This all sounds like normal operational procedure for VW.
I went through exactly the same in 2004-5 and 2009-10.

Why don't VW give a f*#k and try to reduce lead times? I'm not talking 6-8 weeks, but 12 weeks from placing order to taking delivery seems reasonable to me.
Why should they give a f**k when people keep going back to them time and again...

Still doesn't make it right though! Not good practice is it.

My car is finally 'in transit', some background to help with timings.

* I placed my order at the end of March - 3 Door, DSG, Onyx White, Key-less, Leather seats (hot, hot) - No changes made after order.

* Build week was confirmed 5 weeks before build.

* The car was meant to be build WK27, but was pushed back to WK28

* Car was in build for around 7 days (I think shutdown rolled into this), Phase 5 build progression was confirmed on Monday (15/07)

* Car was confirmed 'in transit' this morning.

Hope this helps.

My GTD has been in transit since 5th July (nearly two weeks) and as of last thursday the dealer said it was 'released at port of exit', ie waiting for a boat!!

With there being at least one boat every other day to Grimsby I would have thought it may even have landed this side of the water already !!

But then again VW probably have it shipped all the way up to tyne when they only get one boat a week !!!

My GTD came into Port of Tyne earlier this week.  Is there any way of finding out from VW when it is scheduled to go on a transporter?

Nope, but your dealer may be able to get that level of detail from VW UK.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Fantastic Iain. Hope to see plenty of pics!!

Can I ask how long was it between arriving in the UK and being transported to your dealer?

Hi Iainmac, Great news for you. Mine went into transit on the 8/07 and arrived Emden on the 15/07 . Spoke to VW today and was told it was likely to sit in Emden for up to 10 days and not to expect delivery before Mid August. Very disappointing and doesn't seem to fit with your experience. I'm a bit miffed because I have a buyer of my old car champing at the bit.

Yup, about 3 days!  Dealer wants 7 days to prep car....does it really take that long?!  Prob be in showroom as it's the first GTD in the North of Scotland. Don't mind a bit though!  Yeah, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the whole allocation and waiting time thing.  Who knows! Prob the transporter coming up North had plenty of space on it!
