Sounds lovely, but I'd ditch the keyless! Especially living where you do in the badlands...

I initially wanted keyless entry but ditched it over security worries. Especially after I read the following on Porsche’s Configurator (they call it Porsche Entry & Drive) but I imagine same tech :- “Note : The Porsche Entry & Drive System uses state of the art technology. However it cannot be completely ruled out that the key’s wireless encryption code is intercepted and used to open or steal the vehicle”

Back on thread topic, I’d agree £1,300 over and above the standard Navigation is crazy money, but as I was on a relatively tight budget it was a no brainer to stay standard.

Out of interest do either system use real time traffic info or are they still TMS?

I see from your other post Sootchucker that you kept the spec pretty basic

Congratulations on the order, it is going to be a fantastic car, albeit with too many doors

Well....life’s to short and if I’m going to the bother I’d ditching my great GTD, then it will have to be something very special to replace it.

The technique is signal amplification - by amplifying the signal constantly sending from your keyless entry fob then can effectively bring your key closer to the car. Its in the hallway at home typically and so stuff an amplifier up to the front door and vroom, car open, engine started. No "encryption" will save you from that.

Yes it does use TMS but Nav and NavPro also come with a 3 year CarNet subscription which gives you live traffic by using your phone as a wifi hotspot to which you connect your car.

Its still not great though!

As long as your keys are stored in a metal box or special pouch at home the amplification of signal can't happen. Just remember the spare has to be stored this way too.

Slightly off topic, but I was in the dealers this weekend with the wife, (as we drive right past it's front door on the way into town). I asked my salesman about the underseat drawer issue (i.e. them missing on the latest build cars). Sure enough the GTi and the GTD they had in the showroom were both missing them.

Thing is VW haven't even bothered to put a blanking piece in where the drawer was, so the area is now totally open and unfinished (see image below - not the best but what I could get with the phone up against the bulkhead)

I then asked how much were the drawer units so he went to the parts department and came back with the following :

5G0 882 601 A 82V Drawer Titan Black   £44.03

5G0 882 599 A 9B9 Guide frame satin black £19.48

Including the VAT - £76.21...WTF !!!! That's just for one side !

I told them that at least Dick Turpin had the common decency to wear a mask when robbing people (which they both laughed and and sort of agreed with me). They could do a little bit of discount but still ?

In any case, what was of interest is that VW's ETKA only shows the part numbers for the passenger side drawers and not the drivers side, and indeed it carries a note saying that a drawer must not be fitted under the drivers seat ? They could only surmise that this was a safety measure in case the drawer opened and something came out and jammed under say the brake pedal ?

When I told them my 2013 GTD and my current 2016 GTD, and members on here with 2017 performance Golf's had them fitted as standard on both sides, they were pretty perplexed. Does anyone know if there really is an issue with retrofitting them to the drivers side in a 2018 model, as I think it just looks horrible and cheap as it is ?

Does member evo1986 (who I believe works for a dealer) have any details as to when exactly these were deleted (and also what else that's perhaps not been noticed was also deleted for the 2018 model year ?

The price doesn't surprise me one jot. I'd say that was about in line with what I'd expect.

As for "safety" have a play with the German configurator - I'll bet they are on there...

Could be another fog-gate!

More importantly Fred, I downloaded the price list for the performance Golf's on the VW Ireland website, and sure enough on the standard spec it lists "Top Sport Seats front, height adjustable, including headrests, with lumbar support. With drawers under front seats"

So we know it can't be a RHD issue. My thinking is that this is something VW UK did to claw back some money after the "fog light gate" crisis in mid 2017.

I'm based in Dublin and have a 7.5 R on order so have been interested in these reports of the under seat drawers missing on all facelift models. I took a look again at the spec lists here in Ireland and all GTD, GTI and R's have under seat drawers listed as standard spec. So as you say Sootchucker it's not a RHD issue.

I haven't got my car yet but it'll be one of the first things I'll check to see if the drawers are there or not as I agree with you, it looks awful and unfinished from the picture you posted. Definitely has a cheap/penny pinching look to it..
