Surprises me people are suggesting trying to get a refund

As I posted after 2,000 miles bottom end + turbo went on mine which cost me £600 with all the bits and mates labour to fit/fix with the belts etc...

Anyway I never even considered taking it back when the smoke came out to be honest if you buy private that's it really sold as seen. If it was a dealer I would suggest otherwise but once you have driven away the seller doesn't have to do anything.

Hope you get it all sorted though! :)

Must say your total cost seems high for just a turbo I got a bottom end, belts, turbo, headgasket, waterpump all oil filters and coolent for about £500 looking around then paid a mate £100 to give a hand fitting and donated my ko3s in need of a rebuilt and its still running sweet 8k miles later

I think £1400 for new turbo with 2yrs warranty and new head set cam and pump and everything else is okay? Considering I'm not mechanically minded, gonna learn hard and fast this week though! I just didn't want to change the turbo and find in a months time that the valve stem seals or head gasket goes cos I wouldn't cope with it all

Ouch bud. I would strongly recommend you ensure the engine mount bolts are replaced as well otherwise they WILL snap.

Also have your oil pickup pipe replaced they commonly block straving the turbo of oil and then the turbo goes might be why yours went.

I had mine done for good measure and i was lucky as it was half blocked.

Both mechanics at this place and one of them is a very good mechanic wants to know the reason why the mount bolts WILL snap? He looked at me when I told him that like if was an idiot, and said he has replaced more than he remembers and never had one snap

if you mark the bolts with a centre punch or spot of tipex you can tighten them to exactly where they were before. just make sure each bolt goes to the same hole it came out of

Have a look in my build thread you will see what happens if the bolts arnt changed.

The bolts are what is known as strecthed bolts and I was told they can only be used once and must be replaced once removed and torqued correctly otherwise they snap in the block.

You have to then have them drilled out of the block and cost me over £700!! I know these machcanics repair cars everyday but they will never have the knowledge that ethuthiasts have on certain models of cars.

For example not all machinics know that cable driven throttle bodys self allign after awhile or that some cars that constantly get the 17705 boost leak error code are known as "ghost codes" and can only be fixed via a map.

Also not many will know what the SAI pump is or what it does.

The bolts cost like £18 from VW personally after what your paying and for the shake of "Just in case" id change them.
