nah slick the firing order is the oposite way round on an 8v, we've already covered the firing order pretty well I think

Slick - The firing order is still correct for the 16v but the dizzy shaft spins anticlockwise. Re: my earlier post this afternoon, I cocked that up  :embarassed: should be 1342,1342 etc not 1324 as stated, otherwise moving the 'lead to dizzy' connectors around clockwise is a quick check/fix if the dizzy shaft is mis aligned.  :smug: I think I'm going to find a dark room and have a lie down now!

you guys know your stuff and this only a suggestion but if all the above is working have you looked at your igntion relays as if you have all the above spark ,fuel and the likes you will still turn over but nothing without the correct relays i will now go back to my corner!!!!!!

fitted the 1.8 back in a few days ago  got everything wired up ( at least i think its all in properly) the car will turn over, and sparking but wont "run" cant see anything visibly wrong with it, just not sure what else it could be. the timings ok,its getting fuel and a spark,  weve checked that, but dunno where else to look now, can anyone help or gimme anything i should check, or if anyones local to me who can come and have a look itd be mucho appreciated

thanks Sarah

Hiya, I know it's been covered, but it does sound like a timing issue - I aint no mechanic, but surely if you've got a spark, fuel delivery, and compression, unless the timing's completely wrong, the car should at least attempt to fire? I'm fairy local and don't mind having a look - check ya pm's! Dont give up!

i had this with mine as jonny he will tell ya!
turn the engine over until no1 is at tdc ie the bottom pulley mrk is on the arrow on the cam cover.then pull the bung on the gearbox and make sure the tdc mark on the fly wheel is on the marker on the gearbox??if its not then sumik is adrift with the timing???if all is well then its all good so far.
next turn the ignition on as though you are about to start it,then go to the dizzy checking that the rotor is pointing at  no1 you will know by looking round the outside of the dizzy edge there will be a notch in it the rotor should be pointing at this!replace the cap and turn dizzy untill you hear a click with turn it back and fourtrh so that youve got it right on the click and then turn the dizzy back(anti clockwise a couple of mllimetres and tighten dizzy.now try and start it?????
this is basically the standard setting if she doesnt fire up theres defo sumik else wrong apart from fueling and spark it would suggest that you timing is all over the place and it could all do with retiming, valve timing, ignition timing and time for a sit down to try and clear you head of all the threats of smashing it up or burning it!lol hope this helps thiis is what i did to mine and she fired up first time after i had set the valve timing :embarassed: :embarassed:
