Slightly off topic, but I was in the dealers this weekend with the wife, (as we drive right past it's front door on the way into town). I asked my salesman about the underseat drawer issue (i.e. them missing on the latest build cars). Sure enough the GTi and the GTD they had in the showroom were both missing them.
Thing is VW haven't even bothered to put a blanking piece in where the drawer was, so the area is now totally open and unfinished (see image below - not the best but what I could get with the phone up against the bulkhead)

I then asked how much were the drawer units so he went to the parts department and came back with the following :
5G0 882 601 A 82V Drawer Titan Black £44.03
5G0 882 599 A 9B9 Guide frame satin black £19.48
Including the VAT - £76.21...WTF !!!! That's just for one side !
I told them that at least Dick Turpin had the common decency to wear a mask when robbing people (which they both laughed and and sort of agreed with me). They could do a little bit of discount but still ?
In any case, what was of interest is that VW's ETKA only shows the part numbers for the passenger side drawers and not the drivers side, and indeed it carries a note saying that a drawer must not be fitted under the drivers seat ? They could only surmise that this was a safety measure in case the drawer opened and something came out and jammed under say the brake pedal ?
When I told them my 2013 GTD and my current 2016 GTD, and members on here with 2017 performance Golf's had them fitted as standard on both sides, they were pretty perplexed. Does anyone know if there really is an issue with retrofitting them to the drivers side in a 2018 model, as I think it just looks horrible and cheap as it is ?
Does member evo1986 (who I believe works for a dealer) have any details as to when exactly these were deleted (and also what else that's perhaps not been noticed was also deleted for the 2018 model year ?
That's an absolute disgrace how that is left, shame on VW
