Boost Gauge Confusion?! Need advise!!
« on: 28 February 2013, 09:32 »
I'm about to install a boost gauge and I have read all the guides and looks easy enough............but.........pardon my ignorance :embarrassed: , why does it T into the fuel pressure regulator? What does that have to do with boost pressure? Wouldn't it make more sense to go on the vac pipe on the DV??

I ain't no mechanic so I'm probably well wrong but wouldn't that mean you could stick a boost gauge on any old car not just a turbo?

That was my first plan but then after reading tons of guides they all say tap into the fuel pressure regulator so now I'm confused?!?!

That is correct, just tee off that pipe as required.

Both of them are vacuum pipes and both go to the inlet manifold so they both have the same pressure in them!! Just if you use the fpr vacuum and you have a leak on it you can end up running lean  :lipsrsealed:
Also off the dv you need shorter pipe!!!

So would you recommend running off the DV then?

Personal preference really, I had it there cos it ran under the bulkhead hidden

Sweet! Think I will just tap off the DV then and maybe move it at a later date. Cheers!

If you have a leak anywhere you plumb the boost gauge into you will run like a bag of poo, not just at the FPR

Cheers for advice! One more thing, i have a smoked face boost gauge so it only shows with the backlight on. Can i still tap into the dimmer light or will it only work when the lights are on?
