On with this update now! Seems to be taking much longer than before. Maybe the files for MIB 2 are larger than for MIB 1? I'm hoping the muddled "in town" directions are a bit clearer.

Well, I just completed the update process, which probably took around 3.5 hours, in all! Left with a bit of a mystery, in that the new data is 12.7GB, versus 14.7GB for the old data. Not sure why that should be - usual experience is that data increases at updates, but hey.

Checked the updated SD card in the car and it accepted it without any delay and displayed the usual map screen correctly. Tried putting in a route from my destinations, which are all there, and everything seemed to work as it should. Not tried driving a route yet, but can't see any reason for concern.

So, as to whether it's worth investing 3.5 hours of your life in this update, I can't yet help, but the last update I did, which was November last year on an MIB 1, replaced one verbal error with another, on the same road! I was hoping that this update would get rid of the bit where she inserts an unnecessary "street" into directions, as in "turn right into "street" Wisteria Avenue", but, as said, yet to drive a route.

How fast or slow is your internet? Or does that not determine the 3.5 hour download time!

Superfast BB (50 thingys) and still took an hour! The file transfers were across a usb hard drive and a usb card reader/writer, so would probably be faster more directly.

However, another problem has been pointed out in that, following the instructions provided, which haven't been changed, the extracting process only deals with the first of two downloads - hence giving only 12.7GB of data, versus 14.7GB pre update data. Doesn't seem to be a way to extract all files without filling the card. A UK guy on the other forum has hit the same problem and has emailed the nav software outfit for instruction, so we will see!

Wasted an afternoon for nothing! Currently returning backup files to SD card. Hope it works when I've done! Proper cockup here, I reckon.

Relieved that restoring the old data to my SD card has worked, but annoyed that, what should be a straightforward process, has not been properly trialed, or given proper instructions. VW should care!

The map updates are nothing to do with VW its outside company that do it. Do agree though that the new 2 part download is crap.
