Yep, they all fit straight on. Only the 16v box uses different clutch

it should have had an aug fitted from the factory but there is a chance its been swapped at some point.

A 3.9 or 4 fd will give you what you need on most of the rod and cable change boxes.
Best mod to make it feel faster imo, and to make a mk3 faster is quite something

I think 1,2,3 on mine at the mo is not to bad its more 4,5 that I'm wanting more speed. I spend most the time on the motorway.

Was reading somewhere else on the net that ATA,AGC,AYL and AYK of the corrado g60 or passat 16v is a good box to use on the abf they also said if you use g60 flywheel will make it feel better due to the flywheel being lighter. Any body else agree with that? Any thoughts Gambit?

If its better cruising economy you're after then:

I had an AUG box on my golf and had an 80 mile round trip to work so swapped out the 5th .89 cog for a .75 5th gear cog from a 4T box. Had the close ratio gears 1st to 4th then an ‘overdrive’ 5th. She used to return 45 mpg regularly on a run at 75 mph.
