Finally managed to get the update installed. Took absolutely ages all together after having to download the updates twice and needing three attempts to get the car to recognise the software due to some issue with the way files are download on Apple computers. Then despite 100% of the data being copied I got an error message and had to start the update in the car again. Thankfully it worked the second time.

I wasn't even going to bother with the update, it was only because I was in Scotland the other week on a relatively new road and the system thought I was driving through a field! Think I can live with that in future after all this hassle. VW really need to look at how they issue these updates though as it seems such a cumbersome way of doing it.

I've never had any problems and it's reasonably easy to do. Once you've done it once it's a lot easier the next time.

For the record, I also had trouble getting my nav pro system to recognise the files.  I had to download them twice as it so happens one of the files was corrupt the first time it downloaded it. The update process is a little clunky, but light years ahead of some other rival companies.  On my Honda Type-R only 3 years ago I would have had to buy a DVD to put in my Sat Nav drive.  At least the updates for Nav Pro etc, are free and available online.

To be fair I've nothing to compare it to as I've never owned a car with built in satnav before. It doesn't seem logical to have to download 20gb of data (which took 3 hours on 50mb speed) when the updates are probably a fraction of that.
