Do you know what cable it is?
« on: 02 March 2008, 22:54 »
Whilst doing my daily engine check up  i found a brown cable that goes from the engine head but its not attached to anything on the other end. It finishes in a round kind of shape. Do you know what this could be? maybe oil related, cos the oil light flashes when the ignition is turned on and my oil level is full, filled it up last week.

The oil light normally flashes when you turn the ignition on before you start the engine, doesn't it?

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

That should most likely be connected to the carburettor, this makes sure the carb is earthed and therefore reduces the risk of the carb becoming live and then a spark being caused (not desirable for obvious reasons). This is needed as the carb is mounted on a rubber block and therefore doesn't have any other explicit earth connection.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

Hit the nail right on the head.  :)  Certainly not a good idea to have dodgy earth's.  Not only for that reason, but bad earth's are a common cause of power issues.  You can gain valuable HP from fitting a decent make grounding kit.
