TBH, ACC is the sole reason when we came to replace both my car and the wife's in May last year that she opted for another Polo Blue GT (which to be fair she loves anyway), rather than a Polo GTI that she was going to get.

Whilst we both really liked the styling on the GTI (and the LED headlights which were great), the GTI didn't come with the option of  ACC (note sure why as it's the top model), but the Blue GT did at a modest cost. That's how much she came to appreciate the technology when driving my GTD(s). Coupled with the DSG in both cars, it means we can swap from one car to another and drive both in a similar manner.

Rarely use the ACC despite thinking the tech itself is great and seemingly more responsive in the later models having switched from 63 plate to 66 plate recently.

Would I option ACC? not really for use get out of it

BUT, having been saved by once and just having the knowledge of the front assist working passively away takes it now to the must have category on a new car for me.

You cannot have ACC without Front Assist, so ACC to me is just a bonus feature occasionally use.

If budget and car value was so good on second hand the lack of Front Assist would not stop me purchasing as second family car has no bells and whistles and it still does the same job as the R (gets to A-B and back) - If can get it, its great tech but if getting great value then its not a game breaker

One question for otthers though, is do you have to declare does not have front assist for insurance , or would your quote be automatically calculated by the Registration plate? as front assist does bring the insurance category down, i think?

Only time I don't like it is when I've forgotten to turn the stop/start off and the car kills the ignition. You have put your foot on the accelerator to go again and it doesn't pull away smooth enough for my liking.

You don't need to press the accelerator just press the res button and it will move again. The car will automatically restart the engine when the traffic starts moving anyway.

I think that might be the later models that restart automatically.

As for pulling away smoothly again I wonder if this is different from earlier models as mine pulls away really smoothly.

I always drive with mine in Sport, that may be why it's not so smooth on pull away.

I will try the RES button from stop though, hadn't thought of trying that. Only had the car for 6 weeks, so I'm still a novice!

I like the ACC a lot and mine's a manual.

The only real change is that if it slows you down a fair amount and you need to change down, you have to do it manually. Still don't need to touch the throttle though, just clutch and gearstick - also the same if changing up with ACC on.

Forgot to add, it would have been nice as well if VW had added the option of Cruise with ACC and Standard cruise for those times when you have plenty of space and can move out into another lane without the car slowing you down, but it's a very minor point. Just might have pleased more people if you could choose to turn off ACC and just have regular cruise as before.

You still have manual throttle control even with ACC on... if you want to go faster, press the loud pedal and accelerate to whatever speed you want... useful when you want to pull out from behind something on the motorway but don't want the dreaded ACC slow down as you pull into the fast lane.

Also when you indicate right to pull out I think it actually (at least partially) overrides the distance sensor.

I'm sure the ACC flashes up on screen when it detects a car within it's range, before it's comes within the gap/range you set ahead of your vehicle?

Gives you time to changes lane prior to the car slowing you down upon approaching said vehicle.

(That makes sense in my head!)

Of course, but when you are on a busy motorway doing 70mph in the inside lane it tends to be a case of you approaching something doing less than seventy and then have to find a gap in the next lane that is full of people doing 70+, which usually means you reach the slow vehicle before you can pull out....
