i got a new mk5 GT TDI two months ago and always park it in taking up two spaces, i know its the wrong thing to do !!

but one day a fella in asda said to me and there was loads of spaces available  !! Do u realise u take up two spaces he said  and i said is it any business of yours and just got in to my car and drove off!!

any kind of scratch kills me !!!

you will be alrite just make sure it doesnt happen again!!!

To be honest though im sure there is a pretty good chance of someone taking exception to u parking across 2 spaces (especially if it prevents them from parking where they want to) and keying you or something pointless like that. I say this because there was a guy parked next to me in a multistory in leeds in a V8 Vantage who had parked across 2 spaces. I'm sure he had done it in the morning when it wasnt that busy as he was on the very bottom level (its underground so thats the furthest away from the exit), but during the day the queues for that car park become obscene and sure enough when i came back to collect my gti there was a rather fresh looking key mark down the side of it which definately wasnt there wen i got out because i gave it a good looking over! sometimes there is no winning!

The thing that really does it for me is people thinking it's ok to damage someone else's car (by accident or on purpose) and then walking off without a care in the world!

Thats it exactly! Some people simply don't think its a bad thing and don't bat an eye lid! I'v been sat in my old car before and some bag of a mum opened her door n touched my mirror, no damage but have a word luv n be more careful!

If some fool does that in the GTi (when i eventually get it) i will be very tempted to introduce them to Johnny Knuckle n see how they feel then! Any excuse to have a go at some half-wit who hasn't got a clue what the time of day is!

The person who did mine would not admit it.. even when I told him I had seen it on CCTV. I had to get another friend to pretend to see it. It was only then he admitted it. SOmetimes you just have to beat them at their own bullsh1tting game :smug:

This is the second time someone has hit my car and tried to do one. The next time I catch someone doing it I have a good mind to buy a piece of crap and drive it into their car and then drive off and see how they like it. would even be tempted to drive back in the golf and ask them how they feel when some a$$hole does that!

Looks like its attack the MK5 month, had a massive stone hit me on Saturday on my way to work. AutoGlass guy came over today to inject resin into it but you can still see the impact point of the stone so its going to need a new windscreen. Is there anything I need to say when I speak to them on the phone as far as auto wipers and rain sensors?

:(

....Are you blue or green tinted glass? - It needs to match!

No idea, I will have a look before I phone them up at lunch time. Chap that came over said that they are not going to be able to give me a "VW" badged windscreen, he says "It will look the same, it just wont have the VW stamp in the corver because they want £100 just for that badge stamp". Whats the deal with this then? You really dont want to know how much I pay a year for insruance only to then have to fork out £70 when I want a new windscreen only to then be told that I cant have a VW one. Any one know what the law is on this? Can I take it to any place I want to get a new windscreen (local dealer bascially) or can the insurance company give me and new windscreen they want?

Sorry to hijack.

I know your pain.  I came out of my apartment last year to find a note on my C2 VTS (I'd owned since new), giving apologies for reversing into the front of my car.  HOW could you accidentally reverse into someone's car?  Did the woman go blind for a split second?  It's the big red thing parked between two white lines!!  She ruined the front bumper, and buckled the wing on the side.

I rung my insurance company, gave them her registration number, and told them she was at fault.  It was all fixed up in no time at all, and I never heard anything again, so I can only assume the insurance company believed me.  Didn't effect my insurance, and I never had to contact the police :)

she was honest, at least

almost same experience. Old hag opened passenger door of her old crappy Toyota and smashed into my driver's door, leaving a dent and a black spot (from the plastic on her door). My car was one-day old, and I was enjoying a sunny day in San Moritz.  Could not prove anything, as I came and saw the damage just a few minutes too late (she was already walking away with her girlfriend). From that point on I became very particular about where and how I park.

....I don't know the answer to this but if you don't get a response here, start a new specific thread - It's important you get the right advice on this.

Blue tints were on earlier GTI's, I don't know exactly when it was changed to green but after 06 builds.

Well, I spoke to a chap from Autoglass. They are coming over on Saturday to fit it. Gave him my reg and he told me it was an 05 GTI with rain sensors and green tints, so looks like im getting green tint. I honestly cant see if its blue or green on mine so I take it that the glass "specialist" would know what there talking about . .

Started a thrad over in GC in an attempt to get a quick responce - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=90913.0

Yup.  Do NOT let AutoGlass, or any of the windscreen companies fit any of their "own brand" windscreens.  AutoGlass make theirs in South Africa, and they are no where near as good quality as OEM spec (poor optical clarity, poor tinting).

Furthermore, non OEM screens are well known for messing with the sensativity of the rain and light sensors.  Just demand they fit a genuine VW OEM screen - your insurance company must comply (they are supposed to only fit genuine parts, but how the fcuk they all get away with cheap screens is beyond me).

I had to report Norwich Union to Trading Standards, citing "monopoly" conditions, when they insisted that I "will ONLY use NUs own windscreen fitters, and will not get a genuine screen" - a quick fone call soon had NU eating humble pie, and me with a genuine screen from an independent fitter!  :smug:
