Oooh, looks like Wherry has a bit of competition with the indicators etc!
Looks good, not a massive fan of the debadged grill (despite running one for a while myself) :undecided:
Other than that looks a lot better than when you got it

I'm playing with the Idea of Gloss blacking them to match the roof.................
-
Little update! Installed some gas strut tailgate lifters from a Seat Ibiza as bonnet lifters  thanks to the handy thread on here! Hopefully painting the rear quarters next weekend so watch this space! Then it will be the rear doors, then the front doors, then the front end and stage one will be complete..............
-
Drastic changes will be made before Christmas comes around! Hopefully I'll be getting a load of well overdue paint work and mods sorted towards the end of october so watch this space
-
A couple of little updates! No new paintwork as of yet but since last time I have bought a bonnet bra which I don't know if it will be staying or not and some new rear lights as I'm bored of the police giving me dirty looks when deciding weather or not to pull me over :/ Hopefully I'll pull my finger out of my ass and paint up my car before Christmas. I'm thinking of a full repaint now as I am sick of driving round in a half finished car. I have always loved black................
-
Pulled off the starter motor today, not realising the long bolts holding it on also go through the front engine mount! Had a bit of a shock when the engine shifted about an inch and a half lol! I'm gonna strip it down, clean and re grease everything and see if that fixes it. There is no way I want to buy a new one unless I really have to! Now, where has that jack gone?.............
-
Gave the starter motor a good clean and grease this morning and whacked it back on! No luck though, It just made some funny noises and died again  Oh well, looks like I'll be getting a new one.
-
Purchased the new starter today, cost me the best part of a ton! £18 sur charge when I bring the old one in though so at least that's something. I also bought some new rear numberplate LED bulbs, some yellow sidelights and some yellow headlight bulbs as the weather is getting all crappy and dark. I will get some night shots when the bulbs arrive and are fitted!
-
Sounds like you are having lots of fun with this!
Where are these drastic changes then? It's nearing the end of october!
Don't change the colour, best part!
-
Bloody hell that starter motor was expensive. Paid just over £50 for mine 6 months ago!
-

I've always wanted a black car so that is on the cards with a bit of a twist. Because I have had trouble with the starter its kinda set me back a bit. Still might be able to get some paintwork done before Christmas If I am lucky  However, I have just found out that my sisters fiesta needs MOT so that has to take priority
-

Really? where did you get it from? That was from Kevin Coopers, It was the cheapest I could find! Compared to £115 from GFS!

Bit of an ebay special, but 2 year warranty is as good as you get from ECP/GSF/TPS etc and its decent quality imo.

Also, new interior coming soon! BOOM!
-
I got those lights, got bored of them in that form so turned them into this:
Make sure you get orange bulbs too if you haven't already :)
What interior you gone for?
Does that mean you can now get back to plans seeing as you found a cheaper starter motor?
-
I have those lights too Dan. They're a bit marmite I think, but should look good with your colour car.

Hopefully my plans can continue now yeah!
The lights were second have so came with the bulbs and carriers too :) Although I need to get some chrome plated indicator bulbs as I hate that I can see the orange.
I've got some black leather interior lined up from a VR6  I've always wanted leather so this makes me very happy!
-

I know what you mean about them being a bit Marmite man. I'm still undecided if they will stay as they are or not yet. I planned to tint the indicator section red and get some green bulbs so they still glow amber  However I decided just to rock them as is for the time being!
-
My dear golf is suffering from major faded paint and in the last year has had a fair few more parking dents appear from nowhere so I need a repaint.
So here is the plan:
Smooth washer jets in the bonnet
Smooth side repeaters
Smooth Rear handles
Repair the rust underneath the OSR light
Repair patches on both sills
Colour code VR6 bumpers and side mouldings
My dilemma is this:
Black or Red???
I will also refirb my wheels at the same time, colour suggestions??
-
Black with pink wheels! :afro:
-
Black with pink wheels! :afro:
If I go Black I want to keep the engine bay Red as a feature so I don't think Pink would really work. Although I would be well up for rocking some Pink winter wheels for fun
Set to replacing my side lights and number plate lights that arrived to day! Turns out the NSF and NSR sidelights both wont work even with new bulbs  Fuse maybe??
Replaced my number plate lights but dropped one of the covers down the drain. NOT happy. So after all my effort, I still only have sidelights on the OS and one numberplate light working. Albeit the other one instead. Good job the Golfie is still off the road till the new starter motor arrives lol!
-
Sidelight problem solved thanks to my handy Haynes manual! Now I just need to find a 10a fuse from somewhere. I knew I should have bought a assorted pack last time I had to replace a fuse.........
-
New starter motor arrived this afternoon! Whoop whoop! Hopefully back on the road tomorrow and down to my mates workshop to sort out when I can start my well overdue paintwork. sorted.
-
Starter motor in and running :) Need to buy some more loom tape though, the stuff thats on there at the moment is sooo old it literally crumbles into dust when you try and move it!
-
I now have new alloys waiting in the wings ;) Now I just need to get rid of mine.........
-
Got some new part worn tires from the salvage yard today! £24 fitted for to front, can't argue with that!
I also treated her to a quick wash so I took a pic of my new rear lights now that they are fitted :)

Right, the plan is as such:
Repaint in LO41 Black
Engine Bay, Alloys and Detailing in LA3G Classic Red
VR6 Black Leather Interior
Porsche Cup 1 Alloys (16x7j Front & 16x8j Rear)
LA3G Splatter pattern on the roof and Rocker Cover
Mountney 13" Steering wheel & Boss Kit
Hopefully ready for next summer to attend some shows :)
-
Sounds like a good plan, Look forward to it!
-
dan get on with it
cold and late nights = results

-

Sounds like a good plan to me!
Picking up my new leather interior next Saturday :) I can't actually wait! Shame I can't fit the door cards until I have window motors, loom and switches! They will be going in storage though!
-
Slight change of plan, I will be going LC9X Orcaschwarz instead of LO41 and loosing the red/black splatter effect on the roof as I dont think It will go with the red Porker rims
-
Got a little bored today so I colour coded my steering wheel horn buttons and painted the seatbelt height adjusters and heater knobs satin silver :)
Here's a few pics all fitted!

