I’d love some copies of the brochures, I asked in the dealer and they said they don’t supply anything anymore as it’s all digital

Try an internet search on ‘yyyy VW Golf Price and Spec Brochure pdf’ (yyyy = insert the year you’re interested in) and you will find some:- not all years, but you should be able to find a selection of mk7 and mk7.5 brochures. You can then save them as favourites.

I think the last brochure VW produced for the Golf (on line version) was the Sept 2021 brochure for the mk8 Golf.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Check the spec label in your handbook, 230PS in KW is 169 so it should have that printed.

Dug out the manual…. This is the sticker

I’ve not got chance to get under it anytime soon to see from under it

So its a mk7.5  - and its 169kw so it is a GTI non Perf.

Also hello from another northerner :)

Can be cheaper and RHD. I read somewhere (on here I think) that rust protection may not be up to UK / EU standards as Japan does not salt roads in Winter, not sure how true that is though.

Such a Debbie Downer Adam..! The car was exported to Japan from Germany so I doubt VW withheld rust protection just cos it was an export from Germany.

I don’t wish to be rude or go slightly off topic but what would be the advantage of importing a Golf from Japan?
Pardon my ignorance in advance.

Well since the UK voted leave, car buyers in the Republic of Ireland are screwed on VAT and Customs duty if we try and import a cars from UK anymore. Japanese cars are dirt cheap at auction and they are usually in amazing condition. The auction grades are very strict and reliable. The low cost of the car at auction offsets the shipping and taxes charges and represents amazing value. All RHD and speedos in KM etc. there’s entire motor dealerships sprung up all over Ireland with used Japanese cars and they are actually really good cars. Personally I just got mine direct as it saved about 5k on a dealer price.
