Headliner now in pics
« on: 17 April 2008, 19:32 »
So I attempted to re-trim my headliner last month. It went bad

I have just got hold of another headliner and pillars so the fun has started again

First I have pulled the old stuff off

Then got wire brush to take off the foam

Expanding foam in the handle recesses, messy stuff

Sawed the foam down and used filler to get them all flush, used the filler to repair some small dents and weaker patches of the liner

Done this in satin black

This time round I am going to use a brush-on adhesive glue, cant be arsed with spray stuff.

Im thinking of using acoustic carpet as its stretchy and thick, so glue shouldnt seep through, what you reckon?

i finally done my lining, started to sag a little but htats cos i ran out of glue and rushed it. i like your idea of deleting the grab handles, should make it easier to cover with no tricky corners to do now. i like wot you did with switch, i've left mine grey for now along with the sunroof piping. just taking ages because i have no time.

i've sprayed my sunroof slide cover, sun visors and grab handles (wish i'd thought to delete mine tho)  but covered the lining in suede. I took all pillars plastic out and wrapped those in suede too. run out of material and need to get some more to finish rear panels.

The screws that hold on the grab handles are one of the main things that hold the lining to the roof, could give you some issues there

I was thinking this also, Im hoping all the rear pillars will do enough to hold it all up. The sunfroof will hold the front, just the rear.

Early passats have black grabs which will fit, and the cabrio has black visors also
