Title: No more Golf -Tigan just bought !
Post by: Steve30 on 15 April 2011, 14:39
Well after scouting the country for a GTD and within my price range ive gone and done it, I'm not happy really if i'm honest long waiting list for golf's ? The spec is 5 door Carbon grey, DSG, Xenon's, winter pack, Charlston Shadow's , I might get Acc?,

Nice.
But that's one expensive pair of rear doors.

I do have a bit of a thing for Charleston Shadows though

Forget the ACC. Put it this way you already own a Mk6 golf with 18" alloys and if your happy with the ride its a no brainer?

You have spec'd the right options imo with the DSG &  Xenon's. A great colour also (would be my choice now in hindsight). My only question mark is didn't you fancy a GTI seeing as you all ready have a GTD?

Title: Re: GTD on order

Nice choice

And I thought you were just using the little one as an excuse to get what you've always wanted - a GTI

5 doors are obviously a must.

The GTD is a cracking car if you don't mind diesels. The little one will appreciate the ACC if you can get it, so will you. The best option available in my opinion.

Hope the little one is letting you sleep at nights.

GTD 10 plate fully loaded. Ordered new GTD
Why have you ordered a new one when you have the same one only 1 year old?

It must be you bought second hand and its the wrong colour or doesn't have the options you since found out you need.

GTI for the win, when the baby doesn't go to sleep you'll have to take it for a drive to get it to go to sleep.  But what baby can sleep though that tractor engine noise......

It's not too late to get the GTI

Great colour choice - stick with it.
Go for ACC if you can stretch but why not ditch the Charlston shadows (what's the cost?) and stick with the 'couvers off your current car (swap them over for some joe-average alloys before you trade it in) - they'll look far nicer IMHO and that'll trade off the ACC cost?

You can always buy the Charlston's later if wanted - they're on eBay on and off

Also, what about Dynaudio - i think I'd be tempted for this if I was ordering from new.

Other things can be retro-fitted but ACC and Dynaudio can't be (easily) done without ££££

ACC, Dynaudio, Xenons, Front + Rear Parking Sensors and Sunroof should be factory orders.

ACC is a must. Makes a huge difference to the ride especially in London and is wonderful on motorways. Dylan would really appreciate it. Without ACC, I would hate my car. It is the best option I specified. Don't listen to those who did not spec it. Sour grapes IMO.

Dynaudio is very good value for money and well worth having.

Xenons also worth having if you do lots of kerb crawling at night. Expensive.

Parking sensors are a must for both front and rear. Very good value for money.

Sunroof is not on my radar.

LISTEN TO UNCLE ASKER AS HE KNOWS BEST!!!

Post by: Snoopy on 15 April 2011, 18:53
I would also recomend ACC just so you don't give that poor kid a shaking when their little and fragile.

Parking sensors are very handy as your going to be distracted.

Sunroof is a personal thing but for me i use it 99.9% of the time to lighten the cabin and get fresh air flow. Very handy if some sudden smells start coming from a passenger

Saw a GTD in Red flying down Gray's Inn Road this morning. Looked absolutely stunning. But Red also shows swirl marks.

However, you might enjoy a change in colour from White and really feel you have got a NEW car.

If you go metallic, go Shadow Blue. It's really very classy.

My 3 favourite colours are Red, Shadow Blue and White. Any of these is a great choice.

My 5y old pearlescent black MK5 (13 days til Mk6!) has no swirls.

Hand washed, new sponge everytime, no rubbing, smooth sweeping action.

10 mins clean water hose down before any sponge/paint contact.

Obviously you're losing sleep (nothing to do with the little one..) over the GTD/GTI choice, you need a few more reasons to persuade the logical part of your brain.   (and the wife)

Junior will appreciate the rattles in his cot but not the rattles in the car.
Young children like tractors - he might get confused.
When he watches you fill up at the petrol station he won't think 'why didn't daddy use the nice green one'.
He won't see the sad look in daddy's eyes when he sees a GTI.
He won't worry about daddy's car smoking too much.
When he's old enough he'll brag about you to his mates.

