Cheers, I shall get on the case when I get home then. Only problem I have is Im not going to be in when they fit it as Im at football this Saturday so its just going to bethe old dear at home. I will give them a call to confrim its going to be an OEM VW windscreen. Just to confirm this TT I am completly in my right to "demand" an orginal VW windscreen?

Personally, I'd change it to a time when you can be there to watch the actual install.  And I certainly wouldn't use AutoGlass either.  Pick up the yellow pages, and look for an independent screen fitter.  Explain to them you only want a genuine VW screen, and if they can't supply, then try elsewhere.

Absolutely right.  Its your car, and you have the final say on (a) what bits are fitted [non-gen or OEM], and (b) who actually carries out the work - even for insurance claims.  You do NOT have to use the screen company which your insurance company may try to demand.  If they do try it on, explain to them they will not only be breaching specific UK competition laws, but will also be breaching the very specific UK insurance industry standards, which clearly state that ONLY genuine parts must be fitted - and there are no exceptions.

Incidentally, my local Audi stealership routinely reject any warranty claim to do with auto headlamps and wipers where non OEM screens have been fitted.  Furthermore, they also have a contract with a local "independent" screen fitter, and use gen OEM screens, and it goes through customers insurances without any hassles, and with the standard £50/60/70 glass excess.

Don't let your ins co fob you off with this.

Didn't want to wait till i got home. Spoke to Autoglass and they said they are not going to be fitting an OE glass. So i said well I want OE glass. She has put a request in to Elephant but expects that I will have to pay for the full cost as Elephant probably wont authorise the fitting of OE glass. I am on the phone to Elephant now as I type this. Why can I see this being a pain in the arse !!! :(

Alan, just "advise" Elephant of the ABI (www.ABI.org.uk), and that you also happen to be a member of "Consumers Association" who do the Which mag.

I suppose a better site to get some additional info would be Martin Lewis's MoneySavingExpert.com forum.

Only another 80 minutes before you get an answer then!      Vivaldis four seasons?

Funny how they never want to keep you on hold when they want to take money off you (for new business or renewals).

Man -

WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THEY CAN JUST DAMAGE YOUR PROPERTY??

Pity you didn't take any photos on your mobile etc, might have proved useful.

In all honesty, it might be worth running a claim through your insurers, giving them the other car's registration number. A couple of letters from your insurers might do the trick.

On a lighter note, reminds me of when I worked in a motor claims department. A friend of mine had the following conversation with one of our customers:

Joe: Hello, Joe speaking, can I help you?
Customer: Hi, I've received a letter from you saying I my car was involved in an accident on Saturday, but I wasn't anywhere near Tesco's car park on that day!
Joe: Who said anything about Tesco's car park?
Customer: Oh sh!t
