What is the best turbo to upgrade to?
« on: 27 November 2013, 21:17 »
Hi I have a 2000 w reg 1.8t with a arz engine code. I'm looking for a bit more power and was wondering about swapping the turbo for a k04. How easy is this? Is it bolt on or is it like everything vw and not that simple. Thanks in advance

depends what you want. how much power and how much money you want to put into it.

if you want a cheep bit more power get a k03s and a map

if you want more then look at hybrids such as k03 with tt225 compressor wheel, will see up to 270 ish with that.

or if your fixed on k04 then look at the k04-025 I think it is that's a direct bolt on, some are bolt on some require different manifolds

K03s and mods or k300 from beach buggy turbos and same relevant mods for 300bhp

K04 is pointless nowadays as the max ever produced from a k04 is 313 bhp but average is 280 - 300bhp but you also have to get a different downpipe and oil/water lines, tip and charge pipe

So k300 ftw!

R-tech custom remap - k04-001- 250bhp/311ftlb

Nar mate i ran 311bhp at R Tech"s rolling road day last month, and I'm having a custom inlet manifold built by good old Bill at Badger5, and a 57mm ABD Racing big bore intake tube fitted at the same time, which will see it well past 313bhp

I'll smash that record if its true !!!

Will put dyno pics up to prove as well

What turbo is the best to upgrade to
Don't wanna spend crazy money to be fair and would like to see 200bhp. Got a front mount intercooler, re circ valve and 4.0 bar fuel pressure reg. Wondering if a re map on the standard turbo would be the best option or upgrade turbo then re map
