ive said before on another post but,  send the ecu off to bba reman,  make an offer on ebay for 90 quid and they come pick your ecu up, fix it with a life time guarantee and send it back, then you know for sure its fixed and if anything else plays up you know its most likly to just be a sensor.

You can remove just the ecu so brake pipes can stay connected so no need to bleed, just bend them out the way a little

not worth it if a pipe snaps youve got to replace a brake line

It is worth it. You won't break the lines and its nort worth changing the whole pump unless the bolts holding the ecu are rusted and can't be undone. So your recommendation is going to cause the OP more work than is necessary.

Also who's to say, the whole new (second hand) unit won't be broken?

As I said earlier, most units you buy secondhand will probably have a fault on them anyway

Cheers for all your help/advise :afro: i shall remove the ecu i had a look earlier and the bolts aren't to bad shall have to see if fitting the secondhand unit hopefullly solves the fault,if not 'tshirt2k' will most likely be getting a pm  seems like your handy with fixing ecu faults :afro:

ive only red ur post, none of the replies tho. ive had both ur probs when i had anmk3 8v, hand brake light stayed on when brake released, this too happened after getting new rear brake bits fitted , all it was was there was dirt on the hand brake sensor. If ur abs lite isnt lighting up at all its because its been on for agood length of time and the little bulb thing soldered in to the circuit board has burnt out due to been consantly on .
