some point in the future. (Part number V7L0 947 415) £12.11 if anyone is interested to know.

My build date this week but still no sign of the car actually being built ? Presume with all the diesel cheat stuff they will start prioritising petrol cars as will need to get income in asap to pay fines haha

Stage 7 today

I've found the best way is to tweet vw. They told me that mines at build stage 4 of 8 this morning. Fingers crossed it will be finished today.
Tracker hasn't moved from stage 3.

Build stage 7 of 8. I can almost smell the paint. Or whatever build stage 7 is

Tweeting's definitely the way to go. VW must have a better view of what's happening than we poor customers - try @VWUKHelp :lipsrsealed:

I did tweet, I've been doing it for a while now. It's a great way of finding out whats going on. My dealer never talks to me unless I call him and that takes a few tries to get through.
-
Still awaiting a collection date, though dealer wasted no time in emailing invoice for outstanding amount and Service Plan over for payment He also acknowledged I'd had a much longer wait than he'd anticipated but stopped short of saying "sorry".

Me neither. Thankfully mine appears to have been built mid week, hopefully when robot and human at their most alert.

coolio!!! The ironic thing is.... my went to Stage 7 yesterday, but it was registered, PDI'd & ready to go. Like a lot have already mentioned you do have to take what the tracker says with a pinch of salt. Lol!
-
I just received my stage 7 confirmation this morning! I'm heading over to the dealer now to sort out some paperwork and find out when I can pick the car up.
-
Well I'm back from the dealership and to my surprise the car had been delivered yesterday afternoon, after sorting out the paperwork they let me look around it so I took some photos for you guys
They still have to carry out the PDI and it should be ready to be picked up on Wednesday.

This could be a bumper week on here for new registrations.
Really looking forward to all the pics this coming week

Thanks for the comments about the colour, I've always wanted a white car and I was lucky that the GTI looks so good in it!

Finally picked her up this morning! And you'll be pleased to hear it's as every bit as GOOD as what people have said it is. It's both met & exceeded my expectations.

Looks really lovely mate health to drive.
I'm maybe one of only a few but I honestly do prefer the Cadiz wheels to the Pretorias
-
Thanks for the compliments 'Cossieian'... It was a hard decision but I opted for the 18" Cadiz in the end because I found the 19" Santiago's on my GTi slightly on the harsh side (plus the fact I've also opted for the passive dampers on the R).
I would have been happy with either in terms of "Looks".

Today's the day.
I'll post some pics after I pick it up, soon excited. Bye Bye Corsa

Thanks Bud! After two 'White' consecutive GTi's I thought it was time for a change.... LB is a truly stunning colour and the pictures really don't do it justice. Im really happy with the colour wheel combo & wouldn't have gone for anything different

Hi all,
I just came across this forum and thread and wondered if anyone else was getting a runaround from VW at the mo? We ordered a GTI Carbon Grey, 3 door manual on 22nd July, and we still don't have a confirmed build week, but have an unconfirmed build week of 50. This is a pretty standard car, and looking at your posts some of you who ordered then almost have your cars now.
Anyone else in the same boat as us? I cannot get a straight answer from dealer or VWUK, but want the car so will have to wait.....
Any kindred spirits?

You will only get a confirmed BW 4 weeks before - nothing to panic about yet
All depends on dealer allocation - as you are in kent was is JCB you went with? If so they are usually very busy with orders as they (at least used to be) a big player via drive the deal
-
No, JCB are our usual dealer but we went with Beadles Maidstone. When ordering we were told to expect week 1 in October, and then were told that we had an earlier build slot, end of September. That's the frustration, 2 months down the line, we expected the car soon (and sold the Mk6 GTI!) and now we get the runaround.
Not terribly impressed so far as you can tell, if expectations are correctly set I am fine with it, but how can a dealer give such specific info if there is a 5 month wait on the car???
Confused, annoyed, frustrated
-
I ordered 23rd July and my car is currently in its build stages this week so yours definately seems to be dragging a lot. What options have you specced? The 19" alloys were know to cause a delay a while back.
-
Hello Stonkers,
I ordered my GTI on the 08/07/2015 and I'm picking it up tomorrow to give you an idea of the time frame for other orders. I would give your dealer another kick up the backside or tweet VWUK on Twitter for an update.
Btw I'm from the Kent area as well, Tonbridge; would be nice to meet up one day when your car turns up!
-
MXResonance - which dealer are you picking up from tommorow? Picking mine up tommorow from JCB Medway.
Hope it all goes well for you tommorow.
-
Booth11,
Good luck with the collection tomorrow, nothing beats new car day collection! Be good to hear how your experience goes as I will hopefully be collecting mine from JCB Medway in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Flim. Will let you know how it goes.
I don't think JCB go in for all that 'ready to go home' unveiling of the car business, which is fine by me as not into all that. Prefer a low key handover, then the best bit which is getting and driving it away, lol. Sounds boring but I don't get 'excited' as such collecting a new car. After having a few new ones the novelty wears off. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to getting the car, especially after an 8 month wait, just don't need all the bells and whistles.
Bet you can't wait to get yours. Not long now!
-
Definately, im the same, had a few new cars also and its nice to get the paper work done and be given the keys!
Hope tomorrow goes well, make sure you get some pictures and a review posted asap.

