Last weekend I cleaned and dry wax lubed the inside of the door felt seals which is a well documented procedure and seemed to make a slight reduction in noise levels.

Yesterday I used anti-rattle tape on the rear seat catches which made a bigger difference than expected eliminating a rattle which I hadn't really noticed.

The result is that I still have an occasional rattle from the drivers door noticeable at low (<20mph) speeds which disappears when the window is opened slightly. But tyre noise is now more obvious than before..

Therein lies the problem with 'rattle chasing' - with every noise you fix, the next becomes more apparent.

Is the door rattle not the usual one of missing tape/felt on one of the bits of the mechanism for the door handle.

Hi all . I was keen to try this fix and I ordered the harmonic damper and bolts from e-acca on 9th September. So far it has not arrived. I think others on this thread have ordered from them too. How long did yours take to arrive?  I checked the order details on their website, using Google translate which suggests it was despatched on 10th September and seems to be sent from Latvia.

Hi Ceefeesh, mine took just over 4 weeks to arrive, it is not a miracle cure just smooths out some of the body harmonic noise, I still have a thrumming on mine that is probably wheel bearing / drive shaft. I have just changed the tyres and on first impression does seem quieter but that might be me!!

Another way to reduce noise, especially wind turbulence noise from the rear multilink suspension is to fit the MK8 Golf lower arm aero covers...it also reduces drag & I've seen at least a 2.5% improvement in MPG...but I have the estate & my aero is different..

Easy to fit...if you don't have a rivnut gun to fit the lower two rivnuts just order more of the plastic fixing for the top, same hole size in the arm & one member on the MK8 forum has been racing & done 140mph with them fixed like this no problems..

all info in the first few posts here:-

golfdave,
1st off, thanks for your how to guides-very much appreciated.
Just about to order these from e-acca,I’ll just be using the spreader rivets.
I have the Mk 5 rubber ones fitted at present using only the spreader rivets and they’re still on the car-shame the Mk 8 covers couldn’t fit over the Mk 5 covers-would that work,or would it disrupt the airflow?
My thinking being,it’s double protection.

Thanks Golfdave, good advice as always esp the 'workarounds' as I do not have a rivet gun capable of dealing with 'nuts'. Will have to get some of these.