I've said it on here before, but I just can't understand what the deal is on your side of the pond with the mental lead times. Mine arrived at the dealers today, 13 weeks after ordering, and that was long enough. Surely the order-to-delivery process is fairly similar in the UK and Ireland, despite the minor spec differences between us. 6-8 months is just utter nuts and I'd be looking elsewhere if that was the case over here.

EDIT: Maybe it is actually down to different geographical locations, market differences, demand, etc. E.g. Ireland is obviously a much smaller market, maybe its easier for VW Ireland to get their relatively small number of orders through. And maybe even minor spec differences, such as the fact our speedos are in KM/H here, might be more easily available than the MPH version!

Look at it this way - you waited nine months for your bonny son and now a further nine months in very quick succession for your daughter (GTD). Spare a thought for the mother who is doing all the hard work and think of the new arrival as a Christmas present. You are going to have such fun buying her all those pretty frocks.

September is quite optimistic I reckon : )

Aslong as its not a dsg then you have a chance of getting it for then aslong as they had somehting similar on order with a scheduled build week they have just changed the spec of.

Wishful thinking September mate?? Mine was ordered on the 13th April was told would get it by september now moved to December if i'm lucky ? Its bloody joke. I might have to look at different car ? The way things are going with VW and there Golf's also expensive price's simple fact of the matter is i'm not prepared to pay 30k+ for a golf. I hope people on here see it the same way??

Very sad time times really , I just hope it backfires on VW ?

Garage Order 3rd April
My Order overwrote the dealers order on 8th May
Just this weekend it progressed to being a confirmed Order, still no sign of a build week.

Maybe I'll end up with a golf Mk7 if the wait is long enough.  Or at least Mr Osbourne may reduce VAT to curb that b!tch of Inflation....that would be £500 off the cost of the dub on pickup day!

Cheers for the info everybody. Ordered mine 4 weeks ago. A carbon gray Gti. Bluetooth, front and rear sensors,18in Shadow Monzas and 510 radio . Theres no way I,m waiting until halfway through the new reg to get mine. I run a Bmw 320i 07 Coupe at the moment. A great car but I need to go back to a 5 door and have always liked the Golf. Every new car I have bought i have never waited more than 9 weeks. Saab, Toyota, Bmw, Ford etc. What is VW,s problem?

I dropped into Camerons in Perth today and they offered me a week 28 build slot that they already have for a Candy White with 18" Shadows and bluetooth prep. They have three on order for dealer stock and would be able to change the spec (within reason) at the moment, but would be into August before delivery, probably for September 1st. This would have been good if I was just ordering, but having waited 12 weeks already another 8-10 weeks was too much for me.

Roll on Saturday

If I was unable to get what I was after I was all set to buy a Focus RS.....not much difference

Our problem is great product I think every one will agree and huge demand with limited production. People who bought BMW Audi etc last time can't afford those cars again or can't justify it again but still want german quality and are buying ours simple : )

Well after scouting the country for a GTD and within my price range ive gone and done it, I'm not happy really if i'm honest long waiting list for golf's ? The spec is 5 door Carbon grey, DSG, Xenon's, winter pack, Charlston Shadow's , I might get Acc?,
Congratufcukinglations Stevie baby.
Ditch the metallic paint and get ACC instead.
How much is matallic paint Asker over Acc? :undecided:

Metallic paint = £465.
ACC = £790  :smiley:

Sorry guys, I might be a little late here, but I second this motion. I wish I had gone for ACC. Sports suspension can get a little tiresome at times !