Those dates are fairly consistent with my own experience - ordered 4th July picked up Saturday morning - happy enough to do the whole fuss 'I'm ready to go home' thing - bit of a palava but worked for me - flowers for the wife, umbrella for me and then a VW pen set presented by the boss (different story) before getting a tank of juice in near-by garage.
I have to say I had a great experience and as soon as I looked at the car I forgave VW for confusing and worrying me last week about residuals and missing potential sales drives in the coming weeks/months.
As for the car - it's exactly what I'd hoped for  I had a Mk2 GTI 25 years ago and a Mk4 GT TDI bought new in 2001 which was written off after 8 months when a drunk driver hit it - parked at the time  (got the Gap insurance this time) - mostly been driving SEAT since so was ready for a return to VW.
Anyway enjoy your new car tomorrow MXResonance and have a blast Booth

My car is due in Novemember and if I knew there was a deal going I'd be all over it

 any 'potential' sales drives on the back of VWGate
ps Cossieian - last stage seemed to last forever

My build week is next week, although dealers said to wait until Jan to register it, I'm still undecided!!
Did you deal with Mark in Agnews Mallusk
-
That's a hard decision but I think I'd sooner be selling a Jan/16 than a Nov/15 in a few years
Would be seriously frustrating through
-
JCB thank goodness, as you said Booth 11 , don't go in for all that 'theatre' of unveiling.
They have so many handovers every day and its packed out at the moment with new cars being PDI'd etc.
Hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow...
-
have a blast Booth
Cheers Greerso, I sure will.

Yeah, thank god JCB are too busy for all that palaver. I've done my bit and saved them some time too by asking them not to wash and prep mine. Just as long as the sodding transport pucks are out, lol.

I'm picking it up from Motorline Volkswagen Tunbridge Wells, Ive already told them how anal I will be checking over the car and that I would be checking to make sure the transports pucks have been taken out.
Good luck with your pick up tomorrow Booth, looking forward to seeing your photos on the forum, I will be starting my build thread soon as I have already bought a few goodies for the Golf

Cheers MX. And likewise for you today. Hope all goes well, and your car is transport puck free. Tunbridge Wells eh, the posh bit of Kent then. Just a tad more glamorous than Medway.
I'll post some pics up in due course, and look forward to seeing yours and following your 'soon to be' build thread.
-
Thanks for the info guys, my car is pretty basic apart from the Carbon Grey paint and App Connect. 3 door, manual, no PP and std wheels. I am now pushing to get some kind of answer from the dealer, VWUK or VW Germany. Those getting their cars now, enjoy, I am not jealous at all! Maybe we should have stayed with JCB Medway!
-
I have just had a text this morning saying "in transit :shipping" . Presuming my car is on a ship, am I right in thinking car might be at dealers sometime in the next week or so ?
-
I am at the same stage, 5b, it means it at Emden awaiting a ship.
-
Mine's still being built - for over a week now. I hope that means that they're just being extra special careful rather than somebody's dropped it off the side of a transporter

I ordered 13th July with all the options ticked and mine was built last week. I'm really surprised you haven't at least got a confirmed build by now. Maybe your dealer is out of allocation and is waiting for a slot?
I would tweet @vwukhelp for assistance. Good luck, the wait is frustrating but quite enjoyable too.

