Anyway, if I had waited, I would never have got the lease deal I did and which I got by the skin of my teeth! It was available for 72 hours only, so I cancelled my previous R order (the car had already been built and was on its way!) with one London Dealer and jumped ship to my Local VW Dealer (West London VW, Inchcape Group) whom I knew well and who had previously provided me superb service when I had a Mk6 GTI.

So, all is well that ends well and as it should be.

Regarding the R420, it is too mad cap for me. The R is fast enough and more than suitable for my purpose.

Sometimes they do include leather as standard when they are running out the last of a mk.  It was included on my current mk6 GTI which I got shortly before they mk7 came in. 

Agree though that you simply can't keep waiting for the next upgrade.  If I was much further down the line with my R order I wouldn't bother with the Tech Pack, but as it's imminent and I'm still very much in unconfirmed build week territory then it's worth doing.

I have a soft spot for the R420 just because it is a bit madcap, but do I want one?  No, not even if it was covered from bumper to bumper in real COW HIDE

That would certainly be a sight for sore eyes. Better to stick with Vienna Vinyl Leather but just on the inside.

Just popped down to my dealer and the Tech Pack was added to my GTI order at £1240. The guy said the dealers only had the bulletin yesterday about it. It was estimated for a week 19 build so will have to wait until Tuesday to see if that has changed.

Just popped down to my dealer and the Tech Pack was added to my GTI order at £1240. The guy said the dealers only had the bulletin yesterday about it. It was estimated for a week 19 build so will have to wait until Tuesday to see if that has changed.

Good news that you've been able to add it to your order and that you've got it at such a bargain price 

Spare a thought for the R people being screwed for another £600 for exactly the same thing

I really do think it is a pricing error (same price to add to a DNS equipped GT/SE), and the R price is correct for GTI/GTD/R. If the GTI/GTD orders get accepted by the factory before they realise their mistake (assuming it is a mistake) then it's their loss, not yours.

Just maybe, it is a genuine price and VW are using it to dampen enthusiasm for R while they can't make them quick enough? That assumes some would pick a GTI/GTD over an R for cheaper options rather than performance.

My unconfirmed build week is 28.

BW28 is perfect. That is 6 weeks after the all important BW22, so if a new option like a Heated Steering Wheel is available, you will be able to spec it as your BW won't be locked. Only gets locked 4 weeks before the confirmed BW.

I think it's a pricing error too.  If it is, surely VW will have to honour that price to anyone who adds it (and has it officially accepted) before it gets corrected, as it has been advertised on the website at that price.  Consumer rights and all that - Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

If it is a mistake, I don't think it will be long before they realise, especially with R-to-be owners asking the question of VW.
