Hi Iainmac, Great news for you. Mine went into transit on the 8/07 and arrived Emden on the 15/07 . Spoke to VW today and was told it was likely to sit in Emden for up to 10 days and not to expect delivery before Mid August. Very disappointing and doesn't seem to fit with your experience. I'm a bit miffed because I have a buyer of my old car champing at the bit.

I'm in exactly the same position as you jrc. Mine went into transit on 7/07 and I was told by my dealer possibly end of July but not to get my hopes up. I have a private purchaser patiently waiting for my car as well and have basically had to bite the bullet and tell them that they can have my car at the end of this month. I didn't think it was fair to keep them waiting any longer. I just hope my car is here no later than the first week in August

I had the same thing when I ordered my Scirocco - I had to sell my Porsche Boxster to a private buyer.

I had no car for 6 weeks and I was cycling everywhere or using hire cars occasionally.  I was seriously fit!

Yup, about 3 days!  Dealer wants 7 days to prep car....does it really take that long?!  Prob be in showroom as it's the first GTD in the North of Scotland. Don't mind a bit though!  Yeah, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the whole allocation and waiting time thing.  Who knows! Prob the transporter coming up North had plenty of space on it!

7 days to prep? Are they taking the piss? They did my dad's car in 3 hours, the day it arrived at the dealership.

Are you sure it hasn't been damaged in transit and they're buying time to repair?
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Found out my car has been sitting in Emden for 12 days. When I called VW they told that all cars are subjected to a full check over before being loaded and that this can take 10 days or more. Seems reasonable but I suspect the delay is more likely due to availability of vessels sailing to UK. Like others I have a buyer lined up and will probably have to bite the bullet and sell.

It does? What are they checking that it requires twice as long as it did to build the thing in the first place?  And do they not check them in the factory and then also at the dealer?  Why another check?  Sounds to me like it is just to make sure there is no damage in transit so they know who to claim from if it arrives at the dealer requiring work.  Thats a 5 minute job... not a 10 day job.

We're looking at a minimum 21 week lead time already we don't need another 2 weeks of pissing around for no reason!

You are assuming no shipping backlog at all in that 10 day time to get the car on the boat (the more plausible reason to me). My dad's GTD got on the 3rd ship passing through Emden to port of Tyne after it's arrival at Emden port from the very quick train that took it from Wolfsburg.

Actually, jrc says 10days to check.

all cars are subjected to a full check over before being loaded and that this can take 10 days or more. Seems reasonable

But yes, it does seem possible they mean 10 days waiting for a ship... but that isn't what they said, so...

The hold up with my car didn't appear to be in Emden but at Tyne where apparently it arrived the middle of last week and didn't arrive at the dealership until today, a week later.

When my dad's car was rushed through it was because the dealership made arrangements to collect the car from the port (given the distance it was not a big deal - 8 miles) rather than VW delivering it to the dealership - that's where the delay probably is, VW happy for it to sit for a good few days before trying to get it moving.
