Showed my brother in law the car the other day. Said that the car was coded to me, and will only open with my hand. "A bit like James Bond's gun in skyfall"
Had the fob in my pocket, every time I tried obviously it worked. Every time he tried I stood back a little.
Didn't work, and he got increasingly confused as to how it was happening.

Who said keyless entry can't be fun eh?

Nice one...

Yeah, doors are shut properly. I have tried opening and re shutting and this does work, it just defeats the purpose and makes you look a bit daft when you can just use the fob

I think it's just one of those things unfortunately. Thankfully it happens very rarely as if the sensor is not picking up your hand but I've no reason to suspect there is anything wrong with it

Try swiping your finger along the handle slot rather than tapping it - I find that works well.

I found that it works every time as long as you touch the slot  or slide your finger across it

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's impossible to lock the car with the key inside. Haven't tried this yet.

That was either in this thread or elsewhere on the forums. Someone left the key in the boot, and it wouldn't lock. (Warning light on dash appeared)

Correct, you cannot lock the key in the car as the car sensors know it's inside. :) it's a clever system. Search YouTube for a video tour of it.

I can also verify this. Not through deliberate testing, just user stupidity.  The car saved me from a long walk home the other night!

You can't lock car with keys inside.  Tried it and it just wont lock.

Also, a pressure washer will lock the car when you go over the door handle. Pretty sensitive.

Something I will spec if I get a GTD.

Have had it for a couple of years on my current Focus.  You really don't know how good it is until you use a car without it.
Ordered 06/01/14.  5DR GTD DSG, Red. Park Assist | Rear Camera | Keyless entry | Dynaudio | Winter Pack | Pro Nav.

I think I may have solved this. Simply touching the recessed groove doesn't seem to be sufficient - the pad of your thumb or finger has to be in contact with the capacitive surface of the groove. Applying light pressure with my thumb seems to be working now for me.

I'm sure it will lock with one key left inside if you have the other key with you - should you ever have cause to be in such a daft predicament (I have )