Before
(http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa457/DanChave/Klassic%20Red%20MK3%20Golf/IMAG0230.jpg)
After
(http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa457/DanChave/Klassic%20Red%20MK3%20Golf/IMAG0232.jpg)
Still far from clean but much, much better than when I started :)
-
This just in! I have possibly just got my hands on a Vento front end :) Meeting the guy with the Vento tonight!
In other news, I have just been offered a MK1 golf 5 Door with an ABF lump on ZR1 Bike Carbs!! I may have to sell up quick sharpish!
-
Its on!
On Wednesday I will be straight swapping my bonnet for a Vento bonnet and straight swapping a Vento Bumper I have for two early Vento grills, two sets of Vento headlights and a debadged Vento grill! Pluss a VR6 Splitter thrown in for good measure!
WIN.

As you can see it has the later spec more rounded grill slats. I couldn't believe my luck when he pulled two early spec grills out of the box and thought nothing of it:)
I'm hoping I will be getting the bonnet smoothed, painted up and back on the 'Volf' on the Thursday/Friday after the swap goes down!
-
Sweet move, yeah fingers crossed!

Cheers bud :) Although the guy has got a Vento, I don't really think he's down with the whole 'dub' scene. He wants to build his car so it looks like the Vento in the first Fast and the Furious lol! Said I was happy to take his stuff off him
-
Parts in better hands, so its a win all round :D

My buddy had a 9A on bike carbs in his rocco, went well and sounded pretty cool.
Yes, you'll have to give me dates when you know and I'll put together a meet down here :)
-
Sounds like a plan! I have contemplated fitting bike carbs to mine but I don't know how much of a mission it would be lol
-
All confirmed! I'll be swapping front ends on Wednesday next week and I'll be in the garage the next morning, welding up the washer jet holes in the bonnet, getting some paint on the mother trucker, and getting the grills painted!
Expect new pics on Wednesday, Thursday and friday

I would love to! The thing is a beast, It pulls in every gear but looks like a standard gx on P-Slots!
Once my car is finished and MOT'd in January it will be going up for sale if its still available. The guy is in no hurry to sell so I might get lucky yet!
On the other hand, I have never finished a project so I kinda owe it to myself to see this one through
-
Picked up my leather interior today :) Sooo happy with it! It also came with all the window switches, door speakers and chrome door pulls! Plus it turns out it has heated front seats! Bonus!
Removing the seat heater loom wasn't much fun though, I had to take most of the dash apart and it took me nearly TWO HOURS!!! It'll be worth it in the long run though :)
It's too dark now, I'll get some pics up tomorrow!
-
VR6 Leather seats fitted
Front

As you can see, the door cards haven't been fitted yet, they will be stashed away until I have sourced an early loom for the electric window motors. I will fit the heater loom for the front seats at the same time :)
-
:afro: nice seats
-
Cheers man! I am fully loving them
-
the leather looks in good nic too
-
Yeah, its in really good condition :)
Interior wise, I've still got to source electrical wiring loom, four door looms, one more window motor, a steering wheel boss kit, s mk3.5 handbrake, chrome heater knobs and gti tartan fabric for the headliner and it will be done!
-
which motor do you need dan? or is it the whole reg as well? i have a passanger front motor if you want it mate.
-
I don't know off hand Shaun! A mate has three window motors and mech's saved for me. She had to use one of them on her old mk3 before she could put it up for sale. if its just the window motor, I need the mech as well really! Cheers though :)
-
No worries dude, I have 2 spare passanger front ones though so if you want one just give me a shout.

Never been too sure about this conversion on a mk3, always can't helping thinking it makes the mk3 look a bit mk1 saxo(ish)

Never been too sure about this conversion on a mk3, always can't helping thinking it makes the mk3 look a bit mk1 saxo(ish)

I want to paint down both sides, roll the arches, and finish cleaning up and painting a few bits in the engine bay. As well as fitting the Porsche rims (although I doubt I will sell with them on) so I guess repaint my alloys as well lol!

Cheers! Not bad for a finish straight out the gun eh? The whole car will be getting a complete flat and polish but that won't be until I have painted down both sides :)
And I would love to buy that MK1! Show me somebody who will buy my car for £1500 with only two months MOT and I will go down there today!
-
You can get it MOT'd early if you think you could get a quick sale. You dont need to wait until its almost up.
-
That's true. However, I know I need to do some welding for the MOT so I need to save up some more cash for materials and it doesn't look like its gonna happen before Christmas so I might as well wait till the MOT is due :)
-

I'm sure when the time comes, if you advertise it in the right places you'll sell it.. Depends how much you want for it? You can't be that keen to get rid yet after the effort you've just put into it anyway.....
-
So........I set about fitting the rest of my colour coded bits this morning, even though I convinced myself I wasn't going to like it and took some pics to put on here :)
Front bumper fitted!

Not at all, just think that you've only just changed the look of your car and put lots of effort into it, not something i'd want to let go in a hurry. would want my time/money's worth.
-
Looks cool as fcuk!
I want that front end!

I know what you mean man! A couple of months and hopefully I'll be ready to part with it lol! In all seriousness though, I do really love how she is looking at the moment :) The problem is, I almost enjoy the work more than the result lol! Plus, because all the work is done by myself, I havent had to pay out loads for a garage to do it :)
-

Cheers :) It's lush aint it!