Did you get a stage 4 notification? Mine skipped that and went to 5a. Have you tried twitter? They will tell you the build stage you are at.

No, no notification other than the confirmed build week (twice - different weeks). The peeps on Twitter have been really good. Been nagging them nearly daily.

I ordered mine on 07/08, plenty of options (see sig), but my dealer did have one scheduled to be built, which I think is at least as important as what you spec.
-
I'm glad it's not just me asking them on twitter quite often, they say ask again in a week, not likely!
-
5c and on the Neckar Highway 😀
-
Bungleaio, has your dealer given you an idea of when it will be ready for collection?
-
I spoke to him yesterday and I'm going in on Wednesday to sort things out, he says it should be with them within 5 days of being at the port so fingers crossed it will be there when I go.
I'm hoping to pick it up the following week if so that will be 14 weeks from order to collection which is a lot quicker than I was expecting.
Any news for you?
-
Cool, I am a week behind you, ordered 22/07, BW40 so will be happy with the same 14 week total. I tweeted VW on Thursday and was stage 5 of build so moving along nicely. Keep us posted on progress please, and post some pics when you get it :-)
-
Don't worry there will be plenty of pics.
It annoys me when people are part of the buzz of waiting for the new cars, once they get it they disappear from the forums.

Hey I'm still here, will be posting up my review/build thread this evening at some point

Yippee it's finnally my build week this week
Any ideas how long it should be to I collect it from dealers??
PS bought a new Number Plate for it today, can you register a new car on a private Reg?

I know what you mean. No staying power!
-
GTI ordered on 11 Aug and I'm collecting tomorrow. So about 8 weeks total wait. I believe the dealer already had it 'preordered' but I added a sunroof which doesn't seem to have delayed things by much. Initially, it wasn't expected until towards the end of Oct.
-
I just got off the phone to VW UK and they still have no build date, but it could be here as late as mid January. They seem to think that the dealer has just been giving me duff info, but all of you seem to be getting your cars in the timescale I was expecting. Honestly I am giving up on the dealer and looking for one elsewhere now, January seems a little silly for a July order to me.
Let me see what I can find elsewhere.... anyone seen a spare 3 door manual Carbon Grey laying around anywhere spare :-)
Hi all,
I just came across this forum and thread and wondered if anyone else was getting a runaround from VW at the mo? We ordered a GTI Carbon Grey, 3 door manual on 22nd July, and we still don't have a confirmed build week, but have an unconfirmed build week of 50. This is a pretty standard car, and looking at your posts some of you who ordered then almost have your cars now.
Anyone else in the same boat as us? I cannot get a straight answer from dealer or VWUK, but want the car so will have to wait.....
Any kindred spirits?
I ordered 13th July with all the options ticked and mine was built last week. I'm really surprised you haven't at least got a confirmed build by now. Maybe your dealer is out of allocation and is waiting for a slot?
I would tweet @vwukhelp for assistance. Good luck, the wait is frustrating but quite enjoyable too.
-
Something definately does'nt sound right. It's almost like they have only just placed your order and you now have the normal order lead time to wait.
-
PS bought a new Number Plate for it today, can you register a new car on a private Reg?
You can but it usually causes a delay and also when you sell the car it causes another day because you need to get a number allocated tot he car (presuming you want to keep the private plate). Its best just to get the car registered in the normal way then swap over once you have the private plate (make sure you store the original plates safely to go back on when you sell).

Heard from dealer my still sat on dock in Germany. Been there since last Wednesday seemingly so further delay. Not happy as my company A6 goes back this Wednesday pm ..
-
That's really odd as my car was reported as being at the docks on the 30th then it was on the boat on the 2nd. I've been delivered to Grimsby though, maybe you're waiting for one to Sheerness.
There's loads of boats going to and fro so hopefully it won't be long.
There i

It's to Teeside VW so presume it will go to a port in north of England ?
-
Aegean Breeze and African Highway are currently at Emden, if you track them on vessel finder tomorrow you'll be able to see where they are going. I've had a quick look and can't see anything that has left in the past couple of days heading to Grimsby.