Can a dealer bump a order or does it just have to wait for the factory to get its finger out? also is there a rough timeline from order to getting a build week. Reason is my car is due a service and needs 2 rear tyres in a few months. Don,t want to pull money out when I,,m trading it in

Ordered my GTD with DSG on 30 Sept 2010. Was told delivery 16 to 20 weeks, but more likely 20.  Had a commission number in October.  It was only at the beginning of May 2011 that I got a confirmed build date that had been put back to week build 27 (4 July).  I was informed yesterday that my car is now on build week 24, NEXT WEEK.

I was in a similar position - Big (4 year) service coming up, cambelt change and MOT was due on my mk5 after the delivery date for my GTD initially indicated by the dealer.

I contacted them, pointed out I'd been a customer of theirs for many years and asked if they would contribute to towards the cost that I wouldn't have facing if my car had been delivered when I'd expected it to be. The dealer agreed to pay for the cambelt change, the MOT and half the service cost. They're also standing by the trade in value they quoted me back in November for an April delivery, which now looks like being July (car should be built next week!)   Might be worth speaking to your dealer if your current car is a VW and you're trading it in.

Alternatively. it'd be worth checking with your dealer to see if you're entitled to a free loan car. I don't know if VW still offer this, but the arrangement used to be that they would provide you with a free loan car if you hadn't got your car 16 weeks after ordering it (or might have been from the date the factory confirmed acceptance of order; sorry, can't remember). However, with all the current build delay problems, they may no longer do this, but if they do, it could save you some of your forthcoming maintenance costs.

It is a good practical automobile. But knowing you, you'd be fed up with it after a couple of weeks as it's no GTD, not by a long margin. Personally, I'd wait a bit and dream of the day you get that wonderful car. Don't serve your young son with a Tiguan. He'll be disappointed in you and will grow up either hating you or end up with bad taste just like his dad who bought a Tiguan.

Oh, and don't become an old man before your time, please.

Good advice but I would have advised him not to be so hasty, keep his 3 door GTD and wait for the 5 door. He's losing money unnecessarily. He could spend that on diapers.

Well congrats on the choice of new motor. I think the Tiguans are very nice indeed. The diesel is a fine engine for it too.

Get some pics up!

Soon as I get it next week will get some shots on here , If I dont like shall get rid after a year

Keep the order on the GTD, it might just be ready when you come to sell the Tiguan

Good thinking, it'll give you time to arrange a second mortgage the way VW prices are going!

I quite like the idea of the Tig BTW, keep it for a bit and see what takes your fancy in a year or so's time

Frigging joke prices. My local dealer has a used one in at £30k!!! Too many company car drivers buying GTIs now who don't care what they pay meaning VW know they can restrict production and charge what they like - until people can't afford used ones in a few years time and dealers struggle to shift them when they go out of fashion again.

This is why my mates idea of company cars should be enforced by the goverment. You get a sign written van or if you can proove you need to carry people for your job for example estate agents a sign written car or you get nothing. Its also a normal car/van too nothing exotic or prestige.

What a crazy idea.
Some folk are forced in to taking company cars which aren't perks but a necessity. Why should they have to take what they are given or have a sign written car?!?
In my last job I was forced to take a leased car which my employer (NHS) paid for half of. I fail to see why enforcing a car or sign written car on someone would help anyone?

In your case you'd have only had to have one side of the car sign written!
Company cars aren't a necessity unless you're a taxi driver (or similar) and I will from now on label company car drivers as the sole reason why bloody cars have got so expensive, if you're a private buyer and on anything but silly wages you walk if you don't get value for money, company car drivers just pay a bit of extra tax and hammer the crap out of the car making the next owner drive around in a lump of self funded scratched, dented, full of fag ash junk. The only way you'll change my mind is by bribing me.

Was in your neck of the woods yesterday as it was the first day of you know what. Was going to text you and invite for tea and cakes.
I wonder, if one day, if you have time, if you feel up to it, if you don't mind etc, it would be possible to activate my fogs for cornering?
So pleased you got a red Golf.

When you turn left the nearside fog lights up and extinguishes when you straighten the wheel and likewise for turning right with the off side fog lamp - standard spec on some golfs