The front splitter needs a proper good clean now though!
Yeah I know man! I haven't finished repairing it yet, it had a split running right up one corner lol! I had to plastic weld it all up and then bond and mesh it all up. It still needs sanding down, filling, shaping, priming, re texturing and painting!
-
Looks better than when you got it
Do like the vento front end.
Reckon if you swap out the wheels for something different. Azev A deep dish or something chunky and 5 spoked. Cheaper than replacing the car.
-
Quality mate, looks really good!! I'd be tempted to keep it...

Don't worry man, I already have some Porsche Cup 1's lined up for the summer :)
-

I am tempted to to be honest! Although, if this Mk1 is still available then it will have to go. I just can't turn down my favourite car combined with my favourite engine! It needs a bit of work, but as you can see, I'm not afraid of that. I have already got a colour picked out and everything ;)
-
Got a few little interior goodies winging their way over to me :) I have some chrome door pulls, chrome heater control rings and a MK4 golf gear knob and leather gaiter with chrome detailing! Pics to follow when it all arrives :)
-
Possible choice of two Porsche rims now! What do I do?? Maybe I should buy both........... Any where are these interior bits......
-
If it is a good price, get them both  if not go for the cheapest!
-
Buy all of them...
-
Hopefully I'll order the first set the Friday after next :) and they aren't the Cups.............

After with the x6 LED's :)
And with the Halogen Yellow H4's
(http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa457/DanChave/Klassic%20Red%20MK3%20Golf/IMAG0299.jpg)
They shine a brighter Yellow in real life but it's hard to capture
-
Probably come out better in the dark.....
Why does your car always look pink/purple in pics... or am I going colourblind?
-

I tried in the dark but I always get to much glare lol! And yeah, I noticed that! I think it bust just be how it looks on the monitor or due to the fact that most of my pics are taken with me phone cam ? I assure you in real life it aint that colour lol!
-
Forget about the other set of Porsche rims. The offset was all wrong. Back to the Cups :) Cream or Polished?

Cream. Polished look great but gets boring cleaning them imo.

Maybe.........

Cream is a nightmare too! Unless their properly powder coated, brake dust embers itself into the paint. It's also wheels off to clean em properly an you will have to do it every time to keep em looking good

I know what you mean man! But to be fair, to keep wheels clean you have to do that whatever the finish lol!
-
Alternatively pay someone else to clean them for you.

Decided exactly how they are being refirbed as well!
-
I'm picking up my adapters today :) along with 20 polished Porsche bolts! I have gone with 25mm up front and 30mm out back, stainless steel custom made jobbies, drilled to aid cooling!
Hopefully I'll get round to doing some trial fit pics later, then I can find out how much camber I need to run :)
-
Bloody weather is awful I just want to fit my Porsche rims NOW!!! lol
Here's a pic of my adapters and bolts :)
Also, this arrived through the post yesterday :)
With a bit of modification it should fit no problem ;)
-
Nice. Man up and get them on, the weathers going to be pants now until next year.
-
Shaun, I would love to! I still have to find time to refirb them and get hold of tyres, valves and centre caps before I can fit them. Plus, I need to do a trial fit to see if I need any camber shims for the rear :(
-
Got my darling girlfriends mother in on the modification, she is going to stitch in the elastic from my old gear shift gaiter into my new mk4 item so i can fit it :) hopefully I'll get it back in a couple of days!

Small update! I finished modifying the MK4 gear knob and gaiter to fit :)
I had to ditch the chrome surround as it was a completely different shape, so I sewed in the elastic from the original gaiter. That way the new one fits like the original :) I will get a chrome surround to fit at a later date. Also, I am going to chop the gear stick rod down a bit so the whole lot sits lower :)
-
And get an audi tt gear knob
-
And get an audi tt gear knob
I just got this one lol! Some people are never happy! Haha :)
-
I did the pikey shortshifter mod in my golf mate, makes a world of difference but wierd at first! Kept trying to select a gear a second time as I wasn't sure it was selecting properly.
-
Hahaha, I imagine that would be the case lol, I reckon I'm gonna take something like an inch an a half off so it will be nice and low :) How much did you take off?
-
An inch and a half! There's a guide in the mk3 info section if you need it.
-
Hahaha, a good amount then lol! Cheers bud, I'll have a look :)

Don't lie, you got a woman to do it.
-
True LOL, I got my girlfriend's mother to do it
-
Tried to test fit my new rims today! Absolute fail though. I haven't needed to jack up my car since I fitted the coilovers but, knowing its low, I reversed onto a block of wood so I could get the jack under. Still couldn't get it under. Fail. I really need a low reach jack lol! anyway, I'm off to a mates garage tomorrow so hopefully I can use his :)
-
Way too much fail!
Fook me, what are you going to do if you ever have a puncher?
-
Abandon vehicle
-
Hahaha, I will struggle lol! Seriously though, I have two scissor jacks in the boot and If I really need to I could rip off the front splitter and jack up on the front subframe until the car is high enough to get the other jack under where the appropriate wheel :D
-
Finally got to test fit my new Porker rimage!!!

I'm really happy with the way she will be sitting with the 30/25mm adapters. And wrapped in some 195/45/16's they'll fit snuggly in the arch with minimal work :)

Can't fault a set of Porsche rims :) the problem is, if i had it my way I would have at least another four sets lol! Your car's coming along great as well dude, I wish I had some garage space to properly attack mine like you do!

You realise they wont last a week before the kids av em away!
-
They'll only be going on for shows, meets and photos lol, they wouldn't last five seconds in Ashburton!
-
you can't beat a classic 5 spoke, they really suit the car.

