Anyway a little update from yesterday!

Seen as soon I will have the car on the road I thought I best get it ready!

I started by dropping the car on its wheels for the first time in about 6 months!

Once it was down I tightened the hub nuts and top mounts.

I then Set about setting the suspension height up, i got the wishbones about level but its not perfect as my drive is t completely level but will do ti I can get it set up on a ramp.

I then set about trying to clean 8 months of dirt and grime off of the car!

A before shot...

After washing but before polish...

Me and Ryan then proceeded to clay bar, polish and wax her!

And this was the end result! Which is pretty good considering it was all done by hand!

Ok bit of a problem  :undecided:

Managed to run the car around the block a couple of times to try make sure it was running ok for the mot.
Majority seemed ok
Car is driving nicely but.....

I warmed the car up before I ran it around and after the 4th time around the block the car started plopping of masses of white smoke!!

I slowly got it home and gave it a little rev at the bottom of the drive and another big ploom came out!
I got out a have it a sniff and it smells abit like fuel

I don't think it's the head gasket as it seemed one before I fitted all the engine mods and it is white and doesn't smell like oil so in disregarding them.
I managed to do a very small log and the afr on acceleration was around 11-12
But when I let off the acceleraor lambda reading shot up to about 1.9 Witch equals around 24:1! Is this right?

I'm think/hoping its just over fueling but don't hve a clue why as all the same mods off my old car are on this one.
I know all engines are different but could it make that much difference??

Cheers for any help lads

Start with basics - compression check, then possibly check the injector spray patterns to make sure there's not one locked open or anything stupid.

Could the turbo seals have started leaking? Possible wallop on the shaft somewhere along the line?

Was everything up to temp, or still cold?  Certainly going to struggle with MOT if it's issuing smoke  :undecided:.

Will be looking Into ASAP
Plan was to try a compression check to start with.
How would i go about checking the injectors?
Jut remove and turn the car over?

I don't think it could be turbo related as its only 16 month old and is a genuine Borgwarner unit. And it seemed to spin nicely when It was out.

Car was warned up as I had it running to bleed the power steering and while I set the laptop up.
Not to worries about mot as I have a friend ha
But I'm more worries about some sort of damage or causing a accident everytime it puffs a cloud of smoke out!

Could be valve stem oil seals or turbo. Usually white smoke for oil and blue/black for fuel.

Hoping its not the turbo as its only 16 month old  :undecided:

I've had the car running again and it seems the smoke is a little more blue then i first thought

Managed to get a few videos and upload them to youtube.

First video shows the engine running with the coolant about 60 degrees so not completely cold, the smell is quite strange but i cant decided wether it smells like fuel or oily

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2xrMtyYkWU&feature=c4-overview&list=UUB6MCVgSFOdqE7CX7jeGzRA

Second video shows the lambda on vcds. does it look about right?

http://youtu.be/Xs3pA_xZh50

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs3pA_xZh50&feature=c4-overview&list=UUB6MCVgSFOdqE7CX7jeGzRA

third video again shows lambda but also the coilpacks as i was thinking it was maybe not completely burning the fuel although NO misfires were detected

http://youtu.be/H2pjzlfqzSg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2pjzlfqzSg&feature=c4-overview&list=UUB6MCVgSFOdqE7CX7jeGzRA

I also noticed that after doing all these little tests there was quite abit of liquid inside of the exhaust.

I will do a compression test when i have a day off work at with my dad.

i had a little more spare time so decided to do a couple of small mods

I decided i wanted to have the wheel sit slightly closer to me so i needed a spacer and though it was a good excuse to get one of these!

A B&G quick release wheel hub

And fitted

Also got around to polybushing my ths engine mounts which involed cutting away as much of the old softer poly to replace with the harder poly i purchased

And finished

Also what is peoples opinions on wheel tape??

Yes or No?

Cheers for any help lads!

Sorry bud, that says turbo seals to me.

Is there anything on that engine that could be loose and allowing oil to leak?

Is the tick-over lumpy?

Is the smoke worse on start-up?  If yes then it *could* be valve stem seals, but I think that's unlikely because that sort of smoke normally clears pretty quickly after start-up.

Ok this mornin i got around to testing the compression and also the coolant system.

Compression was ok with three cylinders at 135 psi and one at 145 psi

The coolant system also held pressure which has ruled out both the headgasket and the rings.

Also my dad id borrowing the chem tester from work to test the coolant for gasses tomorrow morning

I noticed that when i removed the spark plug out of cylinder three there was a little blue gas coming out of the hole

After i had put it all back to get i started it and there wasn't really much smoke.

I drove it around the block again and after about three times around and giving it a little it started plooming smoke again mainly when i give it some and then let off at a junction and then when i accelerate it smokes quite a bit.

i then go it back down the drive and it was smoking a little

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrADC3ttJ3g

i'm thinking it might be the valve stem seals and hopefully not the turbo as i bought it new not too long ago.

i then had to go out to my brother to help him fit some windows but when i got back i decided to order some mats i had bought due to getting into the car twice when it was raining last week and the floor being a complete mess and slippy when it was wet some im thinking mats for road driving and some drip tape underneath for track

Ok small update but sadly no pictures

i removed my tip and found small amounts of oil inside the turbo which i believe may be normal?? but no side to side movement in the shaft so im asuming its not the turbo??

i also fitted a sunstrip i bought off of ebay but have found its a bit small so i may need to get another one!

Done alot of tidying in the garage as its a pure mess but also spent a while fitting the some coilovers onto ryans car

Don't know the next step really, im going to see how bad it is and if its liveable im going to try hang on for a few weeks while i rebuild my spare engine and hopefully that will sort the problem if not i will have to order some gaskets and a valve tool so i can remove the head and replace the valve stems!

Another update with good and bad news!!

The car is now MOT'd, taxed and on the road!

just trying to solve a few little niggles, the car was misfiring under boost which then turned into a constant misfire, found to be a faulty coilpack....

i had a spare so that is on for the moment while i ring up vw  to see if it is under recall.

the car is still smoking but only seems to do it if i put my toe down and then when i slow and set off again it puffs out a big cloud...

i also think i may have a dodgy lambda or the conversion isn't working properly... im getting a lambda reading and the lambda control is moving but normally in the - down to about -25 (and i have to note the lambda doesn't seem to read or move for the first minute of start up

one of the things that is confusing me is both adaption blocks for the lambda are reading 0%. i read somewhere that this means the sensor is bad??

and last but not least it seems the standard clutch doesnt seem to like 310 lbft as it has started slipping under load after only a few miles of driving so it looks like i will be having the box off this weekend and fitting the vr6 unit i had fitted to the old car.

All good fun!!
