I think they look better without and I'm not particularly impressed by the technology either. I don't use cruise control, the brake assist is a pita (and should come with a laundry warning) - the only good thing is the reduction in insurance premiums.

I've got to agree with all of that.
+1..Too much tech. not a lover of cruise control, perhaps its because I do not do a lot of motorway driving.

I put it on when going through average speed camera zones - and there's a lot of them near me right now. The local council has had a road improvement windfall and has wrecked my commute route with 4 major works expected to last 2 years, all within a 5 mile radius.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Sure it's proper UK spec? On a 63 plate, it won't be one of the very early demos that came through without. My Dad's GTD was one of the first in the UK (registered 1st July 13) and had ACC. I'm pretty sure Irish cars didn't get ACC for quite a while.

That's right. It was a factory option here until late 2014. Standard since then.
I remember the few very early UK demos didn't have it - the one in Exonian's pic is probably one of those.

I like the tech, it's pretty effective on the motorway, especially with DSG.

I agree it looks crap in the lower grill. Good that they're finally moving it behind the badge in the facelift.

Indeed it was Joe, that pic was taken at my local dealer in March or April 2013 and was the first mk7 GTI I saw in the flesh. I think my order had already gone in by then but that red car didn't exactly invoke love at first sight!!

It works really well with DSG. Not sure I would want it with manual.

My wife has ACC on her A3 and thinks it is great. It is one of the things she misses when using my car.

Anyone ever seen a Mk7 GTD with a single non-chrome exhaust? I was sitting behind one in a town today, as it was getting dark. It had the LED rear brake lights too. I moved past it and the whole front end was definitely Mk7 GTD. Some young boy has gone to a lot of trouble to make his 1.6 diesel look like a GTD!

+1 for DSG and ACC. Really like it, especially when I was driving up the M3, through the average speed checks, then in London earlier this week.

Only time I don't like it is when I've forgotten to turn the stop/start off and the car kills the ignition. You have put your foot on the accelerator to go again and it doesn't pull away smooth enough for my liking.

Can see why people with 6MT wouldn't appreciate it so much, unless you were mile munching on the A and M roads in 6th.

Mine is a 63 plate GTI with ACC.

You don't need to press the accelerator just press the res button and it will move again. The car will automatically restart the engine when the traffic starts moving anyway.

I think that might be the later models that restart automatically.

As for pulling away smoothly again I wonder if this is different from earlier models as mine pulls away really smoothly.

When the car is moving tt works the same in manual as a DSG.
Its only when its about to come to a stop it pings you and tells you to press the clutch but once moving its pretty much the same.

Its not like the old manual cars that once you pressed the clutch the cruise switched off.

ACC is brilliant (even with manual) if you are someone who drives the car for any distance. More than just a licence saver, it enables you to get somewhere and not be exhausted.

Honestly, IMHO, the best piece of car tech that's come along in a very long time.

As for it not being on the car the OP is looking at.... maybe its an Irish one. They didn't get all sorts of things as standard and I know there are a lot of those cars in mainland UK stock at the moment - can't remember which of the second hand supermarket things was importing them.
