I just went with the standard nav as didn’t think £1325 was worth it.

In terms of how long it takes, car ordered 9/1 arrived in the UK to the dealer by 20/2. I guess it is options and colour dependent but that’s 6 weeks from order to delivery!

Nav Pro every time for me. First thing I spec and don't care if people think it's worth it or not.

Ha no seriously I was Andy - he's gone in today and ordered it. But it was talking to him that got me thinking and made me discuss with my dealer.

I was only joking, it had the right amount of back story to be someone else! Anyway, I've tried using a SD card tonight to play movies and it didn't work I'm afraid. I think there might be an option using mirrorlink but it was getting too cold out on my drive - certainly not as easy as running off the SD card!

I don't regret not speccing the Pro Nav at all - I think VW made it difficult for me to spec it by putting all their focus on the touchless scrolling which didn't seem to work when I tried it, rather than on the benefits you have set out here - but I guess it's once you've had Pro, will the standard system be good enough.
the gesture control works find, a bit too fine if you ask me, put your hand on the gear lever and it changes track, pick up a drink from the cup holders again changes track, after a day it was turned off

One thing I do prefer about my standard MIB3 Discover nav over the Discover Pro is the physical buttons that can be used for scrolling through the menus, but more importantly through my music collection. Trying to do this with the touchscreen is a faff.

I've used both Google maps and the VW nav, and I think I prefer having the VW map on the AID. When it's in nav mode I don't need to look at the head unit, so for me the inability to have nav showing on both screens isn't a massive issue. Ideally it would be great to have Google maps showing in the AID, but as far as i've been able to establish, that isn't possible, even with the Discover Pro.

Yep, me too... as soon as I could find how to turn it off!

If I'm using VW Nav, I have a big scale map on the MIB and a smaller scale one on the AID, plus the dials in Nav mode which gives me direction indication...

Don't use it much though, prefer both the route selection of Google/Waze which handles traffic much better (even with carnet active).

If you frig around you can get VW Nav maps on the AID and Google/Waze on the MIB if you really want...

Getting Google/Waze on the AID would be lovely, but I don't think we'll see that until the Mk8.

Has anyone with the new Nav Pro found it a bit strange that to go from say Radio to Media to Telephone etc. you have to first hit the menu button then hit the corresponding icon on screen. Whereas with the lower (standard) priced unit, as it has physical shortcut buttons (like the older MIB I & II units), you can go straight to the main screens you need.

Just trying to decide if despite the added functionality and resolution of the bigger screen on the Nav Pro, if VW removing the physical shortcut buttons proves very annoying or not ?

I'll be going into the dealership again later so would appreciate any comments.

Its different but you get used to it. Also, I use voice control to switch between modes anyway...

I would not have specced the nav pro, but my new 7.5R has it (because a car more or less specced as I wanted was ready and delivered within two weeks of my order). There is no doubt that it looks pretty cool, but I don’t use half the features and feel sure that I’d have been more than happy with the basic system. This brings me on to one more related thing. As I mentioned my car was pretty well specced, but after confirming my order I noticed that my car was not fitted with dynaudio, something I loved on my GTD. I listened to the basic system, using my iPod, on a 7.5GTI and immediately thought I’d have to fit the helix system to get the sound I wanted. However, I have been really impressed with the sound provided from the Nav Pro. Is there really a difference in the sound of the pro compared  to the basic or am I just kidding myself?
