Squeaky suspension

@MonkeyHanger - so you had these mount bearings replaced? And they've been squeak-free since after how many miles?

I'm just hoping that this isn't something I'll need to be getting replaced every few thousand k!

Today I formally rejected my GTI quoting the 1979 Sale of Goods Act (Section 2, sub-section 14) and gave them back my keys.

I dropped the car off at the dealers and handed them a letter.  This has been linked up with VWFS and VAG Customer Services using the Customer Services case number.

Why?  Well its not because the suspension noise is akin to a 10+ year old car with 200k+ miles (its a 63 plate with 5k) nor is it because the dealer screwed me over with a VAG-COM retrofit satnav that didn't work (incompatible with Dynaudio) and that Volkswagen Group have today informed me that, if it had been left in situ, would have  negated part of the vehicle warranty.  Nope, I could have even handled that.  It is, in fact, the complete arrogance of the Volkswagen organisation.  They admit that there is indeed some kind of suspension issue with certain cars (batches)but they are unwilling/unable to provide any target date for root cause analysis or fix; absolutely nothing. They simply expect me (you) to live with it until they have found the answer irrespective of how long that takes.  Moreover, they go to great lengths to tell me that there is no safety risk.  When I asked them how they could honestly guarantee that when they don't know what the problem is and point out just how illogical that position is they just clam up and shrug.

I'm now screwed without the car but it seems that the only way to get their attention is by making such a 'grand stance'. I'm not sure I have their attention.

Did they accept your rejection as in they are now taking steps to get you out of your finance agreement (if you didn't buy outright) and/or reimburse all monies paid so far?

So what's next? What car do you have in mind to replace it?

To be honest I don't know if they have 'accepted' my rejection and I care even less.  I'm pretty sure that legally they don't get to choose.

I really don't know what happens next but I would like a GTI.  Its a great car with a minor problem but is sold by a company that's now got so big it's forgotten how to look after its customers.  What a shame!

My original GTI was rejected a few weeks after purchase. The dealer agreed to replace it and put another on order. It took 6 months to come through due to the waiting list and the dealer have been spot on ever since. Can't fault them to be honest. I'm really pleased with the replacement and has restored my faith in VW.

Got the same issue on the GTD, squeaky/creaky front nearside it's been getting worse, typically the time I went to the dealer and out for a drive with a mechanic it was behaving itself but it's got worse since and will be going back. The car was put on the ramp to check for pucks but nothing

Had my GTI in a few weeks ago for squeaking  on the o/s, they replaced the top suspension mount and the strut. It was fine for a couple of weeks, then returned. It is now noisier than before could possibly be the gaitor positioning mentioned on another thread (There's a TPI no. which I have told the dealer) It's booked in next Tues. Will let you know the outcome then.

Got my GTI back today and the squeak has gone The work was carried out  at Martins of Basinstoke who I found were very efficient and helpful.
The issue was the gaitor (there is a TPI for this but I can't find it again on another thread in this forum, sorry) not been re- fitted correctly, after the top
suspension mount bearing and strut had been replaced at another dealership. Also they omitted to tell me that there were some Puk's left after the PDI

If my suspensions not squeeky after 8,600 miles do we think I'm ok? Getting more and more tempted to lower the car and get a box but scared of the squeeky suspension coming back to haunt me.

I know the box is easy removed but the lowering springs not so much.

Do the box, do the spacers wait for the tpi before you lower it

I'll ask for the TPI when I bring it back next week for them to be replaced (they've had to order them).

Once I get the TPI no. I think I'm going to contact my dealer and book it in for them to look at. All this talk of transport pucks being left in leading to potential damage has go me a little concerned.

Two questions. What is a tpi? I'm guessing it's a recall, and I can go to the dealer with the tpi and they'll do the necessary change?

What do spacers add to the car? Apart from making the wheels stick out of the arches?

Tpi is just a recognised fault with directions how to fix it issued to dealers by ze Germans, and spacers do nothing but only take 10mins to remove if needs be

Update:

Not meant to excite or confuse.

The dealer, who has been very good by the way, has told me that VW HQ Techies have suggested there could be a problem with certain shock absorbers.  Apparently the issue relates to some part (can't be more specific) within he body of the shock which is causing the squeaky rattle.

They are going to fit my car, temporarily, with shocks from a Golf they have on site and then do a test run.  If that fixes the problem then they'll order some new.  The rub is though that if they prove its my shocks that are the problem and they order some new ones, they don'y know if the new ones will have the same problem.
