VR6 Conversion, Is it going to be worth it??
« on: 19 August 2012, 22:46 »
Ive got a early (K-Reg) 86k mile 8v 5 door mk3 and its VERY clean, Its close, well not too far away from being perfect

Being a 8v its not the quickest, and Ive always loved my mate VR6, Im thinking of getting a VR6 lump put in mine but I have a few questions (sorry if they've been asked before)

1. what sort of cost is involved?
2. As mine is SO clean should I just leave it as is
3. Sell it and buy a VR6? (dont really want to sell because it is so clean)

Thanks

go on do it mate

The cost would be, donor car, cost of service items, cost of someone willing to remove 2 engines, do some wiring and make it look factory

it wouldnt be that hard because you would have a donor sat there, and they are both mk3s, id do do the swap for you mate

Vr6 are not quick anyway. Only on motorway. Too heavy at front too much on fuel thats why they cost pence to buy.

theres a lot more to it then taking one engine out and putting another one in

dont build what you can already buy for a fraction of the cost

Easier to buy a VR if thats what you want.Easier to go for a 20vt conversion imho if you really want to keep the car you already have.

It is a very easy conversion to do even more so with a donor car but being honest I doubt it is worth it in the long run.

As already said buy a vr6 or fit 20v turbo!

I have a vr6 and only have it for the engine noise