I ordered chrome badges but the sent me silver ones instead :/ Now the question is, do I keep these and colour code them to the wheels or do I send them back and get the chrome ones??
-
Colour them the same colour as your doing your wheels
-
How about colour coding them to the car?
-
I would colour them the same colour as your wheels itl look so much more subtle.. But each to our own dude
-
Yeah, thinking about it it would look a bit more OEM that way :)
-
Just ordered my Tyres :) 195/45/16 Nankangs.
All systems go as soon as they arrive :)
-
Non genuine Ebay specials ??
Nankangs - ditch finders
id have chosen a better tyre mate
-
I don't have a big engine or drive like a loon so I'm sure I'll be fine. I will get better tyres next time round and replace them when they wear out :) What would you have suggested?
-
mate you don't need a big engine or to drive like a loon, they are really rubbish rubbers.. I'm sure anyone who has tired them will say the same
i use the yokohama S drives in the same size as you on mine, they cope well, and considering they are soft, last ages too.. well they did till Mr Turbo joined the party under my bonnet LOL
i paid £73 fitted each for 2 new ones last week
-
I will look at something of that kind of standard next time round :) Trust me when I say I don't do many miles a week and to be honest, they are better then the cheap crap I have on my Lenzos lol!
-
i hear you buddy
-
Got Nankangs on the front of mine, dont listen to the ditch finder comments, I like to drive my cars hard and I have never found a ditch
Yes there are better tyres on the market but they are far from crap as long as you buy new and not part worn
-

drive you car hard hahaha... now that is funny!!
mate they are probably one of the worst brands of the lot.. i had some on my GTI when i got it, swapped them for some other budget rubbers that were on anoter set of GTI rims and the difference was massive - and that was another set of budgets.. once i swapped to a premium tyre it was just night and day, and not on about high speed driving, I'm on about normal driving, cornering, breaking, driving in rain, ice etc
You would not be able to drive your golf hard with the tyre set up you have on that red golf anyhow.. the fronts are just too small with too much stretch for hard driving
-

100 % agree, take it easy on them in the wet.
I bought two for the front of my Mk2 as I was on a serious funds issue at the time, they got swapped to the back after one week...
-
I would say your wrong Brad
Its drives spot on, since the front has been set up proper and the tracking has been sorted its drives great
I have a really good blast upto my grand parents every other day (includeds twisting country roads with Pot holes and plenty of round abouts to throw it round, Never lost a sump  )
Its my daily driver now so gets plenty welly as I have broken my S60 twice in 2 weeks
As I said there Not the best on the market but there not bad for the money as long as you buy new
-
you need to drive my car or a similar car with decent tyre set up etc, then you will realise how bad yours is handling wise.. does not matter how yu have had it set up if your running a wheel/tyre/stretch combo that you have
i do a lot more mileage than you, no way run those tyres and i certainly wouldn't wana stretch them making them even worse. and you have some major stretch on your fronts so theirs very little tread on the road.. Scary stuff IMO.. get that combo in the Wet or in ICE and id be fearing for mine or my passengers lives
id rather spend a bit more then i know I'm safe, ESPECIALLY running stretch
-
Makes the drive even more fun seeing the fear in your passengers face
-
That Horn added into the mix too hahaha happy times
-
Wow, didn't mean to start a debate lol!
Thanks for you opinions guys, I appreciate it all. I will eventually get better tyres but for now they will have to do :) from then I can see how they sit, if I need to go for a different profile or width to get the stance right etc. This is not a performance vehicle and I don't drive it like one so they will be fine for the time being!
Merry Christmas guys :)
-
Roll on Saturday, I will be repairing and priming my Cups so they are ready for paint :)
-
These arrives today!
Now I just need those tyres to hurry up and arrive!!!
-
Hang on, you have tyres, valves and caps. Why aren't these wheels on yet!
-
Hang on, you have tyres, valves and caps. Why aren't these wheels on yet!
It's too cold..... awwwwwwwwwwww.
-
I'm still waiting for the tyres to arrive and the alloys need refirbing inside and out before the tyres can be fitted and I can finally bolt them on.
I will be repairing and priming the Cups, inside and out this weekend coming and painting them the following weekend! Hopefully the tyres will have turned up by then and I can get them on at the beginning of the following week :)
I have decided not to go for the polished lip at the moment, given that the weather is foul etc..................... I may decide to polish the lips and repaint the faces in the summer though!
-
Went out shopping this morning, came back and my ditch finders had arrived :)
All I need to do is get some paint on the Cups and I'll be away!
-

Bid on a couple of Anni handbrakes a while back. Bugged out at about £40, and they all went for over £60. f**k that for a red button! Bargain you got. There though fella!
-
Cheers man! I have been after one for a VERY long time but they hardly ever come up :)
-
YAY TYRES

YAY TYRES
when you guna be painting the cups
I am repairing and priming them today, Painting them Friday/Saturday the week after and fitting the tyres Saturday the 14th, Hopefully that same day I can get them on without any complications! Or at least a bit of ghetto arch rolling until my arch roller turns up ;)
What make are the tyres
I went for Budget tyres and got some Nankang S2's. I know they have got mixed reviews, but I don't drive hard and I plan to replace them with better spec tyres in the future :)
-
Failure on the alloy refirb today, my mate was ill so his garage was closed :(
-

