unless someone on here knows, it will tell you which one it is in the and where the fusebox is in the handbook,  if you sont have it the best way i know of finding out is to look around for the fuse box in the car, it will usually be either in the driver or passenger footwell under a panel which will unclip, when this panel comes down or off there may be a diagram of the fuse layout, if not get a torch and start searching for one that looks fried! it will probably be a red 10A one ( maybe blue 15A but i doubt it, it wont be any other colour)

I had someone at Halfords look at it, it seems that I now have no constant power, but there is power from the ignition. He thinks that somewhere along the way that the constant live wire has broken, he has got it being powered by the ignition only but that means the HU has no memory!!

I guess I will have to get someone who knows what they are doing to fix it properly,

I should have left it well alone!!

We live and learn!!

Cheers

i really wouldnt power it just from the ignition! its not supposed to be like that, the ignition switch might give up, that wouldnt be good, my mates mk2 did this,it might not but its quiet likely i would say. i wouldnt use the stereo at all, or ever take your car to halfrauds, they dont have a clue, could you not find a blown fuse as this is probably where the wire is 'broken' the wire cant have just broken.

The fuses are behind a panel which is loacted on the end of the dash which abuts the drivers side door. Open the door fully and you can remove the cover panel of the fuse box and locate and replace the stereo fuse.

The fact that you stereo worked all the time (without the key) in its original configuration means you have/had a permanent live - this wire has not broken or your stereo would not have worked without the key - the opposite of your original problem.

I would ask my dog a question about wiring before I asked the advice of a spotty Halfords worker - I'm sure there are exceptions, but most of them have absolutely zero knowledge other than what's written on the boxes they're selling, hence this nugget of wisdom.

As Tom says, how likely is it that a wire has just 'broken'? If you were closer to me I'd gladly offer to get you up and running.....

I did find a blown fuse, but when I replaced it there was still no power, so not sure what it controlled?

As I said I think I will get someone who knows what they are doing to fix it.

Thanks for all your advice :-)

Cheers