Yeah I agree with the above. Some dealers can take another week to ten days to get the private plate changed around. Best to do it yourself and that way you at least have the car while its happening.
Same with selling it on. I always find it easier putting the plate on retention and then doing it myself. Although its £30 or so dearer this way but well worth it.
Also you aren't guaranteed to get the original registration number to go back on the car but even though the paperwork says that I've never known different.

Yippee it's finnally my build week this week
Any ideas how long it should be to I collect it from dealers??

I'm surprised you splashed the cash - thought you'd be saving your money for petrol

Received my stage 5a this morning :-) Better get my fiesta sold.

Talked to customer services today and my car still dockside and unlikely to be shipped before beginning next week . So, unlikely they say to receive car before end of month . When I ordered from Teeside VW they assured me my car would be here before my lease car disappears tomorrow so I am not at all happy .Not a good start to VW ownership as I will have to rent a car now until the dratted Gti appears .

If they assured you then I would speak to them and ask for a loan car. Most dealers have several not to mention all the salesmen's cars as well.
-
Hi. Yes , I will do good suggestion thanks .
-
Result . Car now on ship to Uk . Hopefully, Teesside. But knowing my luck probably Sheerness ! Anyway am now going to start hassling Teesside VW to get hold of the car as soon as shoreside .
-
Mine arrived at the dealer yesterday so 5 days from port to dealer for me. I saw it today and it looks amazing
-
That is good .The car salesman I used text to say he is ill in hospital, and will be away from work for a while , poor chap. So, I need to call dealer and find who is dealing with my car purchase .My wife is letting me borrow her Fiat500 when she is not working so between us we are managing .Just. My Audi was a company car 250bhp quattro A6 and went like the wind in a straight line ! When I pulled out onto the A1 yesterday ,in the Fiat ,I forget I had 70% less horses under the bonnet and had a bit of a moment . Looking forward to the Gti when I can safely merge with traffic again ..

Couldn't resist sending a tweet to VW this morning.
They replied that my car was at Build stage 5 of 8(Actual production line stages) Not online tracker stages!!
Anyone know what stage 5 means on the production line?
I can't believe how impatient I'm getting, totally out of character for me

Thanks all for your order and delivery details. In the end we gave up on Beadles Maidstone, and VW UK, as in the end we had a possible mid January delivery! Happily I called a dealer in Chelmsford about a used car and they had an unregistered Carbon Grey 3 door manual (+sunroof) and we should pick up this week.
We are looking forward to joining the ranks of MK VII owners.
See you on the road.

Just received my 5a text this morning

Mine's in the UK finally. Was in build for 2 weeks. Luckily been sunning myself on holiday but back now so into full-on haranguing mode until I get my pick up date

I will ! I owned two Mk 2 GTi's in the early 1980's and loved them both dearly . My Mk7 is night blue in colour and have not seen another on the road yet. Did see a Golf gte in the showroom in that colour and loved it, hence my choice for the Gti

The whole process feels like christmas day to me. 37 hours 40 minutes until collection not that I'm counting

Pick car up Friday noon . Not been easy without a car and living in deep rural North Yorkshire !

Congrats to all those whose cars are in transit or nearing collection.
Look forward to seeing lots of lovely Golf's over the coming days and hearing your thoughts on your new motors.

New car day is always good but brand new car day is extra special.
Dealer was really good and took quite a bit of time to run through things on the car, having so many options fitted it took a while.
The car looks stunning and drives brilliantly. I tested the lane assist and it's a weird feeling. I only really ordered this to get the blind spot and dynamic lighting but it will be great on a motorway.
I drove straight from the dealer to the nearest TPS and picked up the parts to do the jacking points mod then got these fitted this afternoon.
I was planning on getting the wheels off and sealing them up but sadly the weather wasn't with me and I only got the one done so I will get back to this at the weekend.
Whilst it was raining I got the power button sticker on from badge skins.
Thats it for today. I'm off out on a works do all day tomorrow so the car will stay where it is until I get back to getting it all protected at the weekend.

Inchcape VW in Chelmsford saved the day! Carbon grey GTI sitting on the drive and its all that we expected and more. I did not know that the door trims and door sill trims had red illuminated lines in them, nice touch.
Enjoy your GTIs all, what a car!

True! But my excuse is that its my wife's car, if it was mine I would know EVERYTHING!
Love the car, all you "waiters" are in for a treat, lots of nice touches compared to our old MK VI