Not as bad as some budgets
-
After much faffing about and general deliberating I narrowed the wheel colours down to a few options :)
VW Polarsilber Met (LA7V)
Porsche Paladio Met (555)
And Porsche Linen Met (LM1U)
I have chosen Porsche Linen, I think it works the best and it is period correct for the alloys :)
I should have them repaired and the insides painted on Friday!
What do you guys think?
-
Good choice! That was the colour I would have suggested. Hurry up and get them done now!
-
I guess that colour will do, not florecent yellow though
-
I guess that colour will do, not florecent yellow though
Sorry man, it's the best I can do :)
-
Glad your going with silver and not the usual black aha
Youl be fitting them soon then
-
Yeah man! Hopefully they'll be on Saturday the 14th :) :) :)
-
Tried to fit my MK3.5 handbrake today! Resulting in an utter fail on my part. I fitted it and now the handbrake wont come up
-
I had a bit more of a play and managed to get the MK3.5 handbrake working :) result!
-
Was it a school boy errow
-
Kinda  I had never fiddled with the adjusters before and I didn't want to break anything lol! Got a mate, who is a mechanic, to pop round and advise me on what to do :) Turns out the hand brakes are slightly different, making the mk3.5 one much stiffer for some reason! Just glad its all sorted now!
Painting the Cups tomorrow!!! Whoop whoop whoop!!!
-
Sweet dude.. So wel see some pics tomorrow, i hope
-
 of the insides yeah! The faces will get done on Saturday hopefully :)
-
Repaired, primed and painted the inside of the cups today! Literally took 10 straight hours and I'm shattered so pics will be uploaded tomorrow :)

Haha. Don't worry, I always drop hints to Travis to paint my car and he's miles away too. Don't worry though, I can't afford it anyway. However both of you live near family so I'd make a trip out of it. :-D

MUST be hung from rear view mirror!
I wanted some pink ones but the clashed with my paint :(
I finally got the Cups on after a bit of fannying around, I ended up putting the 25mm adapters out back and the 30mm up front. MOT on Monday so we'll see how things go but, sill and arch repairs plus new wings within the next two weeks. Whilst I do the repair work, I'll pull the rear arches to accept the 30mm adapters and invest in another pair of 30mm's for the front I reckon!
I take some pics tomorrow once I have given her a wash. The arches are looking in a sorry state mind! My window motors should arrive this afternoon, thanks to James, who I got the Vento front end off, all I need now is the main interior loom and I can fit my doorcards and have full electrics :)
-
Finally got round to getting some pics up :)
The Cups with tyres on!

MOT was today! She failed :( Rust on the arches as expected, a couple of bulbs were out and the examiner didn't like the windscreen decal :/ Guess that has to go then!
I also got the obligatory advisory of 'lowered all round, signs of scraping' :') plus the windscreen was chipped and sratched, so that was on the advisory list as well.
SOOOOO, I start work on the sills, arches and front wings this Saturday. Let the fun begin all over again :)

Good start mate...
only thing I'd say it split your number up:
0750 007 556 instead of 07500007556

Cheers for the tip buddy! I'll get on it :) Other than that is it all viewable and easy to nevigate?

Cheers mate :) I don't think its at all bad for a free site and my first go at making one!
I think you should consider moving.............. ;)
-
Only using my phone, but on each page I initially thought it was blank cos the top screen with the paint splat, and then your contact details. I'd say take the splat page out, and just put your contact details at the bottom of the page or remove it all together as you have a dedicated contact page anyway mate. May just make it a little easier to read and navigate is all.
-
Cheers man! I'll look into that :)
-
Started work on the mk3 again today! Stripped the bumpers, grill and rear lights, removed and ditched the front wings and began removing and cutting out the badly rusted section beneath the rear light!
I could literally pull this off with my bare hands! It had been badly bodged with filler and chicken wire!

Cheers mate, I hope so! It will be the most complete car I have ever owned LOL. After this it will be just little things for the rest of the year and gather info and parts for an engine conversion :)
-
Nasty rust
Engine conversion? what you thinking of?
-
Yeah :( I'm thinking of either a 1.8T or a 1.9TDI, I'll be sourcing parts for the running gear first as it will be the same set up for both engines :) I'm thinking GTI wishbones and front ARB, G60 discs, VR6 calipers, gti rear beam with ARB and G60 rear brakes. That way I can keep the Porsche adapters I already have and all of this can be done independent from the actual engine swap :)
-

Sounds like a plan, whats ARB?
Going the TDI route would be a mission wouldnt it? would you need to change fuel tank and all the fuel lines?
-
An ARB is an anti roll bar :) and fuel tank swap is no harder than anything else involved really, ideally I would like to have a tank in the spare wheel well and run the fuel lines inside the car. That way i can smooth the fuel filler flap on the quarter and properly rust treat the rear arches and underside :)
-
Cool beans! you'd better be ready by Sunday! Was gonna ask you about my paintwork. :lipsrsealed:
-

I intend to the rear arches and sills by Saturday for my MOT retest, do the meet on Sunday and then crack on with the beast the next day :) even if I cant get her ready by then, I'll be there :)
-
Got the rear light section welded in today, had a play with my new arch roller and rolled my arches on the new nearside wing and the nearside quarter panel :) also, on my way home I picked up 6 M10 washers! Can anyone guess why?................. My Damn phone ran out of battery so pics of progress tomorrow!
-
6 M10 washers
hmmmmmmmmmmm
car fell apart :D

Arches rolled on the nearside and all the welding done on the nearside as well :) now I just have filler, primer, Seam sealer and stone chip to go! Oh, and then start work on the offside. FML, why did I start this!

Thanks! And hense why the wings weren't on for the MOT ;) I will be relocating the side repeaters somewhere, but I don't know where yet......... Maybe into the bumper, American reflector stylee :)

Now they are pics worth looking @
Very good work mate!

Just mount some small ones on the mirror

Just a word of warning when deleting side repeaters, if you only have them for MOT and you're involved in an accident, and the insurance company find out/ other person says that they didn't see your signal, you may be pumped. They don't need much of an excuse not to pay out at the best of times. That and traffic cops road side inspections can throw a spanner in the works. Perhaps a spare set of wings?
Aside from that slightly mumsy warning, sterling work there

Yeah, I have thought about either keeping my old rusty wings or buying a new set. However, I intend to relocate them sooner rather than later so it should be OK :)
And cheers !

