Relieved that restoring the old data to my SD card has worked, but annoyed that, what should be a straightforward process, has not been properly trialed, or given proper instructions. VW should care!
The map updates are nothing to do with VW its outside company that do it. Do agree though that the new 2 part download is crap.

......but VW will be paying "Here" for maintaining the map systems for the Satnavs in their cars. This reflects on them. Not value for their money, or ours! That's why I say VW should care.

Tried and failed.  No way I can get a 16.8Gb file to fit a 16Gb SD card. Maybe I'm missing something or are we going to be issued 32Gb cards at next service?

I did wonder if the EU1 or EU2 files were for EU stay / BREXIT?

You must have done it wrong as it's only 14.8gb one unzipped. You need both parts but I found it easier to download the 18 individual parts and they just unzip part 1.

I downloaded the two parts and, following the current instructions, expected the extraction of files from download 1 to continue through download 2. It didn't, but the resultant card, with 12.7GB of data, vs 14.7GB before the update, worked in the car. After concern was expressed, on the other forum, I tried all ways I could think of to extract download 2, but always hit a full card, as I might have expected, had I thought about the bit about 16.8GB on the download page!

Glutton for punishment,  and curious too, I will try doing the 18 part method today!

I've put the full 18 parts into a folder and then unzipped part 1. It looks like its done all the parts.

Don't think so.

I have done that and ended up with the same 12.7GB of data on the card as when I tried extracting from the two downloads. If you look at the 18 downloads, they are a group of 13, with one root name, and another group of 5, with another root name. Seems like extracting from the 18 gives the same result on the SD card as extracting from the two.

What GolfPilot, on the other forum, has found is that the countries included in the first download are duplicated in the second, except for Russia and Turkey, which are only incuded in the second, so, if you only extract the files from the first download, you are covered for everywhere, except Russia and Turkey.

I have put my updated SD card, with data for everywhere except Russia and Turkey, back in my car and it seems to work as it should. When I tried to enter new destinations in Russia or Turkey I was not given the option after selecting the first letters of "R" or "T", so the theory above is supported.

I will be leaving the card in, as it is, until either it malfunctions, or a better solution to extracting the downloads is discovered. It remains to be seen whether the update has any worthwhile features. Here's hoping!

To be honest if it's just Russia and turkey missing then who cares  What would have been good though is if the site actually explained this. I've downloaded the nav pro updates before when I had the gtd and as it was just one file didn't have a problem. I'll have a bash with the one I've got from the 18 part one.

Looks like it should say that download 1 is Western Europe and download 2 is Eastern Europe, which would explain why some countries are in both downloads. Guess that split was done because of the card capacity, but why it isn't mentioned anywhere is a mystery.
