what was everyones first vw and was is this car that was responsible for your love of vws now?

my first vw was a mk1 golf 1.5GX and I only got it to annoy my then boyfriend because he wasnt old enough to drive but loved them and I had just got my license so thought I would see what all the fuss was about.
I have to say for me it was love at first sight and I really did love that car. I took it to college where everyone else was driving corsas, saxos and fiestas but my little golf in my eyes was the nuts!

Here she is...

Unfortunately the car set on fire :-( dodgy wiring was to blame. It wasnt that bad but as the fire brigade pushed the car onto my driveway for me they scraped it past the gate and unfortunately the whole wheel arch pretty much crumbled off!
I did get the car re-wired but after that it was never the same and it stunk of burning. It was scrapped by the person that bought it off me after the MOT ran out

After that i knew I would always have vws and have gone on to have about 13 mk1 golfs, mk2s, mk3s, polos and a seat cordoba!

Hi there OMG!!!  I was just looking through goggle images for a GX and put in my old number plate and it came up with your picture of my old golf. I owned this car for a few years. Loved her so much. Is it true she really has been scrapped??.  So sad. When was that exactly. I lived in Margate at the time and used to drive her to Ramsgate and back and forward to college all the time. I'm now trying to buy another one.
It would be great to know who you got her off etc etc.
My email at home is jaybee_barrow@yahoo.co.uk or kenny.barrow@dialaflight.co.uk at work.  It would be great to speak to you.

Cheers

John

I also had a standard green 5-door mk1, 1.5 carb engine, used to race my mates in their mk1 drivers!!! Bought it for £450, sold it when i went travelling and the mate i sold it to wrote it off on a roundabout outside work, about 20m from where i'm sitting now, and i went and visited it in the scrapyard!!!

My first VW a a mk5 Golf GTTDI. I was a late starter, passed my driving test at 25 so didn't get into the whole car scene at that time. A couple of years after the mk5, I was getting a bit bored in work, so bought a Mk3 8v on a whim for a couple of hundred quid. It had a couple of small problems, so googled them and this site came up!  Been here ever since, and I decided to go to a few meets. Thats where I really PROPERLY first loved a car! Corrado.  It was following me all the way from Plymouth to Exeter, and I just couldn't peel my eyes away from the rear view mirror!
On my second now, this time in VR6 flavour. (First was a 1.8 valver).
Classic Green Corrado VR6 Storm | Jetex Cat back | BMC CDA | VT mounts | Bilstein B12 | 288mm front brakes | Mk4 rear brakes | Goodridge braided hoses | BBS RX228s | Shortshifter | Lupo wipers | Uprated headlight loom | All red rears | Refreshed leather | Fresh paint |

My 1st vw was a 1986 'C' 1.3 Golf C when I was 16, bought it off my work when took it in for px on a Proton Wira lol. Cost me £225. 2nd was a '84 'A' Golf CL which I bought for spare!! MISTAKE LOL

then i had a sabbatical for a few years until my new(at the time, wife now) girlfriend bought me a MK5 GT TDI in laser blue, in 2010! Which I absolutely love!!

Now I've bought myself a little project, a MK4 GTi, it's in 1.8 n/a form, and needs a bit of work to bring it back upto a decent standard lol
