I just tried to order a 3 door GTI PP was made aware of no keyless, but dealer said Alarm no longer an option as its part of Keyless pack!
I very much doubt that Alarm's are no longer fitted, this would cause a massive uproar and insurance issues.
If it's listed on the standard spec and Alarm should be included on the standard spec performance Golf's.
Think your dealer is mistaken, buy via DTD!

Was it Sheehy's outside of Naas? I went into them one time with my CC because I had an airbag light came on and the wanted to charge me 250 euros to run the diagnostics check even though the car was only just over a year old at the time. They said that the warranty didn't cover it because my car was British reg.

I would find it extremely unlikely that they sell a car without an alarm, my bet is that it's yet another salesman talking sh!t.

This has been common knowledge for a good while now.
No one seems to know the reason either.
I've just got a 5 dr GTI and keyless is brilliant.

Just to rub it in! LOL.

Yes, how cruel.  But.....

Keyless is a revelation!  Sorry but it is.

Not a great miss, pressing a button on the fob to unlock rather than a specific part of the door handle as you pull on it, pushing a button that lasts 5 mins before it lacerates you rather than putting the key in the ignition, and wondering whether it is as secure as the keyed option....£350 saved on an option most Renaults have had as standard for a few years now.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Having only used it for 10 days I would say it's a huge miss!
I wouldn't have thought it would be worth the money they used to charge for it but having now used it and the push button start, I would pay for it if it was an option.

Damien is in Ireland. The alarm is not standard in Irish GTI's.

@Damien I read elsewhere, think it was boards.ie, that one guy badgered his dealer & VW and they agreed to spec the alarm without keyless. So if I were you I'd badger your dealer and ask them to contact VW Ireland about it. VW Irl are actually pretty accommodating that way.

As for keyless - it's brilliant. Wouldn't have a car without it. The naysayers either haven't tried it or were too tight to spec it.

After having it on several cars now I would have to agree with that.

Well said Joe. There are some things that once tried, you can never go back.  Top of my list are :

DSG
Heated seats
Keyless

Regardless of any other option - any car I buy must have these 3 things.

I'd echo that. I wasn't too fussed about having a car with keyless but it was one of my Mrs stipulations. Keyless and heated seats.

After having only used it a few times I'm really impressed with it and would probably pay for it on any future cars.

@monkeyheanger I've seen a few folk saying keyless is less safe than having a key but nobody has backed this up with evidence. You got any references as I'd be interested to read them.

I think I'd have the same top 3 if I think about it! I have the seat heaters on all the time since the day I got it. DSG and keyless used all the time too obviously.

That's the line the people without keyless trot out all the time, lol.

Every car theft I have read about (and there's been quite a few) has been the case where they broke into the house for the keys.  If they have a will to nick your car and can take it without breaking in and traumatising the family, good!