I am considering selling my Porsche Cups to fund these.......
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300584744594?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_2303wt_829
and run 8's up front with 10mm spacers and 9's out back with 20mm hubcentrics, colour code the centres red and wrap them all in 195/40/16 Toyo Proxes...............
What do you guys think?
-
What is the quality gonna be like though??? U should easily be able to pick upa set of borbet As for that price, and U'd go with flat centre caps. theyre wierd, kind of a mix between borbets and modern line splits! They do look quite good, but as said, its just a question of quality for that price. :undecided:
-
I know what your saying man, I reckon they would look dope though!
-
Porsche Cups gets my vote mate, sorry

+1 to that!

I do love the cups, but I really want to run some 9's on the back for that perfect stance!

What??! ;) you KNOW its all about the stance!!
-
As for indicators, how about US spec oem ones in the bumper?
-
I seen those borbet A splits on ebay, look nice, but I'd be a bit worried about quality, defo! If you have £400 to spend on wheels, you got a lot to choose from. I'd say 8's front and 9's back is the best setup for a mk3, in terms of 'stance' and looks. Keep an eye out for the right wheels, don't necessarily have to be direct fit, can always get spacers made up - I am for my splits :)

I complete agree dude, I wonder if Porsche did 9 inch cups................
-
Right, I have ordered some engine oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm and rocker cover gasket! This week will see a full service, the rocker cover, door handles and rear number plate plinth repainted and the new wings on
-
Good stuff! Get it exactly how people would want to buy it!
-
Thats right man! Then even if no one bites, it still has to be done, so I'm sorted :)
-
Thats it man, keep it serviced. I need to do my oil again soon.
-
Fitted the new spark plugs, rotor arm and distributor cap, as well as the air filter today, all went well :) Started on the rocker cover gasket also, took everything off and cleaned it all up as I went. Everything was looking good until I noticed that the thick gasket between the single point injection and the inlet manifold had badly split and was pretty much hanging off! Now I have to wait until tomorrow to pick that up!
I have also decided to take out the lugs that the rocker cover nuts, bolt on to and replace them with m6 1.0x20 hex bolts instead :)
Providing I get the new rocker cover gasket sitting well and not leaking, hopefully tomorrow I can change the oil and replace the oil filter, leaving only the cabin filter and the fuel filter to do and then the service will be done for another 10,000 miles :)
-
Picked up the inlet manifold to injection system gasket this morning, repainted the rocker cover and one of the pipes that was all corroded satin black for that OEM fresh look :)
Refitted everything with my new M6 1.0x20 bolts and crossed my fingers that nothing leaked.................... and it was all good :)

Tomorrow I will change the oil and replace the oil filter and the cabin filter! I will also have a look at possibly re routing some of the loom into the scuttle panel :)
-
Much better mate!
-
Cheers Sean! After working on her and looking back on all the work I have done so far, I'm having doubts on weather I should sell her now!
-
If you sell, it must be replaced by either a VR6 or a Mk1! If you don't sell it, then we want to see a 1.8T engine in there!!
-
Looking good!
-
Recently the mk3 has developed a problem with starting first thing in the morning. The starter motor will turn and turn and turn, but it wont catch! When it eventually does, its a bit lumpy, smooths itself out and then it feels fine. Until you go from first to second gear and there is a loss of power. Eventually, when the engine warms up, its fine and drives completely norma and I wont get any more starting issues for the rest of the dayl! I also noticed this morning, it was low on water, which it never has been before.
Since this problem started, I have replaced the spark plugs, the dizzy cap and rotor arm, and the air filter and also the rocker cover gasket (which was leaking) and also replace the throttle body to inlet gasket, as that was pretty much in two pieces lol! The HT leads looked pretty new, so I didn't replace these. Could it be as simple as replacing the leads? I don't want to buy more parts, unless I know it's going to fix the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-
Can't help you with the starting problem, although my 1.6 did this a couple times but then stopped so I didn't look into it. Anyways when are we gunna see this new project you've bort?
-

Unfortunately, due to the extent of rot I found on closer inspection, the GTI project had gone to the scrapyard lol! It's a good job I hadn't handed over the money lol!
-
O right. Well good luck with finding another one
-
I am just gonna keep the 5 door now mate, better the devil you know and all that! :)
-
Sounds like a plan, I, thinking I shoulda kept the 1.6 due to 40mile round trip to work everyday, but loving the abf in the gti . You gunna do an engine convo on the 5 door?
-
Its looking more and more likely yeah :) I don't know what yet, either an ABF, VR6, 20VT or a PD150.............
Before that though, I have to sort out a few things.
Exterior:
Paint and fit wings
paint doors
Replace and paint O/S Sill
Interior:
Find and install electric window loom
Install heated seat loom
Purchase two more window mechs and motors
Install VR6 leather doorcards
Running gear:
GTI rear beam and G60 rear brake conversion
GTI front wishbones and ARB
VR6 Calipers and pads with G60 discs
Once all this is done, I can think about which engine I want to roll with :)
-
So just a couple jobs to do then . Sounds like quite a project now
-
Haha, seeing as I am keeping it now, and I have to have something to do on it, that's all I have left to do! I never planned on taking it this far LOL. However, I have pretty much tracked down the front wishbones, rear beam and window motors. I just need to get a price for it all tomorrow :)
-
Good plans there mate,
as for the running issue I've got similar problems...I've been following a thread in the mk3 section, there seems to be so many options that links to the same problem, from replays, to ecu temp sender, earthing points, coil etc etc...the only pattern that I have found, is its always the last thing you replace cures the problem
Good luck

Haha, I know exactly how you feel dude lol! First things first, tomorrow, I will clean out all the block connectors and check all the earthing points and see what happens!

Thanks.

