Yea VW are doing that for a simple oil filter now I had the part number for.

I told them I do not have the VIN or know the registration number so the guy walked out to look at my car. Maybe I should have told him I had come in the wifes BMW? He eventually gave me the oil filter.

I just ordered the damper through audi Solihull, will be here later this week and came to about £62 including the nuts.

Seems like some dealers are helpful!

Is there any feedback confirming Dave's improvements achieved by fitting the damper?

Jury is still out for me if it's made much of a difference, but I need to drive the car on a variety of surfaces to give a proper verdict.

Just fitted this, I agree with Sootchucker, unsure if it makes much change.

Initial drive it thought it did, but second drive this morning not so sure, i think there is a subtle improvement, but nothing huge.

Thankfully for me, it was only £50 quid as i got full trade discount and it's a 5 minute fit.

Will give it a few more days over different surfaces.

Fitted my damper following research into issues prior to purchase.
There is definitely an issue and Vw know this hence why there is a part to help resolve it.
However,I can’t give a before and after because I fitted mine at 500 miles, the thought being i’d try to rectify any potential issues straight away.
Have you torqued it up correctly as per ‘golfdaves’ how to?-that guy seems to be the forums resident expert.

Yeah, actually that's quite an important point as I guess if it isn't torqued up properly then the "studs" on the dampener can move about in the sub frame holes, totally defeating the purpose of the unit in the first place.

Pretty sure I torqued mine up properly but I'm (hopefully) going back under the car this weekend as I managed to bag the exhaust tunnel forward cover and the exhaust rear cover (near the fuel tank) for a great price (£20 for both including all fittings - brand new), so will give these a go at the weekend and re-check the dampener whist I'm at it.

That’s a great price,where was that from?
Did the rear tray come with the bracket that needs attaching to the bodywork 1st?

Yep, EBay, a project someone started but never got round to fitting.

I'll get some photos up when done (if it doesn't rain at the weekend)

Update from me on the harmonic damper now its been on week and I've done a few miles with it.

For me, it does make an improvement to the suspension noise, from the rear sub- frame, noises are more subdued and it just seems a little more solid.

Road / tyre noise, again i think there is a very slight improvement but very much dependant on road surface, on quiet surfaces, it seems to be even quieter, however on noisy surfaces it doesn't seem to have had that much of an effect, i guess down to noise frequency and how it transmits through the car.

Only solution i see for that is sound deadening, expensive  or turn up the audio, free, which is what i will continue to do.