Thanks for the great comments :) I found a late model golf and salvaged the aerial and wire from it. After that it was as simple as taking a step drill to the roof ;) It was a bit nerve wracking but worth it as the wing aerials look horrible!
-
Agreed it really does look nasty on the side of the car. ill have to look in to it abit more. just about to take the rear wiper off and vw badge to spray that. (was winning an original mk2 wolfsburg badge but lost out) early days yet but enjoying it. Good to hear you never sold the car mind.
-
Pleased your not selling it now mate.Youve done plenty of work on it,it would be a shame. That rocker cover looks cock on too!

Cheers mate! Nah, I have seen sense and I'm keeping her :)
I'm thinking about colour changes at the moment, I like the idea of keeping the engine bay red and repainting the cups to match, so I need ideas on colours that work with red as a contrast, preferably a metallic :)
I would like to find a fairly original colour if i can, so white and black are out of the running. I have plenty of time to choose as I intend to finish repainting the remaining sill wings and doors red first, drive it round for the summer an repaint it next winter :)
-
Its a hard colour to mix and match red.Cant even come up with a decent suggestion other than dark metallic gold lol
-
It's one of the colours I am contemplating! I like the idea of a bronze :)
-
I think that would look real nice!

Haha, I don't like that at all lol! I think I will be looking for a colour a bit more earthy than that. Plus its to similar to red to be able to pull it off in the engine bay!
-
I tapped real shiny bronze car into google and that came up!
-
Haha, maybe bronze was the wrong word lol!
-
I'n the end id like to have my car in another colour but its just so expensive. your lucky you know what your doing. i'v gone through 4 rattle cans and all the halfrauds around me have now ran out. so mighty pay the extra for them to make a can up for me.

Don't ever get paint from Hellfords...cause when your half way through a job and you have to wait for a delivery the next batch are always a shade different...eg Painting 3 wheels Ford Diamond white...the 4th came out cream!
Just got to a spray shop or if you can afford to do that use matt black

After putting up with my age old JVC head unit jumping on every bump on the road, randomly refusing to play CD's and generally being quite pants, I have decided to jump into the 21st century and get a new stereo :)
In the end, I went for a Sony CD/MP3 head unit with 4x52 Watt output, aux out, 3.5mm jack and USB port. Not bad for a little over £60 from Amazon :)
-
Well, today was productive :) Went up to Exeter to give a quote for some paintwork and booked the guy in to get it done! The I went and had a chat with the guys in GFS who pointed me in the direction of the cold start temperature sensor for being the route of my starting issue. I picked up one of those and a new O ring for just over a tenner and headed home :)
Got back and my new stereo had arrived as well! Bonus! So I set to, and half an hour later, sensor in and problem seems to be solved! The real test will be weather it starts alright tomorrow morning!
I fitted the stereo as well, got it all set up, and thanks to Sony's wiring harness, swapped a couple of wires round, and now the memory function (which I could never get to work on my old JVC unit) works a treat!
Happy days all round really :)
-
Glad everythings going right for someone!
-
^^^
Hope the Temperature sensor does the trick for you, It didn't with me!

Yeah man, I have been reading about your troubles! You'll get it all sorted soon :)
^^^

I jumped in the car this morning to see if the temperature sensor had fixed the problem, I was actually really nervous turning the key lol! She started first time though, and no loss of power :) Problem solved!
Now I have to replace the same thing on my dads MK3 lol!
As a treat for the old gal, now that she's better, I decided I would fit some washers behind the rear stub axles to get a bit of negative camber so I can squeeze my 30mm adapters off the front onto the back, swap my 25mm adapters for some 35mm ones of a mate to push the fronts out a bit more, and play with the coilovers to get her sitting a bit better!
Literally just stepped out the door and its now pissing it down.
Hopefully it will be dry tomorrow and I'll get it sorted then :)
In more body related news, I have tracked down four straight doors to replace mine! once I have these, I will have everything I need to complete the bodywork for this year!

Certainly not Seanl It would seem! At I don't know how lucky buying a new dizzy, rotor arm and throttle body to inlet gasket before buying a temp sensor for a £10 to finally fix the problem is lol!

Had to do something today so I nipped out between it pissing it down and sanded down and painted up a spare grill badge I had nocking around :)

Think I might have cured it today, a spade connector was oily, don't know what sensor it was for tho, gave it a clean seems ok for now!

Much better with the black badge.
Stereo looks good although whats with the massive USB cable, looks well chunky?

I know right! It was the one that came with the external hard drive with all my music on! I wanted to find a stereo with a USB plug in in the back, but on the budget I have, this was the best option.

Dude, I did have some lovely new pics! The missus got hold of the camera and accidentally deleted the pics before I had chance to get them onto the computer! I am gonna get some more pics after the weekend, once the front end has come down a tad more and i have done a few other things :)

Cheers mate! I had a little brain wave last night though, I might try and get some GTI light inners and modify them to fit the Vento lights and Joey Mod them up............. Need some donor lights first though......................

Right, I had expected to have got more paintwork done by this point, and I have been neglecting to polish the old faded paint, so seeing as it was the first day meet this year for me on Sunday, I thought I best get the machine polisher out and make her look all shiney until I can get some more work done!
Before.

I would have go as far as Gravitexing the inside and colouring the insides and edges ready for fitting but I have some how lost the pipe that screws into the stonechip applicator gun! A new gun has been ordered, so now I just have to wait for that to turn up :(
In other news, I have bought some red tinting film to tint my Clear/Red rear lights! I am not sure weather to tint all the Clear section, or just the indicator section........................... Thoughts welcome :)
-
Wings are looking good bud! I'd say go all red on the rear lights!
-

Cheers bud! And yeah, I am leaning towards the all red :)
-
Wings look good....I stonechipped the inside of mine too. Mind nice and easy coats for maximum stickage.

Its gotta be done as MK3's love to rot out around the bottom of the wings! Even though I won't be running any arch liners, I'm not taking any chances lol!
-
Yeah i'm not going to bother with the arch liners either. I'll have to take my wings off just to clean the bugger lol.
-
Haha, I know what you mean lol! I'm looking forward to getting the new wings on and finished though, the old wings really let the car down at the moment. Plus I'll be able to go a bit lower on the front as well ad space the wheels out a bit more :)
-
Today is a good day so far! I managed to get my new wings all stone chip protected and all coloured up on the inside and the edges!
Gravitex applied.
And painted :)

I also ordered a new VR6 Splitter, to replace my fooked one!

Getting there. When is it getting the engine it deserves?
-
Getting there. When is it getting the engine it deserves?
Once I have finished all the bodywork and refurbished and upgraded all the suspension components! Realistically I'll start collecting parts next year, I still haven't decided weather what engine I'll be going with, but I have got loads of time to work that out :)
-
And with a little bit of persuasion, I got the new wings fitted and lined up :)

So after a crappy morning, the weather brightened up and I got cracking with my driveway spray job and cracked out the spray guns! It was ideal, because I have been wanting to see how my compressor coped with the larger guns, and what better then to use my own car as a lab rat!

I am pretty happy with the results too :) Although it will need a bit more flat and polishing that usual, it should come up good!
-
looking good mate keep up the good work

Lookin good mate....what you like for dust with doing it outside? Been painting my Mk3 past couple of days and the warm weather has not been kind in regards to dust. Even in the garage with dust sheeting up I still got bits of crap in the finish. Basically left myself with loads more work flattening and polishing!
-
Surprisingly, they came out quite well to be honest! Granted, a fly landed on one of the wings and they're are a bit dirtier than usual but nothing that flatting and polishing cant cure! As far as the wings them selves, I'm not overly pleased with the fit. I bought non genuine ones and they were a bit of a pain to get them to line up. I take it you bought a set of new wings for yours?

Well one wing I sourced second hand with minimal rust and fits perfect but the other, my drivers side one, is from Chung Fu Ching Enterprises and needed alot of prep work and its still not quite right. It will do for now but will source another genuine one and paint it up sometime in the future. Its the bit above the indicator where it meets the drivers door, its just not quite as flush as it needs to be but think i've done enough to keep your eye off it. Also the line on the bottom section of the wing, the swage line than runs the middle of the bottom half of the doors in more or less non exsistent on the non gen wing. I had a couple of flies too, jus got a wee bit of masking tape and pulled them out. This is the first time i have sprayed with 2k, last car I done was a good few years ago with cellulose and the difference is night and day in regards to the finish. Got a couple of runs but thats no big deal to sort.
-
Yeah, I'm going to get some genuine wings eventually, but these will do for now :) next bit of bodywork for me will be the drivers sill and a chasis notch! When I first started training cellulose was just being faded out and replaced by 2k so I have never had the 'pleasure' of spraying with the stuff, I have heard it reacts really easily though?
-
Yeah i'm not going to bother with the arch liners either. I'll have to take my wings off just to clean the bugger lol.
Better to leave them fitted if you can
-
I really wish I had your skills and tools with regard to paint Dan!
I'm thinking of breaking mine atm cos of the state its in cosmetically, then putting it all toward a nice VR. :undecided:
Anyway, will find out if I have a job on Thursday/Friday morning.
See you at the BBQ on Sunday mate.

Cheers Sean! To be honest, if you get a VR then it may well be in a similar state to yours anyways! I think you are better off having the work done and knowing its done right. Plus, your Corrado is an ideal model should you want to change the engine at a later date :)
-
Sooo, in a complete U turn, my time with this MK3 is coming to an end! I am both happy and sad, but its time to move on :) There will be a few updates to come of how she will end up, then she will be put up for sale and the new car introduced! Once that has all been done I will start a new thread for my new toy! Exciting times!! ;)
-
Wondered where you had been Dan, didn't see you the other week so thought maybe you were busy with something on the car.........
-
Yeah, something came up I just couldn't say no too :) I should have some updates mid week!

-

Cheers, its been fun taking it this far :) I haven't had any problems from the police, ANC the car has never seen an MOT with the smoothed wings on. The side repeaters are tucked under the scuttle panel, so they can be taped to the wings to get a fresh ticket.
-
Wheres this update on the new car.............. that you've been promising for about 3 bloody weeks then!
-
Sooo much hared work and now to be sold!! Well it was a nice journey and hope the next one goes just as well. Fair play Dan!

Haha, it's been a week since I bought my new car ;) I have taken a load of pics of this car before it was sold, and I have taken a load of pics of my new car as well! I just need to find the time to resize them all so I can post them up!
I may wait a little while longer on revealing the new wip though, I want to do a few bits and bobs to it to make it my own before starting a new thread!
Sooo much hared work and now to be sold!! Well it was a nice journey and hope the next one goes just as well. Fair play Dan!
Cheers dude :) I really enjoyed my last MK3. This car will be much better though :)
-
Right, as you guys know, I have bought a new car to replace the More Door :)
It went away to its new home yesterday, but first I had to swap out the bits I wanted to keep or sell separate from the car!
First things first, the Porsche Cups and adapters went to a mate and his Corrado ABF, all the VR6 side trim and the bumpers were replaced with texture tops and cl items, and I got hold of a nice set of Seat 13 inch steels and wheel trims! I also replaced the early vento grill and lights with the original golf counterparts.

The smoothed Vento bonnet was sold and a golf bonnet acquired to paint, in the mean time it rocked a matt black standard Vento bonnet!

And £100 for the four door cards, handles and switches :) I recently had some seats couriered through shiply.com at it cost me around £50 from Sussex but your probably only an hour or two away aren't you?
